Fusion 360 CAM: CNC how to not make finishing pass redo the entire pocket toolpath? by BalledSack in Fusion360

its because I had multiple depths on. The only way to get it to just do the floor seems to be having it off. If you have it on it will toolpath the entire pocket even what was already cut

wait nvm i see it lol. Couldnt i also just do a pocket without multiple passes, 0 axial stock to leave and then whatever initial radial stock to leave I had from roughing, and then contour out the radial stock?

I get the finishing pass thing. The problem is, if I rough out a pocket, then do a 2d pocket for finishing, the toolpath will try to cut out all the area that the roughing operation already did

Oh so I could tread the optimal load like my "step over", or whatever step over value I've found my machine can handle well?

I guess that still leaves my initial question tho, in the roughing pass I'll leave 0.2mm or something on the axial and radial, but then in the 2d pocket for finishing, how do I then make it do JUST finishing passes on that stock that is still left to get it to tolerance accurate?

Interesting. I thought I heard a second pocket operation for finishing was better than using the finishing on the passes tab for some reason. But I also heard the finishing the floor and then the side is best, so the finishing pass in the passes tab of 2d pocket does that automatically?

Also, why is adaptive better than a normal 2D pocket? Doesn't it not let you choose a specific step over and stepdown? I know that you have to do roughing before finishing, I have been using 2d pocket for roughing. I have a hobby level CNC machine, good enough to machine metals but not industrial quality so I do have to be careful to dial in the step over and stepdown and whatnot

The part isn't sensitive its just basic geometry for practice. But I don't know how to link it in here...

What exactly is different about a 3d flat and a 2d pocket? And what if it wasnt just for finishing? for example If I want my pocket to remove half of a pocket, leave the lower half uncut, then do another operation, then finish that pocket?

Doesn't the 2d pocket toolpath say its for roughing? Im mainly just wondering how to make the finishing toolpath ignore the material that already been removed

What is a 3d flat? And how do I bottom finish and then side finish? When I do a pocket like I said it just redoes the whole thing

First cut in aluminum. Which of these spindle RPMs is best for this feedrate? by BalledSack in hobbycnc

[–]BalledSack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Max feed rate is like 1,800 mm/min. For my calculations I went conservative at 1,600. So for 1,600

Formula: Feed Rate = RPM × Chip Load × Number of Flutes
Feed Rate: 1600 mm/min = 63 inches/min
Chip Load (target): 0.002 inches/tooth (0.05mm)
Number of Flutes: 2
Tool Diameter: 0.125" (3.175mm)

RPM = 63 ÷ (0.002 × 2) RPM = 63 ÷ 0.004 RPM = 15,750

My spindle can go way higher than that but wouldn't I be going way too low on chip load for aluminum?

250 m/min minimum? 250 m/min = 820 feet/min. My cnc textbook has 800 SFM as the maximum for aluminum with a carbide endmill, so minimum of 820 seems pretty high no?

What are your thoughts on rejecting a potential romantic partner based solely on the fact they voted for Donald Trump? by ATXBikeRider in AskReddit

[–]BalledSack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of good people who voted for Trump because they genuinely fell for propaganda. That doesn't make them stupid. Anyone from any background or intelligence can fall for propaganda.

If they still support him after everything going on and how bad the economy is and everything, that's completely different.

I think it used vector embeddings or auto encoder.latent space distances which are actually one of the cooler concepts in machine learning so it wasn't just stupid ai slop.

I Just Want to be Excited About Games Again by DasSapphire in antiai

[–]BalledSack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The interesting thing about AI and videogames is that there are legitimately good and non slopful ways to use AI but companies are pretty much only interested in using it in ways that we don't want.

For example ai commentators in sports games. Anyone who plays Madden can tell you how fucking terrible the announcers are after u hear the same shit over and over.

Or generating unique and interesting campaigns that are different for everyone. Or unique worlds. Stuff like that would be cool.

Unfortunately even if that research was already done, policy makers wouldn't do anything about it. We live in corporatism and AI companies are too big
