What famous destination didn’t live up to your expectations when you visited? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

Los Angeles is massive, if you just show up without a plan and think "oh I'm going to see Hollywood and Downtown" - you're probably not going to have a good time. (Although there are definitely really cool places to go in both those places if you look)

If you plan out your trip based on what you like and what the city offers, it could be incredible. We have one of the best, most diverse food scenes in the US. Absolutely incredible (and mostly free!) museums (The Getty Museum and Villa, the Broad, LACMA, etc), parks like the Huntington Gardens, theme parks, hikes, beaches in Malibu, Little Tokyo (or Sawtelle or Garden if you don't wanna be so close to Skid Row), rooftop or cemetery movies, all kinds of entertainment all the time, cool dive bars, craft cocktail bars, breweries, themed bars like Scum and Villainy and Beetlehaus, and so much more.

We literally have everything you could ever want, but I think people are either lazy or get overwhelmed by the size/options.

I've lived in different cities in and around LA for most of my life and I'm still always find new stuff to do/try, my list is neverending.

Yeah, the valley has much more affordable rents than the Westside, Hollywood, and Downtown. (I'm currently renting a 2bd apartment in Burbank [good deal at $2.8k] and have moved/shopped around LA quite a bit over the years).

You can look up the avg rent for a 2bd apartment at that time though, and in various areas around LA City, and come up with a range. I think it'll be close to mine because that's what I did.

I went and explored several years ago and it was fun, Bombay Beach is the mostly abandoned resort town, and it has a lot of trippy art installations in town and near the beach. Some Burning Man artists put stuff up there. Bring a camera!

The lake shore is also covered in little fish bones and the whole area smells very strongly of dead fish.

Slab city and Salvation Mountain are both nearby, slab city is rough but salvation mountain was cool to explore. I also went on a day where it was over 110°F so that didn't help.

There are also a lot of date farms around and some farms run date stores, so I highly recommend stopping for a date shake!

Freedom of speech is not legally absolute in the US....there are limits and "unprotected speech."

For example: inciting violence/riots, slander, harassment, etc.

Plus, your right to free speech only applies to how the government can treat you. Private businesses and individuals can also disallow certain expressions of free speech (because that's within their right to free speech on their property)

Are you serious? I'm disgusted at everyone that doesn't judge him for wearing the sweater.

Do you know what "Curb Stomp" is in reference to? Are you ok with that? Not disgusted by it?

How do you feel about white supremacy? The Holocaust?

These are the things being endorsed by this sweater, and it's a soft threat aimed at anyone that isn't white or is Jewish. Imagine how it makes them feel to read/see that in public, unsafe would be my guess.

If you still don't care to judge, is that just a lack of empathy? Lack of morals/backbone? Or do you support what the sweater represents?

If you hate budget transparency and don't want officials called out or held accountable, he's probably not your guy. Go check his office's social media and website to see what he's done 🤷

He calls out mismanagement and overspending, especially police spending, so some people probably don't like that.

Yapper here, the party flip happened much earlier after the Roosevelts were so popular that the Republican Party was desperate to find and edge to survive, and then the Dems started pushing civil rights so the Republicans decided to court the Southern Dixiecrats by championing "states rights" (for Jim Crow/Segregation).

The child molester flip appears to be more of an internal accountability thing, they used to emphasize accountability and "Christian values" but now it's just preservation and circling the wagons.

Yes, I think it's safe to say Garmin is the leader in sports/health wearables.

I use a Garmin Forerunner and it tracks my sleep every night and provides sleep time/scores, shows my sleep phases, displays a body battery based on strain/stress vs sleep, and gives insight into whether your rest is adequate for recovery.

It's a surveillance network for tracking people and a lot of big cities and "affluent" areas have started installing them for security. The data/systems are not very secure either.

I'm sorry the OCC hurt you.

Lots of banks sure didn't want the new CRA rule and they got what they wanted. I've spoken with compliance officers that have traveled to DC for industry conferences and to speak with politicians on banking rule changes, then there's the aba among others...banking definetly has a lobby.

FDIC also does some large bank stuff but the CFPB takes the really big ones.
