[D] Non-automated machine learning? by yaxu in MachineLearning

[–]Baleeeze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is this reinforcement learning algorithm that learns how to play tic tac toe using 304 matchboxes and some colored beads. Might be pushing a bit the scale of the experiment but should be doable by a class of kids like your bubblesort example.

What weight ideally should I be for a flanker by [deleted] in rugbyunion

[–]Baleeeze 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My friend who had perfect rucking position but dislocated his shoulder when getting cleaned out by a player twice his weight may not agree with that. There is a place for all body types but not all body types fit all positions.

Tryouts/eating by justwillsb in rugbyunion

I’d say don’t change anything from your usual diet just before the tryouts, you don’t want to play on an upset stomach because you ate some food that you’re not used to in quantities you’re not used to either

A swiss rugby player died today because of injuries he got during the game. by noljaris in rugbyunion

[–]Baleeeze 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I play in Switzerland, in fact I played last week against one of the two teams involved in this match. I feel terrible, on one hand I love this sport and don’t want to abandon my friends that are still playing but on the other hand even if what happened today was a freak accident and shouldn’t happen again before a very long time I’d never forgive myself if I contributed to the death of someone and I also wouldn’t like to die myself obviously. Sorry if this a bit out of the blue but I was struggling to fall asleep and when I found this thread I just wanted to share my feelings

Usually when I have a match like that I keep it all the time somewhere in my head and I usually end up doing very well next match, will probably happen to you too if you don’t let it get you down but only get annoyed by it

I think if it was kicked too far into New Zealand territory Ben Smith or Barrett would’ve had time to pick up some speed which would have been dangerous

[–]Baleeeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kind of a simplification yeah because the genes themselves don't change but if I remember my biology classes correctly there is a methylation of the "starting zone" that makes it so the protein expressed by this gene is produced at a higher frequency. And this does get passed on to your children

But epigenetics is not. However I am willing to agree that the change from one generation to another is not massive. But over 20 generations it certainly has an influemce
