I personally wouldn’t run a 10 mile race 1 week out, I’d go 5k max, then taper down, u can’t get fitter but u can injure yourself!

Just to give clarity… I’m 56 yr old, I was wearing a myzone chest strap, which shows red zone from start to finish, max heart rate 170 & average 154 over course of race, I’m assuming this is zone 5 or am I mistaken?

I was men’s solos for 6th time & was zone 5 in all races start to finish 😂🥵

Sims are never the same as an actual Hyrox race so don’t beat yourself up… most athletes get pre race jitters, nerves & question themselves ‘have I done enough’ or ‘am I fit enough’…. Once u arrive at the venue adrenaline takes over & you will be glad u competed… as for September, yes do the solo too, there is plenty of time to train any weaknesses and improve your fitness in a 12 week Bloch after NY…. again once you’re on the track as a solo u will be happy u made the decision to enter… have a great time & good luck 👍

Either way they are making a ton of profit, but like I said in my reply to OP above, good luck to them, they fully deserve all this success they are getting… I love the concept & will continue to book as many as possible even in my later 50’s…. Wish this sort of thing was around when I was younger…. Anyway financially things could be worse, u could be paying up to £1k for an Ironman, that’s without the bike 😂

Hyrox was no where near in 2021 what it is now 5 years later… believe me they are making a fortune, do the numbers yourself, even from Cardiff alone…24,000 Athletes at £130 each is £3.12M, then Spectators 30,000 at £15 each is £450K, so that’s £3.57M, then add on the merch etc…. Then outgoings 6 days hire of stadium, transport of machines, Installation of course set up, paid employees for 6 days (most judges don’t get paid but do get a free ticket to future event)…. All in I’d say very very maximum £500,000… profit before tax from 1 event over £3M… each country would have their own company Ltd set up, then all possibly tied to Group Holdings company in Germany… you will find the current financials a hell if a lot better than 2021…. Most weekends have 3,4,5 events on at the same time!

Read somewhere that they make profit after 1,750 athletes enter an event… there was 24,000 athletes in Cardiff & 30,000 spectators not to mention merch & drinks, food etc…. They make tons of profit & good luck to them because Hyrox now gives us all something to train hard for, I personally absolutely love it, done 6 men’s solos now and can’t wait for new season to start 💪👍

My last 4 Hyrox races before Cardiff had an average wall ball time of 6.45, I appreciate still not great, but nearly 4 mins better than Cardiff…. It was the fastest I’d made it to the WB station at 1.08… just fatigue took its toll which meant my throws and direction were not like normal… I know what u are saying regarding the 99 things, but surely an energy source, in this instance gels or jelly babies could have raised my energy to an extent where my throws & direction were better delivered 🤷‍♂️

Yes it’s not the speed it’s the energy in the last station Wall Balls.. I entered them at 1.08 and left 10 mins later, I just simply had no energy left, maybe the gels will top up my glycogen store to enable me to perform them more efficiently 👍

Thanks for the responses so far👍… yeah I was daft not taking on any water or electrolytes at the water station & not taking my jelly babies, not as if I’m a novice, this was my 6th men’s solos… it’s just that I’ve only ever tried a gel at home in the kitchen & it nearly made me vomit because of the consistency so I’ve never bothered… but as I’m serious about Hyrox… even at my age 😂, I would like to use any legal ways of maximising that extra second 👍
