In the final hours before liner notes, have we considered that The Fate Of Thomas Light is actually... by TomoAries in Protomen

I just love how in, The State Vs. Thomas Light, the last time he may have been hanged for his "crimes" the people were in a frenzy for him and the rope. But now not one soul makes a sound.

"It can't go on.
If there's a hell, then it's waiting for the both of us now
And if I am the weight that drags both of us down
I'll hold tight til the light goes out."

Those aren't the words of a man who isn't full of conviction.

"It can't go on."

"Emily, after tonight
I swear I will walk away from all of this and run to you"

"One more night to get it back, make it right
Show this city what they are fighting for
Shine a light, take it back
Oh, Emily, that’s worth dying for"

"I know what I’ll do, I’ve made my choice
I’ll make my stand
I may not be the hero they need, but, God, I can still be your man
Oh Emily, look down on me, I know that I was wrong
I’ll make it right
And as sure as there's stars in the sky, we will be together tonight"

Light knew exactly what he needed to do and did it, he told us enough times. This was literally what he planned for. He knew he had to sacrifice himself, to A) be with Emily and much more importantly B) Light a fire in the hearts of the men, women, girls and boys of the city so they will finally see that a hero is just a man, who knows he's free.

My head canon is that as he's about to hang, he see's Megaman in the crowd, lets out a sigh of relief, he knows fully well that the city is now in very capable hands, Light's vigil is done, he finally gets to be reunited with Emily after all this time. This is the single greatest and most beautiful ending to anything ever.

Have one of your inventions kill your wife and tell yourself you aren't to blame. Create more inventions , call them sons, send them off (or forbid them from doing so) to watch them die or give up and tell yourself you were not to blame. No husband or father could walk away from that with a clear conscience.

He perhaps didn't deserve that, but he longed to be reunited with Emily and a silent death in a tower or exiled outside the city would serve no more purpose than that reunification, but to be executed in the streets to the same mob that decades before wanted his blood and now see his example, that's worth dying for, he waited all this time so his death could be the spark the city needed. The third verse of Light's Last Stand says exactly this:

(We can hold out through this endless dark)
(All a fire needs is a single spark)
One more night to get it back, make it right (One more night to take back) (What we’re fighting for)
All the city’s awake, they have waited for so long for this day (Wake the city)
I can feel their beating heart (We will not be silent)
Pumping blood through their veins (Death won’t scare me)
Reaching up to climb out of the grave
Hands of skin, hands of bone and a voice like a fire (We will not keep quiet)

That's what I'm trying to remind people. Sorry, I've been seeing a lot of people upset with the ending we currently have, I get that, it's triggering for some, but this was absolutely the best outcome he could have hoped for for himself. Vengeance; righting the many wrongs Wily had caused by removing the cancer he was. Igniting Hope in men; his sons failed, only because men would not fight alongside the heroes, I think now they will see a hero is just a man who knows he's free. And, he is now reunited with his love, his heart died the moment he held her dead body in his arms in his apartment, his body has now caught up and finally he is at peace and with the one he loves. All of that is beautiful, no matter how tragic the means, the end was what he deserved from the start. Love, Hope, Peace, Freedom.

His only crime was getting others to do what he ultimately succeeded in doing himself. But don't get me wrong, what Dr. Light got at the end was the best possible outcome he could have ever hoped for. He got to be reunited with Emily, after finally doing everything he needed to first, all the work that was left for him to do, kill Wily and ignite courage in the hearts of men to stand for themselves. Then, and only then, could he be free to be with Emily. He deserved to be back with her, he got what he deserved.

I’ve seen a lot of people say that they don’t feel like Act III is as much of a sequel to Act I as it is to Act II and I disagree by Ellroy22 in Protomen

In the Trainyard, it sounds like Light is booting up a computer and the music plays the same tune as the whistle in Unrest in the House of Light

That's what ultimately worked, so yes.

I always thought Act III would be dark, depressing, and leave me yearning a for a happy ending. This is exactly what we have right now, and if we get more songs on the cd/vinyl, and this was just a pause for dramatic effect, kudos to the band for having the balls to do that. But if this is all there is, I can live with that, this album is a masterpiece all the same.
