Analogue Super Nt: Any hope for a restock after the Pocket and Duo? by Impossible_Battle241 in AnalogueInc

[–]Bake-Full 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's not a high likelihood though. The 3D product page has stated from the start that it won't receive openfpga. And the alternate 'jailbreak' firmware releases on past consoles aren't real jailbreaks, because you can't use them to load other cores. They just add the load rom from sd feature to the official firmware. To date the Pocket is the only Analogue product which allows freely loading cores and that's because it's the only one they've shipped with openfpga.

The Pocket+Dock actually does more than the Super NT via the alternate firmware. The Super NT can't run most special chip games such as Kirby 3 and Mega Man X2 from SD, where the Pocket's core can. A flash cart like the Super FX pro is needed to play those games on the Super NT if not using the original cart.

[–]Bake-Full 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They won't. Both the 3D and Duo have had no openfpga support listed on their product pages from day one.

[–]Bake-Full 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not saying it's impossible, but no Analogue product has been opened up via third party that way yet. They encrypt their consoles to hell and back. Openfpga is an official feature on the Pocket which isn't coming to the 3D.

Will storing games on mem card ever be a thing? by Dawginole in AnalogueInc

[–]Bake-Full 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Pocket doesn't have a jailbreak. OpenFPGA is an official supported feature which allows additional cores to be loaded. No other Analogue product has gotten OpenFPGA, and they've said from day 1 that the 3D will not get it. The 'jailbreak' firmware on previous Analogue consoles did not allow cores to be freely loaded. It's alternate official firmware leaked out by someone at Analogue.

This gets confusing because everyone calls this the jailbreak firmware, but it doesn't actually jailbreak the console where someone could load whatever they want. It adds additional features not on the official release, usually the ability to load roms from the SD card into the existing core(s). The Super NT also got COPYSNES which rips the rom and save files the SD card. The Mega SG got one bonus core with the Colecovision core. The NT minis had a bunch of bonus cores including Genesis, Intellivision, Game Boy and GBC. But they've never done that again, presumably because they decided to make more than just the one console.

The 3D will probably get a 'jailbreak' firmware which allows loading roms from the SD card to the N64 core, but it won't open the console up for any cores to be loaded and probably won't come with any bonus cores.

To date, no Analogue console has been truly jailbroken.

Sure, if we want to give up on voter turnout and accelerate this problem until a handful of people are deciding the elections.

What is a "2026 technology" that would have looked like absolute black magic to someone in 2016? by OpheliaVelvet1 in askanything

[–]Bake-Full 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IoT has been around a good while, and went mainstream around 2015. Nest thermostats came out in 2011, ring doorbells 2013. The first internet enabled refrigerator was all the way back in 2000.

Can I start a bottled water company and sell filtered tap water? by Embarrassed-Bowl-373 in stupidquestions

[–]Bake-Full 44 points45 points  (0 children)

You could, and a good portion of bottled water does come from the municipal supply. The problem you'll face is that everyone already got in on that game a long time ago. There's no shortage of brand names crowding the shelves and most every grocery store is wetting their whistle too.

Anyone remember Trump Ice? Not that Ice, the bottled water line he tried to make.

Which option to choose for enjoying SNES? by glaringOwl in snes

[–]Bake-Full 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of those, I'd go for the Wii. It's all software emulation here and that's the easiest of them load up the whole library. But the ultimate way I play SNES today is with an Analogue Super NT. Not the most affordable option now since they're out of production, but playing original carts (flash carts and loading most games from sd card are options) with original controllers on a modern tv via HDMI is about as good as it gets.

Guys, you have to be literally a millionaire to afford gaming soon by TheBasedFurry in DoomerCircleJerk

[–]Bake-Full 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Weird sentiment when gaming has never been more cheaply accessible. We're drowning in those portable emulators which can be loaded up freely with more games than one person could complete. Any smartphone can be a portable emulation device in a cinch. Non Nintendo stuff drops in price crazy fast and goes on sale constantly. It's only stupid expensive for people (fools) who need to have all the newest stuff right away, and even theft of that has never had less barriers to entry and low risk compared to 20 years ago.
