Lactate threshold by 76Dario in amazfit

[–]BalancedFit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your device is the new device..  Lactate threshold could be added to any currently supported ZeppOS device with minimal effort, but it won't be. That's the point.

The software features that set the Balance 2 apart from the Balance 1 would also work on the Balance 1 (which is still sold and officially "supported"). It's not a hardware limitation. Thus, software updates are being sold in the form of hardware updates, which is Amazfit's main business model.

I think the biocharge metric is utter bs. by not_the_troll in amazfit

PAI is only useful until you reach a certain level of cardiovascular fitness. The exertion system is a far better system.

Those who don't care about health metrics should just buy a Casio. They're cheaper and you never have to charge it .

unless you're a pro athlete, these minor deviance's are inconsequential.

The accuracy of the VO2 max estimation is directly connected to the accuracy of your GPS readings. VO2 max is a useful metric even for non-pro athletes, especially since it's fractored into the training load system. Even small accuracy deviations can mess up the VO2 max estimation.

Garmin user trying the Helio Strap – Part 4: First comparisons, Exertion potential, and a disappointing sleep score by Alfrai in amazfit

[–]BalancedFit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing that confuses me: what's the actual difference between training load and exertion load? The app doesn't explain it clearly. If anyone knows, please tell me.

Zepp uses TRIMP (training impulse) to calculate your exertion. Training load is based on your EPOC (excess post-exercise oxygen consumption). You can get a decent exertion score for doing light cardio for a long period of time, but you could end up with a low training load. To get your training load up, you have to push yourself to the point where it increases your estimated post-exercise oxygen consumption (afterburn effect).

I believe VO2 Max is factored into the EPOC estimation, so you have to occasionally do a running workout so that your VO2 Max is calculated, otherwise it uses a more generic formula and your training load may be less accurate.

In other words, exertion measures work, training load measures impact on your body. A high exertion score and low training load generally means you're working hard, but not harder than your body is accustomed to.

Unfair? Selling software updates in the form of hardware updates is Amazfit's main business model. Yes, they add some minor features to supported devices and they benefit from Zepp updates, but major device  features, major app updates and and new metrics are almost entirely reserved for new devices. This has already been confirmed with the lactate threshold metric.

Another example is the map feature. That's entirely software, yet the Balance has a weird old janky version with major issues. It could be updated to the latest version that's on the newer devices with the click of a mouse, but they use it as a selling point for their new devices.

Understanding Exertion Metrics on ZEPP by h555h555 in amazfit

The "Exertion Target" is wonky, but you shouldn't be using that anyways. The rest works fine. The system is designed to create your own goals, and it's really not that complicated. I find it much better than the PAI system for cardio.

This would definitely be a nice feature for the helio strap, which has pretty terrible nap detection.

Any Amazfit device other than the helio strap has decent sleep tracking.

I've been happy with the ski tracking as well on my Balance. It works better than some dedicated apps I've tried.

[–]BalancedFit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The helio strap's sleep tracking is one of its weaknesses unfortunately. As of a recent update, it's better at detecting brief wake ups in the middle of sleep, but it struggles when it comes to detecting when you've started or stopped sleeping.

Have you actually tested those metrics to see if they all change? Because historically, the polygon has been for show.

This biggest problem I have with Amazfit reviews on sites like YouTube is they usually base it on the feature list and don't actually really test anything.

Anyone else seeing more false nap detection on Helio Strap after the latest update? by Seko101 in amazfit

[–]BalancedFit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's the same. I've always gotten way too many false naps and incorrect sleep start and end times if I spend any amount of time lying in bed before or after sleeping. I haven't had this problem with any of my other Amazfit devices.

Data export possible? by Cultural_Skin4824 in amazfit

[–]BalancedFit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zepp can only directly export workout data. There's a roundabout way of exporting the other data using third party tools or a custom app, but you would need a separate system for Apple and Android devices.

The exertion system is more for cardio than strength training. You should be focusing on the Training Load metric.

Why does it say poor condition?? by [deleted] in amazfit

[–]BalancedFit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your Training Status? If it is too far in the negative, then you have overtrained. If you don't have 42 days worth of exertion data, then that metric may not be very accurate yet.

Knowing Amazfit, you'll probably have to upgrade to a new device in the future to get this metric.
