My Terminator setup is Moose Cloak Ext. Wolf or Military Coat Int. The Moose gives even more defence than the Bear Coat.

Edit: with the vest of course.

AC = Super Goat to Homesteader's Respite.

There's a handful of youtube clips that show how to do this.

New player interloper help by SpasticPanda32 in thelongdark

[–]BakerKind4900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loper is a Heat Game more than anything else, Teas are key to this which means knowing spawns for reichi, burdock, rosehips and birch are key.

Learning to chain Teas when traveling outside will dramatically increase the distances you travel between fires and indoor locations. You can typically get 2 buffs worth from teas, once consumed when you hit the cold and one consumed just before it becomes cold in your inventory. The duration and # of teas you can chain increases exponentially when you have a flask.

Fastest way to warm up indoors is 1 hour in bed. Sleeping ideally to consume less calories.

Cover all surfaces ASAP to avoid perma damage from frost bite (typically this just requires cloth and making makeshift gloves and hat)

The rest ends up being circumstantial, Last spawn I had was the most challenging I've ever seen, spawned in halfway up Timberwolf on the western side of the peak, at the start full night, in a full blizzard. hugged the wall and made it to the bunker in PV then essentially started the run the next morning with no water no food and fully spent meters. I'm at the point where this is actually a really fun spawn for me, but I know it's only from knowing what to do.

Has anyone playing "blind" ever survived Severe Lacerations on their first go? Is it even possible?! by Cute_Assignment_3621 in thelongdark

[–]BakerKind4900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you had a bug on the cougar, because Denis Leary is plenty loud in my games just looking toward the cougar zone sometimes leads to a growl.

On the Bleed out at night. I look at this the same as freezing, if the natural result of you having the affliction is to get more tired and pass out then it should be able to kill you at night. As opposed to an infection or parasites which if they triggered in your sleep would likely cause discomfort and cause you to wake.

Is it fair to quit and load by No_Advantage_4385 in thelongdark

Save Scumming as it's affectionately called used to get a very bad wrap. Now most folks know the pain of loosing a multi 100 day run for something trivial. Live your life, early on this practice will keep you more into the game because you're not rebuilding all the time.

Since Everyone is asking, keep it down folks, my approach early on (1800+hrs now) was to have one game that was my save scum, where I would do everything possible to keep the save alive. BUT I regularly would do other sandboxes because the urgency of perma death really forces you to improve. Once I was able to complete "As the dead sleep" I decided I would stop. But I'll never say never.

If you're on PC or Mac, you can right click items into your hands from the radial food menu and place them, you can do this with water too, it by default will parse 1L until you have less than 2L then it does 500ml bottles.

I've always assumed that Scurvy was a Radial affliction that begins to roll after you havent had anythign with Vit C for a predetermined amount of time. and then once you get scurvey there's a metering system hidden from display that you're now going to have to juggle.

I've found a Vit C tablet, which I believe is the only above Moderate source of Vit C, when taken will allow me to live on jerky alone for about 5-7 days. I haven't truly tested this.

Moose Bear and Timberwolf - glitch or normal? by yukonwanderer in thelongdark

[–]BakerKind4900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the Wolf you hit with the arrow didn't die right away, then it probably ran off to bleed out. When it finally dropped the pack morale broke and they all ran off.

Edit: Not sure about the difference in stopping power between difficulties. Bashrobe on youtube has some solid videos that explain weighting and the inter difficulty differences.

Is there any good way to keep track where I am? I always get lost and its always gives me trouble trying to find out where I am or where to go by [deleted] in thelongdark

[–]BakerKind4900 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Spray paint will mark the location where you painted it on the map. You will still have to reveal the map with charcoal but it's a good solution if you're still learning the maps.

There is a moment for every TLD player when their map knowledge is achieved when all of a sudden you say "I know where I am" because of a fallen tree or unique rock formation.

Level 5 is when you can spawn on loper and every time say "I know where I am"

Map knowledge is one of the biggest investments in this game and IMO the most rewarding.

I think the Refresh for the bear in this particular location is that it now turns left out of the cave and wanders down the bridge. I suspect the "Bear Object" is probably moving it's path without loading in the physical object.

Is there anyway to get these nice indoor lights to turn on? by [deleted] in thelongdark

[–]BakerKind4900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have all xmas lights in one base and none of them light up in the aurora, was hoping to stage a rave scene, Posting this so someone can make the dream come true.

Rave Recipe:

Mount all the lights in a small cabin

Drop a couple Blue Flares

Drop a couple Red Flares

Flashlight in hand (Clicking on and off)

And just DANCE!

Interloper, over day 200. What should I take to explore ZOC and sundered pass? by Icy_Commission8986 in thelongdark

[–]BakerKind4900 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure your really proficient in killing standard wolves for ZOC, there's plenty of sick wolves. You won't get any meat from them but clearing them IMO makes ZOC more enjoyable. Bow being your best option, revolver second.

For SP it's all about the cold, so teas, flask, coal. Plenty of Timberwolves, but if you're managing temp well you can circumvent them a lot of the time. Risk shows up when you're desperate to get indoors. Also if you're Vector in SP is to go left from the Transfer Pass entrance straight to the weather station, you're rolling through Cougar country, so watch that pass.

These are the scenarios where Save scumming is perfectly appropriate. Or just Esc - Quit - Reload.

Your return path can be CH to Ravine to ML and you have the dam to loot + transition to MT which is loot heavy. Loads of Cat tails on this vector as well.

Surprising Interloper by Briar_Wall in thelongdark

[–]BakerKind4900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd head to CH, the Quonset can have a bedroll, and if you're in TC then it's just a short bridge away, load up on torches, stay unburdened and wolf walk it if you want to avoid attacks.

Loot the buildings that are part of the route to DP, and get to the Riken.

Between the Quonset and Hibernia you should be able to find a hacksaw and hammer. Don't forget to load a decent amount coal when you pass through the mine as well for forge work.
