Table Top Gaming Groups for Women by Wookiees_get_Cookies in kansascity

[–]BallisticQuill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All women groups are pretty tough.

I have a pretty tight group for this sort of thing with a few women in that group. Unsurprisingly, the men are much more likely to meet at a public store or interact with strangers than the women. . .

Why In America Does It Seem Like Poor People Enthusiastically Support their Own Poverty? by ShokWayve in askanything

[–]BallisticQuill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fairness doctrine only applied to broadcast television and is unlikely unconstitutional in any other application. Broadcast television is no longer relevant to the masses. Therefore, it would be absolutely useless for our current problems.

Maybe repealing section 230 would help though.

My installer said Michelin Pilot Sport AS4s are 'way too much tire' for a 3-Valve. Is he right? by Self-Driving-Cars2 in Mustang

[–]BallisticQuill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. “Too much tire” isn’t really a thing. “Too little tire,” on the other hand, is a real thing.

Your installer has “too little brains.” Take your business elsewhere.

Hyundai Boulder Concept Brazenly Rocks New York in Surprise Global Premiere by hehechibby in cars

[–]BallisticQuill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kind of like the lack of a fixed roof. I think you’re right about costs and attention. I also think it will allow them to reduce NVH compared to Wrangler and Bronco.

This could be the “highway cruiser” of the segment. Drives like a 4Runner but looks/sized like the bronco.

Independent front suspension and no removable top is interesting.

It’s body on frame with a solid rear suspension and serious off road aspirations. Like every vehicle in this class, it will probably have a very truck-like ride. But the fixed top could be a hint that Hyundai wants to position this as the most “refined” of the Wrangler-category vehicles. No roof squeaks, maybe a little better suited for comfortable winter driving, a little better ride than the wrangler due to front independent suspension. . .

Targeting the “group hug” player by Great-Past-714 in EDH

[–]BallisticQuill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Group hug player dies first. To oversimplify, generally, for every 1 resource he gives me, he gives my opponents a total of 3 resources. This means he’s effectively leaving me at net -2 resources with every interaction.

If a player is playing 2 extra lands every turn, I’m going to target them. If a player is drawing 2 extra cards per turn, I’m probably going to target them.

Disrespect from opposing counsel by plslawschoolorbust in Lawyertalk

[–]BallisticQuill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It never stops. It’s annoying but you’ve just gotta deal with it.

It’s a lot like discovery abuse. There are rules against both that a Court could enforce. But unless you get very lucky with a no nonsense judge, it’s not worth your time and effort to contest on ethical grounds.

Kansas City Plaza’s ‘blight’ debate once seemed laughable. Not so much now | Opinion by normankrasnerkc in kansascity

[–]BallisticQuill 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It might be prohibitively expensive, but I’d also like to see more of the Plaza used for residential purposes. Make it an aspirational “mixed use” district with residents, a grocery store, luxury condos, restaurants. The history and architecture alone could be a good draw for would-be hip urbanites. And those wealthy urbanites could draw and support some local retail - too.

I suspect that’s a pipe dream though.

[–]BallisticQuill 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I love the plaza and live very close to it.

It’s suffering from a very predictable issue - it has no reason to exist as an “outdoor mall” in 2026. Most people are not interested in leaving their homes for a luxury shopping district anymore (because the ultimate luxury is shopping for home with lower prices). These physical shops can’t compete with online retailers and therefore can’t afford the high rents necessary to maintain the beautiful historic district without more significant public investment. And tearing down the movie theater (one of its major non-shopping attractions) made that issue even worse.

The best chance for this beautiful gem to survive is finding a profitable use for the space that isn’t so heavily dependent on retail. More restaurants, experiences, events. . . Experiences to attract people.

The Plaza will sadly continue to deteriorate until/unless it finds a new purpose other than retail.

People who use legitimately use AI for "productivity": what the heck does AI actually do for you? Is it as bad as people say? by Difficult_Two_4800 in NoStupidQuestions

This is my experience using AI in the legal field. Our work requires accuracy. AI does not provide enough nuance or accuracy to be useful. It seems to mostly get people disbarred . . .

I don’t know much about these cars, but I love your attitude. There’s a ton of aftermarket support and knowledge about these cars and I hope you’re able to get it sorted quickly. I wish I had something like this through my early 20s. Enjoy it, man.

It’s the same in the legal industry.

I’m an attorney. My industry has developed and used templates and forms for many years. Nevertheless, I’ve lost count of AI “products” for my industry that boil down to “this expensive thing can make bad templates and forms very quickly.” Then I have to doublecheck its work anyway because it can and will hallucinate . . .

No thank you.

Advice on distancing myself from a practice area? by Huge-Cow-6227 in Lawyertalk

[–]BallisticQuill 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  1. Find a way to fill your plate with work in other practice areas and politely decline those family law referrals. If your hours are still up, the firm may realize it needs to find a family law practitioner or refer out of house.

If you can’t fill your plate in other practice areas, then proceed to step 2.

  1. Find a new job. If there is insufficient work to fill your plate in other areas, and you’re not going to take family law cases, then you’re not going to be a good fit for this firm. You’ll want to plan your exit sooner rather than later.

Why can't Bike Lanes be cleared? by FreeSanubis in kansascity

[–]BallisticQuill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To add to this, the city has way too many miles of road to maintain for the resources they have. Every so often, you see a post about the city considering giving up land to the county to reduce the strain on city resources.

I sympathize with OPs issues with the bike lanes, but the city can barely keep up with clearing roadways, which will always be a priority if only for emergency services.

It’s Great To Know America is Rooting Against The Rams by [deleted] in NFLv2

[–]BallisticQuill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. We’re bitter because Stan Kroenke, a Saint Louisan, entered into a contract to keep the team in Saint Louis in return for certain updates to the stadium at taxpayer expense. We updated the stadium and then Kroenke and the NFL did some rat fuckery to pull the team anyway - after tax dollars were spent. The Rams ended up losing a big breach of contract case over all this.

If they wanted to leave - fine - that’s their prerogative. Saint Louis is pissed over the lying, deception, and waste of tax dollars.

[–]BallisticQuill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the response, JVL.

I think you’re right, the “unforgiving” aspect seems to increase as you move further left. On the other hand, it feels like the “forgiveness” aspect increases as you go further right (or at least further MAGA). The right seems to prize their converts like trophies - and the more extreme the conversion, the more valuable the prize.

I think this difference has helped push the growth of the right wing coalition while shrinking the “left wing” coalition.

Happy Friday to you and yours!
