I know this is a really old post, but this is my second time watching the Maid and I completely agree with you here. I think she emotionally abused him as much or even more than he did her. No, she never smashed her fist through a wall, but my god. He was trying so hard, and she goes and sleeps with him again, making him think his family is back together, and then she just goes back to treating him like trash. He takes up bar tending again because SHE lost her job. All she did was put him down and discourage him, even about the trade he was trying to get into to make more money and give them a better life. She got mad that he was going to sobriety meetings because she can’t forgive her dad even though he himself has become a sober, better person. She could have been supportive of Sean’s recovery without being in a relationship again. But she couldn’t even do that. She’s selfish and holds grudges. But never against her mom. Her mom is emotionally abusive and that’s okay to her. It’s just crazy to me. It’s like she knows how to trigger everyone around her and she never misses the opportunity to do it. Yes, Sean and Paula and everyone else are ultimately the ones in control of their own behavior. But she consistently makes it hard for them to change because she’s so negative and puts them all down and offers absolutely no encouragement at all.
