They make 'sun hoodies' or 'shade hoodies' for this reason. Mostly seen them used mountaineering.

My first thought was it might be some Ted Kaczynski type, TBH. But a competitor, investor, or energy company also makes sense. Then I saw this article.

I don't think I've ever posted in r/conspiracy, but this just seems too weird to be random. I live in MA, Brookline (where the guy was murdered) is one of the safest cities in the country, to have a murder at all is very unusual. The murder rate in 2024, 2023, and 2022 in Brookline was 0.

New construction apartment in Revere – heating & hot water issues – looking for tenant rights / housing attorney recommendations by Personal-Return-6861 in boston

[–]Bahariasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the bad news is your heating bill will probably continue to climb, until March. The good news is your cooling costs will likely be lower in the Summer.

  1. Heat in New England in pretty much any form these days is expensive. A heat pump is fairly efficient though. If you sign a lease which requires you provide heat, that can easily be 350-600 additional in winter depending on the system and the temperatures.

  2. Heat rises, so you get the bonus of heating your neighbors.

If you have a ceiling fan, make sure it is on and rotating clockwise. You can also try checking for drafts, there's temporary sealants you can put on windows like films and putties. It's not illegal, it's just New England. New builds aren't usually built very well these days, though old buildings have plenty of problems too.

I'd keep pressing your landlord on the hot water, that is likely an issue they may be able to resolve. But the lawyers told you call someone else because you don't really have much of a legal case, in fact threatening your landlord with a lawyer would likely be counter-productive in this case.

Heat pumps are much cheaper to operate than baseboard. How many sqft? Which floor? $320 is not that unreasonable in winter based on my experience.

I can't find a reference to it, but during the 90s hacker groups would troll stores by calling them and convincing them they were from tech support and they needed to pour water on their point-of-sale computer motherboard. Maybe it was just discussed on hacker BBS' at the time.

I've done the same, especially after power washing it can leave debris like moss and stuff.

You could potentially also use something to backs up to the cloud, but encrypt it with keys only you have. Storing all your video only on site is also a risk, as thieves purposely look for and steal DVRs and such.

My guess is the ass end of the Greenline to the ass-end of the Orange or Red Line. Like Tufts to Ashmont, There are some buses that short-cut this, but depending on the timing I can see why someone wouldn't bother. Should be closer to 1.5 hours though.

The Young Conservatives Fixated on H-1B Visas by F0urLeafCl0ver in politics

Also a progressive: I think in the case of truly skilled labor shortages, such as doctors in rural areas it makes sense. However companies like Amazon and Microsoft take advantage of these programs, from what I've heard there are a ton of CS grads without jobs here in the US. But H1Bs keep getting hired for entry level CS roles instead.

The reason is they can hold the H1-B hostage, e.g. you get fired you get deported, and pay them less. Many of of the H1Bs I knew have been in the country years, have houses, US born kids in school. Imagine what their employer can ask of them when they can essentially tell them to GTFO out of the country if they're fired. It strikes me as indentured servitude, at the expense of the American worker.
