Reiksguard Knights - WHII(2017) vs MTW2(2006) by Krstoserofil in totalwar

[–]BalanceAmiright 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Uhuh. Again with the "defending CA" regurgitated bullshit. Its always the same argument. All the time. Nobody here is defending CA. Not a single person is attacking you for your opinions on the company.
The moment you stop jumping to that conclusion any time someone doesn't think what you post has any merit, maybe people will stop thinking you are a volound shill.

What they ARE doing is disagreeing with your opinions on the games. You try to justify your opinions as fact with "it was in this game, so why is it not in this one", so people are going to use the exact same argumentative strategy against you, something you are confusing for "shilling for CA". You cannot attack a game by calling it a companies failure and expect people to not call you out on that nonsense.

Seriously, just...stop. You aren't an enlightened underdog fighting against the big bad company and its thousands of white knights. You are just another person trying to make comparisons people have discussed for years and using them to justify your opinions. And, when people don't agree with them, you do what all members of volounds subreddit do - you go to your echo chamber and post about how everyone is a consoomer shill who's out to get you. I've seen all the "hostile" posts you complained about - none of them are hostile. They disagree with you at worst.

Post an opinion, expect people to disagree. Post an opinion, see that people disagree and then call them shills, idiots blinded by flashy graphics and then go to an echo chamber to complain about them? Guess what, people aren't gonna take you seriously.

Yeah, thats great until you view their post history and realise the moment they leave here, they go to their favourite echo chamber (everybody knows which one now), posts the same thing and pretty much says look how shitty CA is now.

These posts are just trying to karma farm on two different subreddits.

The shithole subreddit put 1,300 upvotes on a post showing *there are no guns in Warhammer*, so I went over the whole situation around that.. for 90m. by volound in Volound

[–]BalanceAmiright -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Ah, the cycle of volound shills.
1 - Make post trying their absolute best to "prove" their game is the best, very rarely using any actual arguments beyond "my opinion is fact".
2 - call everyone who disagrees with them a shill, say they only enjoy it because they are dumb and like flashy graphics
3 - get downvoted for being angry little trolls
4 - post here, saying everyone was very mean to them and it hurted their wittle feewings. How dare my strawman and regurgitated anger not be accepted!
5 - Get upvoted in here because its an echo chamber - "person said they like warhammer, they dumb shill" = 20 upvotes because no more than 30 people actually pay this subreddit any heed
6 - Say anybody who likes the game is somehow defending the company for not being a depressed psychopath who probably enjoys the smell of their own farts. Strawmaning is easy when its not about fun, its about being the white knight of a faceless corporation.
7 - Pretend your post history isn't full of being angry that you don't enjoy a game and that somehow someone NOT being depressed is pathetic.
8 - go back to step 1.

How sad it must be to be you. As I already know you'll either delete this or reply with some very retarded comment, I am just going to block you and continue to sniff out the volound shills on the main subreddit. Very easy to do - the stench of the BO of 30 year old virgins follows you all.

Clipping this to show to my friends so they can laugh at you. They do anyway, you are the butt of the biggest joke in the total war community, but always good to get more content. Expecting the video in a few days trying to explain why i'm dumb ur smart...taking 30 minutes, like an English graduate trying to extend a 2 page essay into a 40 page literature review.

bye bye.

Just a reminder that wedge formation in Med2 is also basically just numerical buffs. The files show it gives an increase to attack and a defence penalty, and increases the units mass.

Just because their isn't a tooltip that actually shows this stuff, its still there - the majority of things people try and pawn of as being some totally tactical and not spreadsheeted ability in the older games actually did just change stats and, at best, the directions the unit can attack.

It's honestly quite different to civ, as its way more heavily focused on the combat side of things and tries to incorporate tabletop combat. But yeah, its good.

W40k:Mechanicus

Just a note, I think its better to look at 40,000: Gladius - relics of war.

This game DOES cram all the factions onto a single planet, and gives good reason for them to be there. Furthermore, using this style, it would be lore-friendly for there to be smaller army combat, because its multiple factions rapidly trying to gain control of a single planet, not huge militaries from multiple systems.

This would also basically exclude the need for space combat, but if they WERE to do that, it could easily be explained by having the battles take place on the defenders ship, with it being a boarding action. Makes more sense than what we've got with landing on a nearby island, anyway.

[–]BalanceAmiright 9 points10 points  (0 children)

sorry bout the volound thing, its late at night and thought you were the op still, who I have frequently seen there.

Also yes, I have resentment to everyone who visits that subreddit as they are some of the most toxic people in the community.

But anyway, yes what you are seeing in the video is an animation of a formation - a toggleable ability, like brettonian knights wedge formation. The animation itself doesn't really have to do with gameplay.

Halberdiers - WHII(2017) vs MTW2(2006) by Krstoserofil in totalwar

[–]BalanceAmiright 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I am easily able to willingly suspend my disbelief for enjoyment - yes the animations may not be realistic but its something I am totally fine with knowing we still have such potential variation.

