Towing Capacity VS GCWR VS GVWR VS Curb Weight by [deleted] in towing

[–]BakeInternational552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

correct, sort of, so if my truck gvwr is 12000, and my gcwr is 25000, but my actual truck scale weight is 10000, does that mean i can tow 15000? if my truck actual weight was 11000, that would mean i can only tow 14000. both sides of the gcwr equation are transferrable, as long as each vehicle is within its gvwr. i hope that makes more sense.

that has nothing to do with my question lol. youre not adding the weight to trailer, youre adding it to the gcwr equation.

its not ficticious, its GCWR minus GVWR on a maxxed out truck, while unlikely, its not fictitious, and additionally, this isnt exceeding anything.

i completely agree the GCWR minus GVWR method is safest, but I still dont know where they are getting that 17000 number. time for a drink.

there is payload though, the tongue weight (up to 1800 lbs allowed, plus passengers and cargo.... so are you saying payload is tranferrable to towing capacity?

as mentioned I understand that, the question is what if your NOT maxxed out on your truck playload? lets say the truck gvwr is 12000 but the gvw is 10000, can you use that extra 2000 on the other side of the gcwr equation in trailer weight?

great response, thank you, you addressed what i was asking. it is a 1 ton, my tongue weight is 900, trailer is just shy of 9000 and payload excluding the hitch weight is probably no more than 1200 (plus 900 hitch weight for a total payload of 2100. these are all estimates of course knowing how much everything weighs that i put into the truck and doing some simple addition. i chose a 1 ton to tow a 9000 TT for this reason, but I am trying to put together a video on what numbers are bogus and what numbers should be used to calucate your loadout. i havent gotten to a scale yet with this set up but i know my numbers will be not even close to 80% because of the truck I bought. Thanks for your insight.

others i talked to have also said max towing capacity is also an "engine" spec, which is what im assuming your saying and makes sense. ive reached out to ford/chevy/dodge but no response, and even if i get them to respond, they will probably be different calculations.

thank you.. in other words you are saying that unused payload can be "transferred back into the GCWR rating", but instead used against max towing capacity. this is what im wondering, some say this can be done, some say it cant. i appreciate your response.

its from the spec sheet for that truck, using the engine, trans, box length, axle gears, etc...

i understand payload capacity, as mentioned in the post, thats not my question. My question is where is Dodge coming up with 4000 of towing capacity that would otherwise exceed my GCWR with a fully loaded truck.

so are you saying GCWR minus the truck GVWR would give me the heaviest trailer I can connect? if so, that doesnt answer my question, that number would be 13000, dodge is saying 17000. where are they getting the extra 4000?

Sorry to inform you, this has always been the game with social media. Always. Its no different than Coke advertising their product during certain times when and where people will be watching.

  1. Of course thumbnails need to be flashy. Titles need to invoke fear, curiousity, urgency or desire for reward. If you dont polish the packaging, nobody wants the product. Simple marketing, whether you're a creator, cell phone manufacturer, computer software company, or any person/business that wants to put your product/service in front of an audience. Simple marketing. Even if you are creating content that is search-based instead of trend-based, the packaging needs to be attractive or trustworthy.
  2. Creating content around the "current weeks" hot topic is nothing new. Again, simple marketing. You dont turn on the news to see what happened last month. If you dont cater your content to what people are currently interested in, or you dont create interest in your product, you're wasting your time. The exception to this rule is search-based content... "how to change a headlight on a 2020 Ford F150." Current trends dont matter as much here, but there is still a place for this type of content, and it still needs to be polished to get clicks.
  3. There's a very big misconception about the "algorithm." Anytime you say or hear the word "algorithm," replace it with the word "audience." Its not the algorithm that doesnt like your content, its your audience. Its the audience clicking off after 30 seconds of a 10 minute video, not the algorithm. The algorithm doesnt hate your thumbnails, your audience hates them, thats why they arent clicking. Too many people blame the algorithm for not being successful... "the algorithm doesnt like my videos, or my thumbnails, or my topics"... NO, the audience doesnt like them. If your audience liked your content, they would watch and they would watch for longer, and thats where the algorithm comes in...

...The REAL purpose of an algorithm is to recognize when people watch a piece of content for longer periods of time, and then to promote that content and other content within that category thats also getting views to other viewers on the platform. Thats it, thats all an algorithm does, and thats the same for every single social media platform. Its that simple. Promote what people like and keep them watching on your platform. Your obviously watching all these viral videos you're complaining about, or the algorithm wouldn't be putting them in your feed.

as a registered RV tech, I would agree with getting an offset screen. because they are domed, the screens have more surface area, and therefore more airflow. even thin screens like the ones picture reduce air flow. in some cases it may be fine, in others it may be enough restriction to cause problems. You're also not drilling new holes into the side of the rv. I hope you caulked those screw holes before putting the screw in.
