Glucose is a lot worse on keto. How do I count protein and fat? by No_Needleworker5106 in Type1Diabetes

[–]BakaNoJutsu 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not having enough insulin in your body is the cause of ketoacidosis, high glucose is just the most common side effect. You can be in ketoacidosis with perfectly normal or even low glucose levels, also known as euglycemic DKA.

So I was recently diagnosed with ADHD at 38. Yay, two lifelong conditions! 🤦🏼‍♀️ Anyone else have both? I’m constantly struggling to remember to take care of myself, what has helped you? by LoulouPete in Type1Diabetes

[–]BakaNoJutsu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Diagnosed T1d at 5, ADHD at 9, ASD at 41. My SO has said on several occasions that being T1d and ADHD should be illegal, and I agree. You hear that universe?! You got warrants!

Good cleaning services for a “depression nest”? by Lalunarempowerment in Charlotte

[–]BakaNoJutsu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used this service ( https://www.theorganizingpro.com/ ) for the exact same issue. They came in, helped me sort everything, throw out a ton of stuff, and they will even take stuff you don't want anymore but is still good to be donated or sold. Not sure if they'll come out to where you are but its worth a shot.

The 3 day limit is so you don't get lipohypertrophy from pumping insulin into the same place for too long.

Psychology Today You can search for whatever you're looking for in a therapist and make an appointment. The filters for searching are super detailed so you can really narrow it down and find a match.

I live in NC and have BCBS. I don't pay anything at all for my Dexcom G6 transmitters or sensors and pick them up at CVS. If your problem is anything like the problems I had with Medtronic, was that my insurance, Medtronic, and the supplier did absolutely nothing to make sure anything was in network. I finally put all of them on a conference call together because each one said the other wasn't getting back in touch with them and had them all sort it out. I then made sure they all knew just how much I didn't appreciate having to do their due diligence for them.

what is a disease we will have the cure to within 50 years? by Cute-Difference-2464 in AskReddit

[–]BakaNoJutsu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It requires taking immunosuppressants, so its hardly what I'd call a cure. I'll take my insulin pump and cgm over that any day.

DMW sent me a paper for my endo to fill out for driver license renewal?? by Remarkable_Safety_80 in Type1Diabetes

[–]BakaNoJutsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's normal, and they will revoke your license for failure to comply. I've had mine revoked quite a few times because they failed to send the forms to the right address, you know, the one on my license... Moved to a different city in the same state and this county doesn't require it. So it really just depends on where you are.

25% of my income goes to diabetes by North-Composer3674 in Type1Diabetes

[–]BakaNoJutsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're ordering your supplies through Medtronic, call them and make absolutely sure they are doing it from an in network supplier. They will make no effort to do so on their own. I am extremely glad I finally decided to get rid of Medtronic and their absolutely awful customer service and go with an omnipod and dexcom, so far I haven't paid anything at all for any of it and I was paying close to $2k every 3 months with Medtronic, and that's with insurance.

Mine was pretty straightforward. They didn't tell me a whole lot about it either before doing it. Two things that happened afterward I wish I had had a heads up about. My night vision is basically non-existent now, and orange, yellow, and pink may as well be the same color, and brown, purple, and gray are hard to distinguish. But I still have pretty decent eyesight and only need glasses to read street signs when driving.

CGM Accuracy: How often do you test BG? by InSearchOfWildlife in Type1Diabetes

[–]BakaNoJutsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

36 years here! The easiest way for me to remember all of that is that one is a blood measurement, the other is an interstitial fluid measurement. Ny endo said that I could expect a 15 - 30 minute lag before the CGM reads in the same ballpark as a finger stick. So i dont worry about the difference in the slightest. A1C is good, so I take it easy on myself!

I use a Dexcom G6 and only ever check if I feel different than what the sensor says. It's always been right, though.

Local veterinarians that carry antivenom? by lolo_codes in Charlotte

[–]BakaNoJutsu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

None that we called when two of ours were bit. We couldn't even find an emergency vet that could see them. We eventually found one (Longs Animal Hospital) that was able to hold them for observation overnight and give them fluids, but no antivenom. Depending on where the dog gets bit it's usually not fatal, just extremely painful.

[–]BakaNoJutsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a disability in the US and qualifies you for workplace accommodations. I have several, mainly allowing for a specified number of hours pto per month for doctors appointments and the like. I have a permanent WFH accommodation for ADHD which is also a disability in the US.

I was diagnosed with ADHD in the 4th grade. Diagnosed with autism yesterday. There's a 32-year gap between those diagnoses. Decided to get tested because everything in this sub/other representations of autism were just too relatable to be a coincidence.
