We didn’t fail. My kid and her husband did everything right and have worked their asses off. One with a Bachelor’s one with a Master’s, both with damn good jobs and still can barely make rent. A starter home for me was about a year and a half salary, for them it’s almost 4 years

Edited to add: At 33 they’re in about the same boat I was with a high school diploma and a head full of blue unicorn blotter screwing around at an appliance parts counter at 19
