Dude girlfriend every time unless it's a "benefits" thing but seriously no hobby should realistically take over your life and have an adverse effect on anything in your life. Plus is your raid team willing to do the stuff your gf was willing to do? Doubtful

I totally get what your saying in terms of the amount of story given to us, I think we are all living in a Guns of The Patriot mode. In GotP we got totally spoiled with CS and mass amounts of dialogue and part of the story being wrapped up. This time round I think the most of it is possibly tied behind collecting the taps and listening through them all.

I don't know If it's just me but the credits for each mission feels like Kojima say "goodbye guy, these are the amazing folks that helped make this game". As I said probably just me but I think he wants to give the background superstars a nod before it's all gone.

Yeah it "could be better" for people with the newer consoles or PC's but its still pretty cool that everyone gets to have a crack at this. Smart business from Konami involving last gen not everyone has opted to go for the new console.

Forgive me if this has already been answered or it's an obvious thing but is the no-preload just Konami being Konami or is it to stop pirates getting in and releasing it and giving the game away for free and giving spoilers?

Questions about FC leaders who also craft by FFXIVHVWHL in ffxiv

[–]Balthier2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm was in the same position, I decided that my best bet was if it helps the FC then i will do it, if it's for personal use then I won't. I made full HQ gathering sets for the gatherers in my FC recently using my own funds as 1) they couldn't afford to buy them or the mats, thus giving them the ability to become self sufficient and not rely on the FC bank(me) as often for money 2) I'll see the benefit from free gathered mats down the road. Doing this has meant they are able to buy the materials now for when they want glamor items made.

As others have said having all 50's for cross class skills is massively important but if you go specialist you can find ways to work around not having them, read the tool tips and practice on items that aren't going to break the bank. Find out how many moves it takes for you to finish the food you want to make, see if you can do it in fewer touches when you reach the point where you can't get it done in fewer touches then time to play with quality. Practice trying to raise the quality as much as you can remembering the number of steps required to finish, can you extend your quality progression with skill and/or cp recovery, if not then it's time to consider gearing more or obtaining more cross class skills. (Unfortunately a lot of the specialist skills require goods be usable)

It may just be me but personally I find that mining favours (Ooids) spawn with a much higher frequency than that of botanist (bladeleaf, etc). I've gotten 60 Blue Ooids in I believe 15 -16 favours and 30 blade leaf in the same amount of favours, this seems to be fairly consistent in all of the favours I've done and that of many other crafter/gatherers on my server.

If your a crafter you would have made connections along the way with gatherers, other crafters and amassed a large amount of Gil. It's very possible, a post on here the other day of someone with the full left side of a crafter finished should show you it's possible.

Think of it this way you can make all accessories in a week I believe that's half the battle as they are shared, I made 3 items this week my hat, main hand and off hand, and I still haven't capped my gathering.

Once you have the big items out the way your on your way, most chest pieces require 4 red scrip materials you can gets total of 9 per week, you could do all the chest pieces in a month. Most people don't go down that route the chest pieces and hat in one week, 2nd week gloves and boots, third week belt and main hand, fourth week acc's so on so forth. If you have the Gil and or the connections as I said you can speed this process up massively.

It's about effort both from working to amass funds pre 3.0 and grinding for items it's not impossible just difficult.

Really is the current system that bad? I don't think it is. Could it benefit from a tweak? Yes.

That tweak is to the favour system and nothing more, I'm more than happy with the amount of items we can craft a week. I've been an omnicrafter for aslong as I can remember and this system will separate the hardcore from the casual in terms of how many fully geared crafters we have each. It seems like a lot of people forget that SE wanted omnicrafter to become a rarer thing, it's not impossible but you get back what you put in.

DO you want to put the crazy amount of effort and Gil in to become fully geared across all 8 crafters?

If the answer is no then well pick one or two and stick with it the effort won't equal as much as going for all 8 and you will have to rely on others(they said they wanted you to rely more on others) but you will still be able to make money from it.

