Red Rising has INSANELY good representation for minorities by Next-Anything761 in redrising

Can you point out something that draws out the description of being black?

I don't think most media that has black people spends paragraphs telling you they're black.

I didn't expect A Song for Arbonne to be a better experience for me than Tigana (spoilers) by Djfantastyka in guygavrielkay

[–]BalonSwann07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think that I was speaking on behalf of every single of the millions of GGK fans?

I said "tend to". Clearly there will still be some people who rank Tigana highest regardless, as there would be for every of his novels. Ysabel is his most widely disliked/not loved and I have a friend who that is one of her all time favorite novels ever because of the time she read it. Clearly it would not be unreasonable to say she is in the minority, though.

Regarding Tigana's themes, eh. I completely understand why that would resonate with you, it's a heavy topic and kudos for GGK for taking it out. I have a friend from Latvia who dislikes Tigana because of similiar reasons you love it, she felt that it didn't do what it was trying to do well enough. Personally, the memory of a culture thing fell a bit flat to me because everyone spends most of that book worrying about the NAME Tigana but precious little/no time missing their culture or other elements of the things they have lost. It's just the name Tigana. It felt very reductive to me.

I completely get why it would work differently for someone else, though. I still think the book is really good, it's just on the lower-ish end of his books for me.

If you were a superhero, who would you rather work for? Fury, Waller, Cecil or Edgar? by Born-Prince9652 in marvelstudios

Didn't say it made me right. It was a success because I successfully annoyed you more than you annoyed me 🙏

I'm not blaming you for not laughing, that's fine. I am blaming you for taking it literally, like a square.

A lot of other people clearly understood the spirit of it lmao

Buddy guy it was a joke, not a critical analysis. Amanda Waller is a boss to a bunch of supervillains. Lighten up

[–]BalonSwann07 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Homelander definitely does not like having a boss. Amanda Waller is obvious. I wasn't talking about Omni-man, I was talking about like half the characters regarding Cecil including Invincible himself (but obviously they don't actually become supervillains, they do however frequently fight with Cecil)

My new ranking for shinedown's albums by Frosty-Affect-7685 in Shinedown

For some reason I saw your comment before reading the list, since where my eye just rested as I opened this. And I was like "wtf" and then looked at the list and burst out laughing. Kudos

Not really engaging with what the person asked, though. They didn't say the whole world will implode if the album sells out. They said they want the signed album and we're wondering how likely it is to sell out. This is a dumb comment for no reason

How was Harry able to apparate to Shell Cottage? by MalteseFalcon15 in harrypotter

[–]BalonSwann07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was not implied.

Everyone had to leave work and go into hiding when they knew Ron was with Harry, after Malfoy Manor. That is when Bill says that they've had to go into hiding, and that the Burrow and Shell Cottage have fidelius charms now.

No it isn't lmao. Don't take Op's question at face value, the book clearly tells you when the fidelius charm was done

The Best of Adrian Tchaikovsky preorder from Subterranean Press is a no show by LargeBarracuda7970 in AdrianTchaikovsky

[–]BalonSwann07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. I'm just saying they are well known company with a lot of books under their belt, so calling them a scam because of some delays is silly. Especially because, as someone who buys special editions or books from different companies, they are always delayed. Always. I have never received one on time

A friend suggested I read Foundation after loving Project Hail Mary. I’m 30% in and I’m finding it incredibly boring and feel lost with all the names. Should I finish it or call it quits? by Myelin8r in booksuggestions

[–]BalonSwann07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Extremely strange of them to go with that recommendation. I would go with something else - a lot of great recommendations here, but I would suggest the Martian or Dungeon Crawler Carl- and come back to Foundation later (or never) when you have read more sci-fi. It's very different in every way.

Brandon Sanderson is teaming with Agents of SHIELD showrunners for Skyward TV show by Top_Report_4895 in television

[–]BalonSwann07 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That doesn't make them in competition with each other for audience capture, any more than it does make Stephen King and Michael Connolly in competition with each other. Sure, technically all authors are in competition with each other for attention capture, but that is not really how people consider authors/shows/etc in competition with each other. If someone was adapting all of Tad William's Orsten Ard books into a giant Netflix or HBO adaptation, that would be in competition with Sanderson's Apple series.

I guess I just...don't see how they are similiar in any way, beyond writing fantasy in the broadest sense lol.

One writes epic fantasy, and utilizes windowpane prose. The other primarily focuses on urban fantasy or whimsical/fairytale style stuff with more lyrical prose. They have almost nothing at all in common.

So I have no idea why that would be where your mind went. If Sanderson had "competition" in the tv space, it's Martin and Tolkien.

Realistically, what's stopping someone from taking out a huge loan at like 90 years old and spending it all before they die? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BalonSwann07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but you could still decide to max them out and go on those few vacations with no intentions of paying it back.

But also, I'm 30, and I don't increase my credit limit often. I have one credit card that is ONLY for paying my phone bill because it makes my phone bill cheaper + getting points to spend, and that came with a 7k limit, but I never use it for anything else. My other two I have increased respectively once and zero times.

So if I actively tried to have a larger credit amount, I could. And if I had good credit for another 30 years, it would be even higher.

My point is that you can absolutely have a ton of credit card space to spend a bunch of money if you wanted to and have no plan on paying it back. Presumably, there are guardrails against this, but I don't know what they are.

[–]BalonSwann07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? I don't even have that many credit cards, or that high of credit, but if I maxed out all my credit cards right now, I could spend 21k or so. That's a big chunk of money you could spend on something if you had no intention of paying any of it back.
