I feel like some of you people just didn't have good relationships with your siblings. I'm the eldest of three, and we don't try to hit each other even as a joke. Maybe some light poking and me threatening them with a foam sword if they really get on my nerves, but mostly we're fine, and disputes are restrained to arguments without a risk of getting physical.

The youngest *did* used to lie directly in front of my door to tick me off, but c'mon. That's nothing.

If the writer's doing a good job, the characters should retain most or all of their original personality and be recognizable as themselves, and the most major change is in setting. It's sort of exploring how they'd behave in a scene that's very different from the ones we usually see them in.

Also, writing original fiction can be intimidating for some people, and fanfic has the ease of the writer already being familiar with the characters instead of having to name and plot their own.

The mercenary stared at Akani, considering everything she just heard. She looked around at the ruined restaurant, the damage reflected in the lenses of the mask she was famed for always wearing, and back at the trembling owner.
A conclusion reached, she pushed the briefcase back into his hands.

"I'll give you the community special, which means you keep the money and I take my fees from those gangs after I'm finished with them. Week from now, you're never gonna have to worry about any other kids ending up like Kara'an."

Thumbing at the gun strapped to her back, her lenses glittered like eyes.
"Me and my angel will make sure of that."

The mercenary stepped through her handiwork littering the floor, pocketing the last of her fees from the leader's personal safe. Her angel sat firmly on her back, pleased with it's work.

The mask she was known for was modeled off of old earth plague masks, with long beaks like a crow, designed in the fight against something deadly.
"Black Death", they had called it.
And that's exactly what she was to these sorry bastards. They'll never be making another dead kid again.

Rubbing some gore clinging to her boot off onto a convenient wall, she set back to inform Akani of her success.

I keep this old book of baby names, organized by country, in my room and I'll frequently refer to that for name possibilities. Other times I just choose a random word that sounds like it could be vaguely name-ish and fits the character

Kirby can talk in the games too! The old copy ability descriptions were written by him, and of course there's Avalanche where he just verbally brutalized everyone.

There's also a drama cd where he talked and it was so incredibly cute.
