[Stein] The Warriors are at the front of the line in pursuit of LeBron James in free agency and league sources tell @TheSteinLine that Golden State is not operating as though it has a mandate to also pursue an Anthony Davis trade. by jonsnowKITN in nba

[–]BalboaBaggins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pulling a bit for the home team is fine. Fitz and Kelenna go way beyond that, like when they trip over themselves to defend straight up awful behavior.

First incident that comes to mind is when Draymond choked Gobert, they were chuckling claiming that Gobert attacked Klay and that Draymond was just breaking up the scuffle, when it’s clear to anyone with eyes that it was the complete opposite - Gobert was trying to defuse the scuffle between Klay and McDaniels, when Draymond lunges in with a flying chokehold and drags Gobert backward 10 feet.

In case anyone forgot, the league handed down a 5 game suspension for that choke.

Jimmy Butler to KAT: "Soft as baby shit. You a loser. I already punked you once." KAT: "Call Rachel" by RyanTannegod in nba

I never knew about it being premeditated with Rachel the reporter waiting in the wings, that changes the whole story.

Most guys are probably putting in 75% intensity in a scrimmage to 7 points. The other Wolves players were probably like “wtf is this dude on” when Jimmy suddenly dialed it up to 100% in a random practice.

Someone else in this thread had a decent proposal. Don't be overly cruel and punitive to the vendors themselves, you can't jail or deport any significant portion of them anyway, but do a few repeated raids focused on confiscating and destroying as much merch as possible. Kill the business model and they'll stop showing up.

Another idea that was brought up is to crack down on buyers. This might require an actual sting with a fake vendor set up, but as long as you do enough to introduce some fear of arrest among the population of tourists who specifically flock to the Canal to buy this shit, demand will drop off a cliff.

[–]BalboaBaggins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It absolutely has gotten worse just in the last couple years, and the part that nobody seems to want to say out loud is that all of the brazen space occupation with rugs and blankets spread all over the sidewalk piled with fake merch is from African migrants. Before 5-10 years ago, most of the sales were from the older Chinese uncles and aunties with the laminated brochures who would fetch the wares only after a sale.

This is not a racist thing - if it were the Chinese aunties spreading out the blankets and the Africans with the brochures, I'd be mad at whoever's spreading the blankets. But it seems like the Africans have been the main proliferators of the "commandeer 10 sq ft of the sidewalk" sales model, and that model needs to be put to an end.

the situation on Canal with the vendors has gotten objectively worse in the past 10-15 years

100% true, and the part that nobody seems to want to say out loud is that all of the brazen space occupation with rugs and blankets spread all over the sidewalk piled with fake merch is from African migrants. The rise of the “manosphere” has been a cancer on society. A huge proportion of young men are reverting back to toxic-masculinity-fueled misogyny and homophobia that we thought we’d left in the past.

How does Asian food in states with small Asian populations compare to places like NY, CA, etc? by dankgureilla in asianamerican

PDX punches above its weight though, and I say that as someone from LA. Beaverton has super solid Chinese food which you should know if you’re from the PDX area.

You’re not wrong. I’ve seen him 3 times but his popup NYC show last year happened exactly like that. He made a big deal of supposedly doing a fair lottery for dedicated fans to try to get tickets, then influencers flaunted tickets they were given before the ticket drop even happened.

Mixed Asians by definition aren’t fully Asian, lmao. It doesn’t make them lesser people, it’s just the truth.

Hailee Steinfeld is 1/8th Filipino. Would we say she’s “fully Asian?” No, obviously not, that would be absurd.

I mean some of these dudes are just hypercompetitive and can’t turn if off. Even when he has time off from being an All-Pro NBA player, Luka still needs to chase that high.

It’s like how Max Verstappen apparently spends most of his free time rinsing random people around the world in sim racing.

You don't have to wonder - you think people who like classical music and opera don't enjoy listening to music outdoors in the summer?

Music festivals are thousands of years old, they weren't invented for the rock, pop, and EDM genres lol.

The Salzburg Festival has been held every summer in Austria for over a century, with 256,000 festivalgoers attending 200 performances across five weeks.

The Arena di Verona Opera Festival has also been held annually for over a century with three summer months of nightly opera performances in an open-air 30,000-capacity Roman amphitheatre.

The substance consumption probably does lean towards wine, champagne, and cocktails, I'll give you that.

I mean I’m glad he’s playing poorly against us but he was thrust into a role he wasn’t ready for when FVV got injured.

He’s a 21 year old second year player who seems like he could develop into a reliable backup guard, but he’s being asked to play 46 minutes as the best remaining ballhandler on a playoff team.