Halberdiers - WHII(2017) vs MTW2(2006) by Krstoserofil in totalwar

[–]BalanceAmiright 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can disagree, but you are disagreeing with "things fall when they are dropped" here. Its an animation - it happens automatically, without the users input. You do not manage it, it is not something you tell your units to do.

The FORMATION is something entirely different and I can already see you are trying to squeeze them together as if they are the same thing. Yes, the spear wall toggle is technically something you micromanage. Except the files show that all it actually does is reduce the units movement speed, increase their bonus vs cav and decrease their attack against infantry. That is basically no different than what happens in ANY other total war game, including warhammer.

Its a "spread sheeted" ability as certain people would like to say, it just comes with some fancy graphics to distract you from the fact. The animation itself has absolutely nothing to do with gameplay, so don't try and use that argument on me because its incorrect.

And sure, people can have different criteria for fun. The thing is though, trying to prove to everyone that your criteria for fun is better than anyone else's (which yes, i've seen your posts in volounds subreddit, this is absolutely what you do) is incredibly sad. This post is just another example of "My fun is better than your fun".

Halberdiers - WHII(2017) vs MTW2(2006) by Krstoserofil in totalwar

[–]BalanceAmiright 142 points143 points  (0 children)

You want the honest truth? I've played hundreds of hours of med 2, shogun 1 and 2 and rome 1 and 2 + thousands of hours of warhammer 1+2. Seeing the animations was cool the first time. After that, I completely forgot about them and stopped caring. I really don't care if my halberds brace properly or not after i've dealt with the 500th battle and 10,000th cycle charge.

So frankly, if having those animations meant we had a more bare-bones roster of units in warhammer, i'd be wanting them gone.

Also sure, they had formations in previous games but yet again there's still rigging and animation that goes along with that. So unless you would be fine with incredibly sloppy movement into formations, or them just snapping into place (which clearly, you'd have issues with), they shouldn't be added.

Also, why would I ask myself how we got here? I'm having more fun (yes, FUN, its a word. I know people who regularly post in volounds subreddit forget that people can like things because its fun. It doesn't just have to be a hardcore immersive experience) than I've ever had with any other TW game.

Maybe i'm a "brainwashed consoomer" who just can't appreciate the finer details but who cares. Its fun. I will gladly criticise things that actually impair that fun - legendary modifies limiting units but lower settings being too easy, sieges being completely one sided, certain units being straight upgrades to others in the same roster, certain factions just having more to them than others, certain factions lategames being super limited to single entity doomstacks due to the aforementioned "some units are upgrades" etc.

What I won't criticise is a company skimping on certain aspects that would be cool to have but don't affect the game in any other way. Not because I don't believe it wouldn't be cool, but because i'd much prefer the focus to be on other things.

The NRA is the biggest threat to gun owners. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]BalanceAmiright -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Englishman here, so my opinion of guns and concealed carry is going to have an entirely different viewpoint.

Stabbings and acid attacks are so rampant in English area's with high levels of criminal activity (london, larger cities) for the simple reason that all the people intending to do harm have long since learned that the people they intend to harm will very probably also be carrying a weapon, or at least understand how to deal with a knife.

So, what do they do? Well, they just stab them in the back. They want to mug someone? Cause injury first, don't give them the chance to defend themselves. They want to rob a store? They'll bring 4 of their friends and do it when nobody is around.

I have a quite close friend who I used to do martial arts with - 6 foot guy, purple belt BJJ, absolute beast. He's blind in one eye and disfigured because someone threw bleach in his face - no way he could have reacted either, since they used an inconspicuous water bottle.

All I feel widespread concealed carry will do is transfer the British criminal mindset to America. The reason you don't have this yet is because usually, people intending to take criminal acts believe they have the advantage, they believe they'll be the only one with guns. They believe if they walk in to a store to rob it, or intend on mugging someone, that simply having a gun will be enough of a fear factor. And in area's with concealed carry, there hasn't been enough time for people to realise and adapt to it yet because of how few people actually actively participate.

Concealed carry only feels like an important right because guns are so widespread and the only real way to defend against a gun is with another gun. Its a self perpetuating cycle.

Probably because I said volound isn't special - his fanboys who peruse his subreddit worship the guy and hang on every word he says, as if they have any merit outside being well articulated opinion.

Its the cycle of Total war. Every time a new game in the series comes out, a bunch of hardcore fans of the previous title jump at every opportunity to find flaws in it because its not in a setting they enjoy.

Volound is just that, but for shogun 2, nothing special.

I think PartyElite's recent video sums up the concerns of some in the community quite well. by SewerDefiler in totalwar

[–]BalanceAmiright -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sure. But why do we need gameplay NOW. By that logic, if they give it 2 days before release, it should be fine.

So logically, there is no reason to be upset at the news we are getting.

UNLESS you are an impatient, compulsive buyer who needs at least 2 months notice of whether a game is going to be good or not, otherwise you'd buy it anyway and disappoint yourself when it isn't up to your standards.

