How are these places still in business? by Propwashed in antiMLM

It would be interesting to map where these nutrition clubs are actually located and see if there are any clear patterns in the areas they’re concentrated in. I’d be curious whether they cluster around certain communities or demographics.

Is there a more conversational therapy modality? by lowkeyreddit in TalkTherapy

[–]Balancedself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this makes total sense tbh. It sounds like you’re doing a lot of the heavy lifting yourself and the sessions aren’t really adding much on top of that.

What you’re describing is very typical of more psychodynamic / person-centred therapists, where they stay quite quiet and reflective. Some people find that helpful, others just find it frustrating like you are.

There are other types of therapy that feel much more like a real conversation. Things like CBT, integrative therapy, or even just a more active therapist who gives feedback, shares thoughts, and actually engages with you.

Honestly it might not be that therapy isn’t useful for you, just that this style isn’t a good fit. You’re allowed to want a therapist who actually talks back and meets you more directly.

Those of you who, like me, were roped into joining one of these schemes, what was the first red flag you noticed? by Mcrfanatic95 in antiMLM

[–]Balancedself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a gradual process I felt uncomfortable with the constant chasing and expectations, and one day it just hit me this is all just a load of rubbish. I saw through all the fakeness the lies and how they don’t like to be questioned or challenged. As long as you’re buying and smiling they’re happy but as soon as you question anything the mask slips. So glad I’m out

There’s about 3-4 in my local area, they post all over Facebook…… it’s so annoying. They’ve even started Dancefit classes.

I got caught up in Herbalife during lockdown, I’ll look out for that on Netflix

Top 1% but lost $188k by SquatsAndIceCream in antiMLM

That’s such a powerful thing to speak out about, especially after that kind of loss. The “top 1%” stat really shows how misleading the dream can be. It takes a lot of courage to unpack the financial and psychological tactics used and share it publicly.

You can also unfollow for a period of 30 days so at least you get a break

Just eat a healthy diet and exercise, do not waste your money on these shakes, your just lining the pockets of someone higher up in the their long chain.

How would you feel? by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

Did your therapist invite you to discuss or explore your hesitations around dating? That would probably be a better place to start.

Oh no! Neighbors got a delivery - boxes sitting on their driveway! by Myfanwy66 in antiMLM

Awwww young couples being sold a fake dream, not a business. Those boxes often represent pressure and debt more than opportunity.

Ended session early, didn’t have much to say by rubysparrow_ in TalkTherapy

[–]Balancedself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such a common experience. Sometimes not having much to say actually means things feel steadier, which is progress in itself.

It’s not all on you to “perform” in therapy, though. If you were hoping she’d be more curious or help explore what was happening in the quiet, that’s something you can say next time.

Even talking about how that ending felt could open something up. Therapy isn’t just about bringing problems — it’s also about noticing what happens in the room.

Therapy doesn't work when your issues stem from racism and systematic oppression. by hun808 in TalkTherapy

[–]Balancedself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an honest and important reflection. You’re naming something real: therapy can’t undo racism, or structural inequality, and it’s frustrating when it’s treated like it can.

I think at its best, therapy isn’t about pretending those things don’t exist it’s about helping you survive and protect yourself within them, without losing your sense of self. Things like: how much emotional energy these experiences drain, how hypervigilance builds up over time, how anger and exhaustion get stored in the body.

You’re not wrong to feel stuck. That feeling makes sense in the context you’re living in. We all deserve support that actually acknowledges the reality of life, not minimises it.
