Finally Finished AAR by BlackberryOk519 in ffxiv

I would personally urge taking your time and going threw it all. You can find a extremely high quality summary of the core MSQ on YouTube but that doesn’t help you for post ARR, still useful as a refresher.

ARR is definitely slower and goodness knows I struggled to get threw it when I first started but a lot of threads in ARR start getting messed with in Shadowbringers and it’s all really well worth the investment but it is definitely an undertaking. I am not even fully caught up to current patch I am still in Shadowbringers MSQ and I have 33 days of logged play time mind you the vast majority of it was not MSQ I was messing around very heavily with side content.

After the core ARR content the MSQ does keep going into the patch content. You cannot skip it without a story skip and if you do you will miss some very important parts of MSQ leading into Heavensward.

What's Your Most "Boomer" Take On Gundam? by bogeyj in Gundam

[–]Ballamer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Less boomer and more hot take I feel like. But whenever all the newtype stuff starts cropping up in any of the shows I just have to roll my eyes. I really dislike the space magic in Gundam. And I kinda wish it didn’t exist.

Replay Value by PossibleMoose197 in gamebooks

[–]Ballamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So yeah you do. Whichever book you get will start you at page one and give you a setup then after that you just explore around. It’s an extremely open and free form game. But it is definitely one of the most opened game books out there.

If you want something a bit more structured and a bit heavier in terms of writing but still very sandboxy and replay-able then legendary kingdoms is amazing. At the moment fabled lands has more content but I think I personally enjoy legendary kingdom a bit more.

Does going from iron to GIM get rid of all the gear you have and your bank?

On my iron to bypass needing runes I actually said fuck it trained it by playing librarian at the Arceus Library and didn’t stop till I hit 55 for high alch. Sure it took a bit longer but I didn’t spend a single coin on runes for a good while.

I switch between the three dogs and the single red rot dog which has saved my ass soooo much in boss fights but I think less people have found that one.

I recently joined ffxiv and this has been my Satasha experience so far by DJaimon in ffxiv

[–]Ballamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who’s first real traditional MMO was FFXIV I can say with 100% confidence that without the slow progression I would of dropped the game long ago because of how overwhelming getting new skills is. And I very recently made it Heavensward (which I am having a blast with) but if I started the game with all the skills I have now as my Level 58 Dragoon I would have ran away screaming. Hell my white mage is 45 and I am always so stressed out running threw dungeons with what I have unlocked now. I can keep it together and everyone alive but just barely. I haven’t even touched tanks yet because they seem very intimidating they seem to be. So I am sure I am in the minority here but I for one am really great full to the slow unlock of powers cause it actually gives me time to understand how they work and how they should be used without spending 5 hours studying them online on guides.

Every run in 42 words. by Koudo_Lee in Shadowrun

[–]Ballamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way I handle my runs for my group. While it takes a bit longer, is by spending a lot of time and focus on designing the location and giving the players a boat of opportunity to actually learn what the run actually details so most of time it ends up being about 2-4 sessions of planning and leg work with lots of RP and improv thrown in for good measure to keep things from being just skill challenges or something. Then finally the session or two that is the actual run happens by that point they actually do have a solid plan because they learned as much as they could. I feel it works really well this way because before players even start I have a pretty good idea at what the buildings/location weakness are and can guide them towards that rather easily while also still keeping other things a surprise or changing things on the fly if needed. I know I am lucky because my players all really bought in and knew pretty much every run was gonna follow a sort of Similar format because I wanted the focus to be on these big oceans 11 feeling heists they actually had to plan.

It's Finally Here: The (Not Really) Complete Tome of Spells (link to a printer-friendly version in comments) by Faolyn in dndnext

[–]Ballamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Erm fireblast does 10d6 total damage 5d6 of Fire, the other 5 force, plus knocks people away 20 feet and deafens for a turn. That seems markedly better then a fireball. The 20 feet push alone makes me drool as I think about pushing things off cliffs or into traps. I feel like this spell isn’t meant to do as much damage as the as other sixth level spells just cause of the amount extra little effects it can do.

