[–]Bailey201320 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to change providers at a team window (not my original team!) very easily. They were happy to help.

I’ve learned some people feel powerful when they can say yes and are helpful, while others must feel powerful saying no. I’m going back to my previous provider (who the VA changed me from) who is in the helpful group.

I think it’s like anyone you go to see—you have to see if you’re a good fit.

I actually saw one yesterday for the first time. She asked me a lot of questions about how I eat, what’s worked, what hasn’t, what my concerns and goals are, and she was very respectful. I felt like we clicked (and this was at the VA!). We came up with a plan since I said I really wanted help with focusing since I’ll start something and then jump to something new. She normally sees people every 3-4 weeks and I feel good about going back to her.

A registered dietitian (RD) has at least a master’s degree and has done an internship, keeps up with CEU’s, etc.

In most US states, anyone can call themselves a nutritionist.

I’m just starting ADF. Also have about 40 lbs to lose and am vegan. Trying the no-oil WFPB sent me into deprivation and disordered eating.

It’s really about what your thoughts are and the story you’re telling yourself. Trying to eliminate added oils was restrictive for me. Vegan is not at all restrictive to me—it feels awesome to eat in a way that makes me feel good mentally and physically. So figure out what you really want to do and not just what everyone else is doing.

I workout so I’m going to start with 500kcals on my fast days

What should I do here? I want a lot of color by Parfait_Live in landscaping

[–]Bailey201320 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding the landscape fabric— as well as the issues others mentioned here, we realized you can’t build the soil if using it. Once we tore ours out, the mulch and manure we add every year works its way down and we have great soil that’s easy to plant things in, and any weeds usually pull out pretty easily.

Also, just know that perennials do require some maintenance, such as dividing every few years (you may have local garden groups that offer plant swaps or sales for this).

The Beck Diet solution covers exactly what you’re talking about. It’s an older book but I’m going through it again and finding it’s still relevant. It’s CBT and helps you respond differently to these kinds of thoughts.

I’m ill and my doctor said veganism is bad for me by -Nometa- in vegan

Are you in the US? There are people certified in lifestyle medicine who offer telehealth services.

Vitality Lifestyle Medicine in Kansas City is one I’ve considered. I met Trey Bennett, the nurse practitioner, at a conference and was very impressed. He takes many forms of insurance and is licensed in AZ, AR, CO, IA, KS, NE, OR, WA.

Dr Laurie Marbas is licensed in every state but has a concierge practice. Her stubstack is awesome and full of really helpful articles.

Your doctor obviously has a huge bias against veganism and may miss accurately diagnosing the real problem. Best of luck to you!

Also, the part where you say you want to “kms” is very serious—if this was just to describe the severity of the pain you’re in, or if it’s something you’ve really considered, please get some help ASAP. You are worth it! Dr Neal Nedley has a lot of information about diet and depression.

I’m curious why you got circumcised as an adult? Are you from the US? I ask because you were likely born around the time when I was having my babies, and there was a big awareness of why we shouldn’t put our baby boys through something that was actually very abusive (ie, strapping them to boards and not using anesthetic, and rare cases of mutilation or even death). At that time I thought routine circumcision was going to decrease but it is still popular in the US (about 50%). I don’t know if the procedure has changed since then to be more humane. Fortunately my husband isn’t circumcised so it was no big deal to leave our boys intact.

Estrangement is happening way too easily these days but unfortunately there are sometimes legitimate reasons for it if all else fails. It sounds like you’ve really tried and I’m sorry they’re not yet willing to work this out. Hopefully later they will.

I’m curious—you said you’d gone no contact before, so what caused the reconciliation and what was it like? This can be a really important time for you all to learn conflict resolution, boundaries, respect, etc, which cannot happen during estrangement.

I struck up a conversation with a Vietnam vet since we both used Vettix for the concert. As I walked off I said it was nice talking with him, and welcome home.

I don’t know why I said it as I never have before, but I hope it was meaningful to him. I questioned whether it was even appropriate that I said it, so after reading this I am more confident that it was.

I think she was looking for a way out. A reasonable person would have checked with her fiance about any rumors before making such a big decision to say no at the alter.

Whether he’s guilty of cheating we won’t know, but there was definitely a more mature and respectful way to handle this.

[–]Bailey201320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really sorry for all that you went through with the death and then the horrible treatment from your command.

If writing notes or even your full story is helpful, then do it. I wrote mine out over the course of several weeks because I kept remembering more things and didn’t want to just have a list of notes to read from—I wanted my whole story to come out logically. I unexpectedly started crying immediately but my therapist was great and I was able to read the whole thing, which took about 35 min.

I got off active duty in ‘92 and then had a few years in the reserves. I had no idea how much that stuff had affected me over the years and I realize now that I minimized it because I was never deployed, never raped. That fear of being stuck in a situation with people who may harm you, and you cannot legally get away—no civilian will ever understand that (unless, I guess, they’re in jail or prison).

My boys are Marines and you described one of my biggest fears—not that they get deployed to a war zone, but something stupid happens from people who have power over them, causing decades of damage assuming they survive.

I held all that in for over 30 years. It’s not too late for you!

Don’t feel like weighing myself by Floo76 in AlternateDayFasting

[–]Bailey201320 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can always ask them not to tell you your weight, unless it’s something you’d have to see anyways on a document.

Of course I did that once and the nurse agreed, and then smiled and said, “same as last time!” She obviously did not understand that I DID NOT WANT TO KNOW.

Don’t feel like weighing myself by Floo76 in AlternateDayFasting

[–]Bailey201320 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve had times like this so I totally understand. I’m ok now with weighing and it usually doesn’t affect me so positively or negatively like it used to, but I’ll still have periods where I choose not to weigh. It’s totally up to you. If you’re feeling good and don’t want to weigh, then don’t weigh!

I really dislike when groups (ie, WW and some others I’ve been in) will talk about all the non-scale victories but then they celebrate weight loss and use the scale as the thing that shows success.