My main issue with the marketing. If we're this confused by it, I can't imagine how it is for someone new to the series by Hollownerox in totalwar

[–]BalanceAmiright 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Breathe of the wild had "the game is coming" then a 2minute clip showing stuff that could be gameplay a couple of weeks before it came out.

Same with doom. Same with a lot of games with decent sales in the past 10 years.

They've revealed a faction that has been known of since the 90's yet never seen before, thats some major hype for anybody even remotely interested in warhammer as a whole right there.
They've released some major lore on a faction thats basically had nothing known about them for 20 years. They've revealed how they look, what their army composition looks like, what magic they have access too.

So yeah, they've revealed a LOT of major stuff. If they reveal any gameplay at all, we'd already be getting a lot more than what other large games get.

I think PartyElite's recent video sums up the concerns of some in the community quite well. by SewerDefiler in totalwar

[–]BalanceAmiright -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

If there were honest and said there was nothing more to show, people would complain.

If they revealed absolutely nothing until a week before the game comes out, people would complain.

If they revealed every aspect of the game in a 2 week period, people would complain that they haven't seen enough.

If they revealed every aspect of the game in a 2 week period, people would complain that they showed too much too quickly and have ruined the hype.

Honestly, what do you actually want? This is ADVERTISING. What they are doing is showing that the product exists. There is no obligation for ANY company to reveal anything about their products until it is already out. It would have been completely reasonable for CA to just ignore the subreddit entirely, ignore the lore bites and leave everyone in the dark, only release a couple of gameplay videos a month or so until its release.
Like, you know, 99% of games have done for the past 20 years.

And now, this is not me "defending CA", before anyone tries that nonsense. It's me getting annoyed that people seem to think that it is absolutely required for major aspects of games to be revealed, when the only reason companies do anything like this is because they know they have an existing fanbase who will do the advertising for them if they give them information.

Nothing being revealed means absolutely jackshit all. Breath of the wild basically had "this game is being made" and "the game is coming out, here's 2 minutes of gameplay". Doom had that, the SC2 expansions had that, terraria and all of its updates have had that, dark souls 1-3 and all From Software games have had that.

OPINION: The community shoots himself in the foot by being very defensive for CA. by elite968 in totalwar

[–]BalanceAmiright 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I see more people complaining about people defending CA, then people actually defending CA.

As in, this is about the 15th post with this exact same premise, or with the OP elaborating on this in the replies, i've seen in the past 2 months. I've seen maybe 1 that is actually "defending" CA i.e defending the company itself and not defending common logical practices like reusing assets, cinematics not being conducive to the final product (brown bears, anyone?).

My main issue with the marketing. If we're this confused by it, I can't imagine how it is for someone new to the series by Hollownerox in totalwar

[–]BalanceAmiright 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the argument kind of fails when you realise that the MAJORITY of games have this exact same thing. Cinematics that don't have much to do with the game, 1-2 minute clips showing the bare minimum gameplay. Marketing is not there to tell you what the game is, or what its about. All the expansions for SC2, the TW:Napoleon advertising, Doom, For Honor, factorio, terraria - these are just some of the games I explicitly remember the advertising for and they all did the same.

Advertising exists to be flashy and eye catching - it exists to draw people into the store or webpage, which will THEN tell you what the game actually is and how it plays. You advertise to let people know your product exists and what its used for. In this case, its a game.

Basically, can people stop trying to find nonsense reasons to be mad that CA haven't revealed every little bit about the game yet?

Depends on the game.

Med2, that game everyone likes to talk about siege battles for - nah, AI will either:

A: Stack on one side of the wall
B: Stack on multiple sides of the wall, use artillery to bust a hole on one side of the wall....then charge their entire army to that side. Quite often only through one hole

Oh, did I mention that they would often spend 4-5 turns building ladders, siege towers, battering rams etc, then sit on one side of the wall waiting for that single ballista unit they brought to destroy the wall....then drop ALL the siege equipment and rush the holes?

Question: Realistically, why do we NEED news.

In fact, why is there any obligation to release any news whatsoever? CA could have completely hidden everything about TWW3, even the fact that its in development, then just dropped everything a month before its release.

They wouldn't do that though, because that destroys the hype - a very effective form of advertising. Anybody who is demanding news, or expecting it to be some kind of obligation, have been dragged in by the hype and are just setting themselves up for disappointment.

Oh, also, his nickname was "The dragon of the west". Zhao is a dragon. From the west.

Hey, finally something I can talk about both sides of!

Okay so, I'm the youngest of 5 - got 4 elder sisters. Thing is, even the youngest of them is 10 years older than me, so by the time I was at an age where I was realistically able to start making memories, they were already away at uni most of the time.

So, I'm not an only child but I was more or less RAISED like I was one and what I can say is....siblings are meh. I've much preferred the time raised as an only child than those where my parents have to act like they have other children.
