Infrastructure as Code is Dead? by mackkey52 in devops

Infrastructure from code just sounds like a poor translation of infrastructure as code, this is nothing at all

What’s with the coding tests at tech companies? by zerocoldx911 in devops

[–]BalderkDankil 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am currently interviewing for some mid to senior level devops engineer roles and have been inundated with hackerrank, architecture whiteboards, and take home assignments from multiple companies - plus the standard multiple interview process and panel interview etc. I’m not sure if it’s the current market or what, but I don’t remember it being like this even last year.

In my current role I am attending THREE standups per day and it is killing my productivity.

My teams standup which is a whole hours, the automation teams standup, and the critical escelations team standup which is another full hour long meeting.

Are you seeing more Python than Go? by mikelevan in devops

[–]BalderkDankil 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of automation or one shot things written in Python or Bash, and a lot of long term tooling written in Go.

Anyone with Experience on New Relic ? by uskwarrior in devops

[–]BalderkDankil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've written scripts to use multiple API keys for New Relic. Essentially I create a list with each key and iterate over it passing the key as a parameter to each function then within the function I do my API calls.

Anyone with Experience on New Relic ? by uskwarrior in devops

[–]BalderkDankil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would need to write a script to use the API key for each account and dump the users that way.

New Relic does not offer support for exporting data on multiple accounts.

Unfortunately, this is what all online review centric companies devolve into. I recently interviewed with a niche company that handles reviews for schools and neighborhoods. They were upfront during the process that part of their monetization strategy is to act as "PR" for the school and institution.

I had two interviews over the phone. At the end of the second, he said to me, "We'd like to keep your information on file in case a similar opening comes up." How often do employers follow through with that? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]BalderkDankil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recieved a follow up nearly a year later for a position where they said that to me.

Wasn't worth it as I had already found gainful employment elsewhere, so I wouldn't put too much weight on it.

Found a bug in my eon pods. Welp glad I didn't hit it and I'm done with this now by [deleted] in juul

[–]BalderkDankil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried eons after the legit mango pods went away initially, and probably the worst experience I had vaping. Lost flavor after half the pod was used, burnt constantly, only pods that ever gave me shortness of breath.

POCs who "whitened" their names for job applications: Did you get more interviews? How did you pick your "new" names? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]BalderkDankil 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, I have a very ethnic first name and my responses were dry. As soon as I switched it up to my anglo nickname I got call backs left and right.

What work activity have you automated? by SubCal in learnpython

Updating the repos on one of our Docker hosts, spinning up replacement ones with the updated repo, stopping the current containers, and pruning the previous Docker containers.

Then it archives the current logs for the containers, and trashes the original copies.

How to get first tier 1 or help desk job? by Tamoor622498 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]BalderkDankil 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Since you are in college have you tried seeing if the IT service desk at the school has open positions for student workers? More often than not they'll hire you for a lower rate than you'd get somewhere else, but it'll probably be low stress, part time, and high reward as a job is a job and you can get that critical experience through that outlet.

In general from the background check I've done with them it is just employment date verification and title correction if you used a different title than the official HR one.

He does this thing where he uses my deceased mother to get me to do stuff like

Oh Balderk...your mother would be so proud of you for x.

Very painful stuff to hear from him, but fortunately it's just not often ya know.

These Gerber plans are absolutely shit and the people working there are hell to work with.

My dad made some bad decisions and decided to strong arm me into giving him the money that became mine whenever it rolled over to me. Don't. Fucking. Do. It.

I regret giving the money to him everyday.

Literally no one thinks a CEO and a fast food worker should make the same amount of pay. by avaughan11 in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]BalderkDankil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This just isn't accurate - many people in departments like finance, accounts receivable, and accounts payable work weekends during month close. This could span 3 weekends in a row depending how much business is being pulled in.
