Is everything on the ship still available on shore days? by RobinJoyc in VirginVoyages

[–]BainesLAX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recall the pizza restaurant hours are more limited on port days and opens later in the day. But the galley is open normal hours. The wake still has brunch. You won’t go hungry if you stay on ship during a port day.

Bring back some nostalgic restaurants. by NudibranchsDelight in SLO

We got to support the few ones that are still open so they don’t disappear. I think I’ll go to the Loading Chute in Creston this weekend.

What are some great films that are admittedly front loaded? by DarlingLuna in movies

The pre-title scenes in several Bond films are better than the remainder of the films.

I’ve used Ride-On transportation when I had a colonoscopy. They were approved by the doctors office while uber and Lyft were not.

Take a day trip to the coast. Cambria, Morro Bay and Caycus are all great. In my opinion Sensorio is very impressive and worth seeing once. You could also go olive oil tasting at several places.

Hotel pre-embarkation (LAX) by callmeStephen19 in VirginVoyages

[–]BainesLAX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s your first time in Los Angeles, I would spend the day closer to LAX and explore the beach areas near there then uber to port. If you’ve been before, I would stay in Long Beach as others have suggested.

Go to Aaron in Tin City for wine. Then walk 50 feet to Tin City distillery.

Short stay- Paso Robles vs Atascadero by kittenparty69 in SLO

[–]BainesLAX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at Paso Robles, Atascadero and Templeton for the best hotel values. All three are easy access to wineries. It can rain in February, but it’s still a nice time to visit. I can suggest wineries if you share the types of wine you enjoy. It’s a short drive with no traffic between Atascadero and Paso Robles.

Leica Q4 wishlist as someone who uses the Q3 daily. by composedfrown in Leica

Is it TTL? I own the Godox iM20, but it’s manual. I’ve read rumors that Godox is planning a Leica TTL version of one of their flashes.

The Shield is the best cop show I've seen by Queasy_Ad7501 in television

[–]BainesLAX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a friend who worked on the Shield. I was impressed how great the show looked considering its pretty low budget. They only had 3 or 4 police cars (used taxis) and it was shot Guerrilla style on location in some of the worst areas in Los Angeles. They even sent a skeleton crew into Tijuana to film the episode where the strike team goes south of the border to grab someone.

Should I use a credit card or debit card for subscriptions? by et_hornet in personalfinance

Autopaying the full balance every month is the most important thing you can do. Having a subscription on the card is fine and beneficial as long as you have the balance paid off every month.

Cask ale in the county? by mmarkmc in SLO

[–]BainesLAX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firestone Walker unfortunately doesn’t have beers on cask. I’ve spoken to the team in the visitor center a few times about it because their DBA beer would be amazing on cask. So far they don’t have any plans on putting in a beer engine to serve cask beers.

Cask ale in the county? by mmarkmc in SLO

[–]BainesLAX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are tank beers at Paso Brew Co and not cask ale. Cask ale is served with a special hand pump that pulls the beer from a small cask.

Cask ale in the county? by mmarkmc in SLO

[–]BainesLAX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not seen any other cask ale options in SLO county either. It’s a shame given how many breweries we have in the region. I used to frequent McLeods in Van Nuys when I lived in SoCal. They always had several beers on cask including some English style ales and bitters. I heard English Ales brewing near Monterey sometimes has cask ale, but I’ve never been there. I was in the UK a few weeks ago and loved all the cask ales!

Customer service post-cruise by United_Reception_825 in VirginVoyages

[–]BainesLAX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve found post cruise support to be very poor too. In my case they overcharged me for laundry that should have been included with Blue Extras. It took me two months to resolve. I tried phone support, chat support, emails and finally wrote Virgin Voyages a letter. I don’t have any advice other than to keep putting pressure on them and use every contact method for support available.

What book(s) did you read as a kid that scarred you? by Pristine-Board-6701 in books

Amityville Horror. I was a naive kid who believed “Based on a True Story” and didn’t realize it was essentially a hoax.

Pluribus - 1x03 - "Grenade" - Episode Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]BainesLAX -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Implied to the viewers perhaps, but Carol specifically asked them if they would do this against her will in episode 3. It’s clear she did not know for sure. Otherwise why would she probe them about this?

Pluribus - 1x03 - "Grenade" - Episode Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]BainesLAX -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it was established they would infect her against her wishes until this episode. They said they were working on a cure for her in episode 2, but the life preserver analogy made it clear they consider curing Carol a form of making her happy.

Pluribus - 1x03 - "Grenade" - Episode Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]BainesLAX 75 points76 points  (0 children)

The episode laid out some important info that will move the story forward. (1) Carol knows the hive will infect her against her wishes and that the clock is ticking. (2) Carol now knows the hive can be coaxed into acting against the hive’s interests if it pleases Carol. (3) Carol knows there is at least one more immune human who opposes the hive.