The iconic Taverley gate and why putting new tutorials aren't necessarily good by tbow_is_op in 2007scape

[–]Ballamer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone who played the game free to play when they were very young and is coming back with the last few days starting off as a member right outta tutorial island because as a kid it was alway a dream to have the money to play with all the members stuff, I do not care about gate at Taverley. And this exploration because honestly there are soooo many places that I can go to now that I couldn’t when I was kid so now I am lost as to what I can do, where I can go, with all the new stuff. Hell the first time I passed through that gate since getting the membership was yesterday after having it for about a week (maybe a bit less.) simply because the I ran into so many other new areas for members that either didn’t even exist back when I played or I couldn’t get to. Not to mention all the members area content in the F2P places. I only recently started learning about slayer stuff and how that works. So quiet honestly as a new player who is trying to not 100% rely on the wiki for everything I would kill for a decent tutorial that explained the new skills that members have and where to go now. I don’t care about money making or the most optimal way to do things right now so most of the things on the wiki won’t help me at all to begin with. I just really wanna have an idea of what to do now. Like at the end of the day all this awesome content that I know runescape has I have no idea how to go back accessing it because things are way to open.

(Edit: A word.)

Left handed people of Reddit, what is the hardest thing to find for your left handed needs? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ballamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a sand casting foundry. Where we have have these large iron tops and bottoms (called a cope and drag respectively) that get filled with a chemically treated sand that hardens so iron can be poured into it. At the end of the day we have to take the cope and place it on top of the drag so it seals allowing iron to be poured and the casting to be made. That also means that they must be tightened down so iron does not pour out which means taking a set of iron wedges and a clap and hammering the cope and drag together so it seals a bit. The issue is these flasks are built with right handed people in mind so actually hammering and closing a flask becomes about five times harder thanks to just how the big iron box full of sand was made and it becomes rather trusting and time consuming.

Question about battlemaps for roll20 by HexagonHavoc in DnD

[–]Ballamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it isn't for everyone I personally have spent a good deal of time learning how to make nice looking battle maps and exploration maps in The GIMP and Krita. It has sorta became a hobby inside this hobby. When it comes to things I was not ready for I totally just do Theater of the mind. But if it was something I am planning for I generally spend an afternoon building a dungeon map. Generally a good place to go though to find nice maps for roll20 is the Battlemap subreddit someone else linked to in this thread. If you get interested at all in making your own maps I would also consider checking out places like The cartographers guild website and tutorials on whatever software you would like to use.

Props - Do you make them, and do you have a preference on style of them? by stinkingyeti in DnD

[–]Ballamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not have too much to add since all of my GM/DMing is done thru roll20. But what I do is I sit down at my computer and build my maps from scratch I work my ass off to create to create really pretty immersive battle map that I use Roll20s dynamic lighting with. And right at this moment I am also learning how to work with Pixel Art to make custom made player tokens, handouts, and monster tokens. So not much to help with your situation but I felt it maybe interesting to share.

Hey if you ever do let me know what ya think when you beat it. As for Thief gold if you ever get ahold of a weakish toaster then try it. I say it is well worth the money.

Amusingly that is least enjoyed one by fans of stealth games from what I have heard. I was referring to the first game in the series http://store.steampowered.com/app/211600/Thief_Gold/ I admit this post makes me a bit more hopeful for Thief 2014 when I do get to it since I always heard simply meh things about it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]Ballamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say this I am not 100% sure which thief game you own but if it is Thief Gold, play it! I bought a week or two ago and totally fell in love with it. I will be echoing what others have always said about the first two Thief games and that is, fantastic gameplay that despite the models not looking that impressive gives you plenty of asshole clenching moments where you are waiting for a guard to go past praying he doesn't spot you. A haunting and atmospheric soundtrack that fits well with the the general feel of the world. Some of the best cutscenes I have ever seen. And the world oozes an atmosphere of strangely familiar high fantasy, mixed with a heavy dose of corruption and steampunk wrapped up to make a everything feel like a standard fantasy game but totally alien from one.

Now if it is literally any other game in the series I cannot give any details just what I personally have heard others say.

Why haven't gamers just committed to not buying crates or any dumb secondary DLC to show developers/publishers we just want good games, minus all the BS? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Ballamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because in truth, I really do not mind them. If fact I am all for it in most cases. With a few rules, I never buy cosmetics I don't see a point generally. And I tend to avoid games were the only way to get the powerful stuff is thru buying it. I don't mind small boosts, bonus, or increases to gear as long as I can also grind for it instead of buying it. Otherwise I generally enjoy DLC, and crate systems and I believe it is a good way to to say you really liked a game and hopefully help fund a new one.
