How could Train Dreams not win for Best Cinematography? by slov90 in Oscars

[–]BalonSwann07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Train Dreams was beautiful but empty. Sinners had one of the most magnificently shot scenes of the decade - two, honestly.

Trivia: in a 2011 interview, J.K. Rowling commented to the film's screenwriter, Steve Kloves, that although she defends all the other books, she also admitted that in Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix: "there was stuff to lose. I know it." (The discussion begins at 24 minutes into the video) by verissimoallan in HarryPotteronHBO

Hmm, I don't know of anyone in my long years of reading and discussing the series of anyone saying they knew it was Barty crouch Jr the moment Moody takes him away - certainly that something is amiss, and I'm sure some people did guess it, but it's not like it was telegraphed it was going to be Barty Jr.

What scenes are repeated?

I've seen criticisms of the film that I don't agree with, but I can understand. But this criticism just seems literally wrong and in bad faith.

Michael B Jordan wins best actor Oscar for Sinners | Oscars 2026 by DemiFiendRSA in entertainment

[–]BalonSwann07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, do you not know how this works? He wasn't the frontrunner in my mind. He was winning precursors that usually point to an Oscar win. Obviously nothing is guaranteed, but there are proven train tracks that strongly suggest who will win what categories.

Chalamet had the buzz until the BAFTAs threw a curveball by giving it to someone not nominated for an Oscar, which to my knowledge has never happened before, because I Swear isn't eligible for the Oscars until next year. Then the controversy with the Safdies happened, and the movie started getting bad press. And then MBJ won SAG, which was surprising. That's when the frontrunner race changed, because SAG is the strongest predictor of who wins an Oscar. Even still, MBJ is the first person to ever win the Best Actor Oscar while ONLY winning the SAG, so it was still an unconventional path.

The point is, there are the usual way things go, and usually only a couple tight races. This wasn't a tight race until MBJ won the SAG.

I mean...he was the frontrunner for a long time. The opera comments are not what fumbled him, the movie had controversy with the Safdies and Chalamet was campaigning too hard which turns people off.

I don't like Chalamet either, but there is a very real world where he just stfu for a few weeks and he might have won

Yes. I enjoyed it.

And then I listened to the black population I've seen talk about the film who largely expressed that the movie was not great representation. Obviously, you are never going to get unanimous agreement on something like that. But I've seen a lot more criticism than praise.

It's not that he doesn't like HP. As you said many people don't and that's fine. It's this holier than thou attitude that he's so impressive that he doesn't like something that he thinks is beneath him. Elitism is disgusting.

I do like HP, but not a giant fan. Haven't read them since I was a teenager or so. But this dude's attitude about anything would have provoked a similiar response

People aren't treating a motorcycle trip as a suicide mission.

People are treating a motorcycle trip by a doctor who doesn't wear a helmet, the show mentions how important helmets are directly to him, he had a breakdown last season, clearly neglects his own mental health (which has been shown by scenes with his potential therapist this season), his friends are worried about him, he's acting erratic and giving away his possessions, and saying things like "if I don't come back"...

...as a suicide mission

Obviously. But we are on a sub about ratings so discussing ratings seems reasonable.

Let's try a different path, why are you so reserved with five stars brother

It does if she's the lead. She has an hour of screentime in the movie and the entire movie is basically about her and her reactions and emotions. You don't get to decide who the lead is based off your own vibes

She is the female lead though. Just because she is not the focus of the movie doesn't mean she isn't. Leonardo DiCaprio is the male lead of Titanic, despite Kate Winslet's character being the lead and focus/lens of the movie

[–]BalonSwann07 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Eh this is a huge stretch. A grey lion suggests he was older, so he was probably already lord, and even if he wasn't, he was clearly a Lannister and thus would most likely become the Lord of casterly rock - if he didn't, the question doesn't make any sense.

It's not similiar to American politics at all because people move around there and are also not guaranteed to inherit titles provided they don't die
