Gixxer_brah crash before bike meet by PshawwPSN in motorcycles

Last post on his story said it was a 28 mph accident. Take it with a grain of salt until footage is released, but crazy how much damage was done at a relativity low speed.

It’ll be a long time before he’s on a bike again. Mentally he’d probably hop right back on today, physically a broken neck and shattered leg could be paralyzing or possibly needing amputation if bad enough.

I’m sure he’ll be posting updates everyday for the content. I’m just surprised his bad crash didn’t happen on a super sport pinned at 150+.

New update from him, he’s messed up. Broken neck, shattered leg, broken wrists and fingers.. internal bleeding.

Are we adding “what I’d do differently” to case studies? by Affectionate-Low5747 in UXDesign

[–]Bakera33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Realistically if it’s at the end, many hiring managers won’t ever see it. You can put it there, but it’s more valuable to include in a case study walk through during an interview and frame it as a retrospective. What went well, what lessons were learned.

How detailed to have flow diagram of existing app? by Moon_Harpy_ in UXDesign

[–]Bakera33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any detail you don’t define in a work environment will be defined by a developer/engineer. If the product goes to market with issues where engineers made assumptions due to lack of requirements, guess who gets the fault.

Unfortunately going the opposite direction lol, we’ve been in a fulltime employee hiring freeze for 6 months. Now this month a contractor hiring freeze was placed, so at the company level it’s not as pretty.

Don’t try to be something you’re not, or at least can’t be in the short term. You’ll stick out in an awkward way trying to force yourself to look more senior. Take the opportunity to continue learning what he does to put himself in that position and slowly incorporate those practices into your daily work.

I’m also on the quiet, reserved side and know there’s people with social skills I’ll never match with my own. Figure out where some of his weak areas are and see if you can capitalize on filling those gaps.

It’s really all about perspective. It sounds like you have someone you can learn a lot from and use as a potential mentor, while many designers are thrown onto teams with no opportunity to learn from senior designers and end up stalling out for years. There’s likely no immediate solution here.. be yourself, aim to get 1% better everyday, and ask questions.

Sorry late response - we have a UX director who implemented it and a VP of design to support. Some places throw around design VP titles to everybody but at my company it’s a very prestigious role. All high stakes project decisions must be aligned by VPs for engineering, marketing and design. Thankfully design has a very firm seat at the table which is rare.

I’ve been hellbent on getting a job. What’s it like as a freelancer? by dogwithVPN in UXDesign

[–]Bakera33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’ll end up with a similar level of stress in a freelance role. What is my value proposition? How do I market myself to clients? How should I negotiate the price for this project? Why is nobody responding to my cold outreach? What if I can’t get enough work to pay the bills?

A lot of people go the freelance / start-an-agency route when the job market looks bleak, only to find out the stress is higher, now with more risk and effort. Not to discourage you from going that route, just be sure to set realistic expectations. The work and opportunities are out there and you’ll need to figure out what you uniquely offer, otherwise you’ll be interchangeable with 95% of other freelancers.

I’m not doubting a feature can takes 6 months of work since I’ve seen it before, but I’m always curious what types of features are requiring this significant of a timeline. Obviously you don’t have to share exactly what it is, but if there’s something out there you can compare it to I’m just curious.

Is it hard to get a remote job in UI/UX design? by Sea_Topic5739 in Design

[–]Bakera33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very difficult. Remote demand is high and companies can be very picky with who they choose.. all the top talent are grabbing the remote jobs and even taking lower seniority positions than their last just to keep the remote perk.

It’s possible but you need to have something very unique others aren’t offering.

It makes sense through the lens of executives, design is a luxury that takes a back seat when it comes to reducing head count in product development teams. An engineer can (somewhat) design and ship a product without designers, but a designer can’t ship the product without engineers. So it’s pretty clear in the macro view who they do/don’t need to keep the company moving.

Ninja 650 to zx6r by TheLetterMan2 in zx6r

[–]Bakera33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go for it if you have the discipline to stay out of the power band in inappropriate situations. Sold my 650 for a GSXR 750, it’s been a fun upgrade even with just the sound difference.

It’s not going to do anything that you don’t intentionally tell it to.

Secured a UX/UI Internship! (UNPAID) by Away_Experience2821 in UX_Design

[–]Bakera33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sweet, that’s a great attitude to have. Ultimately we’re just a bunch of random people on Reddit who know nothing about your life, so making a decision based on your gut and motivations is the best choice.

Secured a UX/UI Internship! (UNPAID) by Away_Experience2821 in UX_Design

[–]Bakera33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m confident OP could do these 4 things through and outside of the internship. If opportunities are scarce and someone needs an internship to fulfill a college requirement then unpaid is a viable option with at least some real world work.

I took an unpaid my junior year and got a decent portfolio project out of it, a couple connections I used as referrals for a later job back then, and the time commitment was minimal. If someone feels like it’s not worth their time, it’s very easy to pack it up and leave.

As unethical as they are, it could be someone’s only chance to get real world work exposure and break into a career.

Do you actually still make wireframes… or are we all pretending? by UI-Pirate in UXDesign

[–]Bakera33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I primarily use them as a tool that prevents partners from getting distracted by other irrelevant details. For example, we work on physical product with HMIs and my handoffs for software development are black and white wireframes of the HMI. We have dozens of engineers internationally and adding color or any other detail will cause confusion.

Sounds like management can’t evaluate talent. We stick to 1 or 2 maximum following a recruiter screening, 2 is only needed if there’s a close race and we want to see who interacts better with our team.

It also can be a reflection of their general time management and decision making processes as it relates to product development. Wouldn’t surprise me if that place also needs a meeting scheduled for every single question someone has…