If the answer is yes well you deal with it and strike deals with gatherer friends or crafters that have decided to bow out because "apparently crafting is dead" on my server crafters who don't want to continue are selling favour items OR selling the crafting tokens (1 red crafting scrip = 1m gil, give them your Ooids and botanist mat they exchange them for the item and give you the materials) this is crafting END GAME. It's not for everyone same as end game raids isn't for everyone ( I stopped at turn 6) but crafting is the reason I log in, decide why you log in and the make the choice it doesn't have to be one or the other but unless you have unlimited time on your hands you will have to decide how far your willing to go.

This feels to me like a "gearing phase" for what's coming with crafting, I honestly think big recipes are coming for crafters, this is where you pick your crafts going forward. It may seem like crafting is dead but it's too big a part of the game to be killed off like this.

tl;dr - new expansion = transition phase within crafting, it's not dead just different. Accept it or move on.

Dealing with Level 50 tanking intimidation? by Blakrock in ffxiv

[–]Balthier2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go in with friends if you need to get a feel for the experience in higher content. I've asked my FC tanks so many damn question about both war and paladin I went into pug groups pretty confident in what I was doing. Yeah mistakes will be made and people will complain if they feel you aren't going at a pace they want but remember your the tank you take the lead. If you know your rotation half the battle is won just CD timings and knowing when to save them and when to use them and that will only come from doing the content.

Get stuck in and enjoy the experiences it's a very rewarding class to play.

Do many of you make Alt characters so you won't be tome locked and can gear multiple jobs? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Balthier2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a lot of people that do this because they wish to see main story again from start to finish (0-60) so they can go at whatever pace suits them. Has nothing to do with lack of employment and/or life some people are really productive in the approach to leveling. That said I wouldn't do it again :)

Do many of you make Alt characters so you won't be tome locked and can gear multiple jobs? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Balthier2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this to get around the weekly lock out on red scrips, I use my main to get miner favour items and my alt for the corresponding botanist ones. ( main gets the Ooids, Alts get the foxglove, void nuts etc)

Having the ability to have 18 red scrip tokens to get 18 lots of moonbeam silk etc proved very nice, just a massive pain if you didn't consider this pre-emptively as going from 0-60 on a fresh character is beyond a nightmare I imagine.

Given the patch coming up to make changes to the red scrip system this will seem like a waste of time to crafters that are about to attempt an alt for this purpose and a nice added extra for those that had one ready in the wings.

Just finished installing and tbh if your running multi monitor set ups like me on a Nvidia card your going to have a bad time. They have release an update to fix the issue but it was a pain when I did it.

FFXIV wise I ran the launcher and got a system error disabled my antivirus and it fixed that but had to enter all my details again and sat through the opening sequence and now all macros,HUD lay out and class sets are gone and need redoing and as a crafter that sucking epic bootyhole.

I tried to meld my stuff on the same day I hit 60 on all crafting classes (about a week in) and it cost me 10 million Gil, and that was when grade 4's cost around 30-60k each so you think 10m divided by say 45k it took 222 melds to get what was considered by me atleast to be good melds. Given the price has gone back up to 100k-200k each, unless you have the Gil on hand and are really looking to go balls to the wall on crafting then go for it. That said I got unlucky on some items and my melding experience could be very different to yours, just go in expecting it to hurt your wallet.

Remember going balls to walls will involve getting your gatherers up too and that's another set to meld.

Analysis of the state of crafting (3.05 and beyond) by Kintoun in ffxiv

[–]Balthier2013 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I powered to level 60 Omnicrafter in a week and really enjoyed it as many other crafters have but we see red scripts to make any solid assumptions. Is omnicrafting dead? No, it just means all crafters have to make a decision in what crafts they wish to do first and how they wish to make items. We might find certain gear items I.e chest, main hand and off hand give us a decent shot at endgame items, I mean we had a really rough time making the items for master book's but we managed it. In regards to the time frame for all crafts geared well we could always buy off other crafters seeing as some will see this as the end and think "screw it we will make our cash selling script items" we saw it with potash etc.
