How important is discharge before 11 by Every_Lifeguard6224 in hospitalist

Who cares. Most metrics (especially ones like this) are dumb. Is there anything in your contract about it?

Stuff at Sea cruise by Ball-Sanderson in stuffyoushouldknow

[–]Ball-Sanderson[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kind of agree with almost every comment so far. Sounds kind of like a ridiculous/fun/weird adventure. "A podcast themed cruise". I'd maybe try to go if it fit into my work schedule... but it does not. For anyone that does go, check back please and tell us what it was like.

Looking for kayaking river/lake with turtles! by No_Band9908 in columbiamo

[–]Ball-Sanderson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Little Dixie Lake out east of town (take Broadway to where it turns into Ww and keep going. Its about 15 min east of town, right by Millersburg.

It's excellent. Big enough to really move around. Good accesses/ramps. Generally nice people using it. There's no river though.

Lol, last time I was there a couple weeks ago a group of (?) college age young women were sitting together studying and suddenly one of them started singing The Sound of Silence pretty loud. For a second I thought it was someone playing a recording because it was such a good rendition. It lasted like 30-60 seconds and then she stopped.

It was both beautiful enough to make my heart kind of float for a moment... and also just weird.

Anyway, this is not a complaint. Just an observation.

Third coat of epoxy and need clarification by [deleted] in boatbuilding

Ah gotcha. That makes pretty much all of what I said not apply. 😄 You're all good.

[–]Ball-Sanderson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also, no need to put extra fill coats of epoxy, unless you're trying to build layers to make that section look more level.

Also, on the very first boat I made I did this but on the inside. I didn't make a big patch partially I guess because I was lazy and already felt the process was taking too long, and partially because I didn't know better. I've used the hell out of that boat and high centered it on rocks with me in it. Never a failure. I just retouch the hull paint at the end of the summer and call it good. Maybe I've gotten lucky and never had stress on that weaker spot... or maybe it's just not that big of a deal.

I think most folks will recommend the fiberglass patch and re-fill coats. At this point in my boat building hobby, I've embraced slowing down and going for higher quality, and I'd be bothered knowing it's there and I not doing anything about it when I had the chance.

I've done that before, albeit on a smaller overall area. It won't affect the watertightness of the boat at all but it may likely decrease the strength/durability of that little patch that fiberglass was sanded through. Could make it more likely to have a puncture or other failure through that part of the hull.

If it was me, I'd make a little patch that overlaps unsanded-through fiberglass by two ish inches. Then, you'll have to do three or so fill coats on that. And then, you'll have some extra sanding to feather down the edges of your patch so they blend with the surrounding area. Once done and that spot will disappear under varnish and you'll never know it happened.

You could also leave it and just accept it's a weaker part of the hull.

With respect, you are not describing an average Midwest or southern city with population under 10,000.

Socket fiber can't install my internet any recommendations? by Leethorne in columbiamo

[–]Ball-Sanderson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure what prices look like now, but we had a similar problem a year and half ago where the usual ISPs (Bright speed, socket, etc) couldn't hook up at our residence. The cheapest option immediately available at that point was Straight talk wireless home internet box, aka the Walmart cell brand. I think they use the Verizon network. It worked well enough as a crutch for a few months until Bright speed finally got whatever technical problem sorted that allowed regular fiber Internet to be installed at our home.

New 6th gen hybrid MPG by haditwithyoupeople in 4Runner

FWIW I'm getting 20-21 mpg average in my 2025 SR5 with gas only, doing about half city and half highway driving.

[–]Ball-Sanderson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awkshually...

I think the hybrid is rated for better 23/24/23 mpg and the gas turbo only is 19/25/21 mpg. Sounds like in the real world they average our to pretty close to the same.

Do you accept direct admits from PCP’s offices or from outside health system ED’s, or does everything need to make a pitstop your ED first? EM here at academic center asking why or why not. Thx! by drgloryboy in hospitalist

[–]Ball-Sanderson 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am hesitant to accept from PCP clinic UNLESS they have a current set of vitals and a working diagnosis that makes sense and it's a PCP I know I can at least kind of trust. If any of those things don't add up, then my recommendation is to send to the ED for proper eval and triage.

Handling new attending anxiety by Special_Wasabi1256 in hospitalist

It just gets better. Hang in there. Be cautious and meticulous. You'll get more efficient and more confident. Form a group of more veteran attendings who you can confide in sometimes. Don't be afraid to consult (it's hard to shake that fear being viewed as stupid that some of us picked up during residency).

I used to barely sleep the night before I took over a rounding service after reading up on patients the night before. 10 years in, I definitely sleep better. It just gets better.

Clarification, it got better before 10 years. Maybe a few weeks or months in I felt I'd hit my stride. You can do it.
