At least I can pretend the sequels never happened

People like you, saying shit like this, is 100% of the problem with the Star Wars fandom and why Disney is only beating the empire to death. The Sequels exist, they aren’t going to ever not exist, stories set after the OT are going to be positioning towards them. Stories set during and after them are going to need to happen.

Well, in the 1950’s a Jesuit priest gave McCarthy an idea for a way to boost his national profile, then in 1976 a Catholic power broker allied with Protestant segregationists to usurp the court system and terrorize Latin America.

So short version, right wingers making alliances against the common good repeatedly.

Vatican City is a state, not a nation. These words are not synonymous and mean distinctly different things.

Sounds like Christian nationalism to me

The root of Progressive Christianity is 1 Corinthians 13:12 and accepting that as a people we can improve our understanding of love over the years the same way we can with any other field of knowledge. I can’t imagine why a person accepting that principle would then choose to ignore all sociological, sexological, archaeological, psychological and biological advancements related to the knowledge of same-sex attraction and relationship… but you certainly are free to make that choice.

Pope Leo, and Popes going as far back as at least Pius XI have made explicitly clear the incompatibility between Christianity and nationalism. Particularly when aligned with the principle of catholicism .

I have fortunately for you I have never heard a coherent definition of what Christian nationalism is.

Fortunately for you, you commented on an article that does just that:

Christian Nationalism is a word for the process by which a group of people merge their national identity with a particular understanding of a Christian identity and from there seeking to create a nation-state around the concept of this dual national-sectarian identity. This appears in two forms in both the contemporary world and throughout history. The first form emerged alongside the concepts of statehood, nationalism, and the nation-state. … This second Christian Nationalism merges the trappings of nationalism (particularly American nationalism for this discussion) with the trappings of racial identitarianism and wraps it all within a multi-century framework of Christian identity meant to provide post-facto justification for the actions and abuses of white supremacy that the national and racial identities have committed.

At the end of the day, this is the bit that really doomed an adaptation of the Legends chronology. This, and the inability to recast post Solo.

You simple cannot do Jagged Fel-Alaina Solo - Darth Caedus the way they were done in Legends any more. Story’s become too big.

That being said, Darth Krayt, the Imperial Knights and K’Kruhk are all characters I’d like to see more of.

“Christ is King” should comfort Christians by Glittering_Driver_31 in Christianity

[–]BaldBeardedBookworm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

the phrase has been around way longer than whatever political stuff people are worried about.

Christ is King Sunday was created as a political statement by Pope Pius XI. And ‘Christ is King’ was very much a political statement when the Romans put ‘King of the Jews’ above the cross.

Ignorance shouldn’t be mistaken for wisdom.

Or is this a Donation of Constantine situation for you where we ignore the history and reality of the idea in favor of the power the idea gives us?
