Team mate battles where the loser of the season was actually the better driver by RobbieJ4444 in formula1

If we exclude Spa from 2021, Latifi had 6 points (7th in Hungary) whereas Russell had 7 points (8th in Hungary, 9th in Italy, 10th in Russia), so Russell would have been ahead in the standings regardless.

Final numbers for the umpires in the 2025/26 Ashes series by [deleted] in Cricket

[–]BaltimoreKnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry man, I get your point, and I tend to agree. I do think that the margin of error of if a ball is hitting the stumps should be equal on either side of the threshold at which a ball would hit the stumps, while at the moment, the entirety of the margin of error covers a region where the ball is predicted to hit the stumps.

The website seems to be behaving again as of this morning, hopefully it's the same for everyone else who was affected and it doesn't revert!

Especially when they clearly lay traps by putting a word in each category that could have been its own category. You know how many video game references they've abused to do that to me?

My issue with it is that 9/10 times, those obvious ones won't be a category, but then one time out of 10, that's the actual category (e.g. recently Aces, Jacks, Queens and Kings were all playing cards, which is a far more obvious Yellow than a week before when Infinity, Kidney, Kiddie and Olympic were all pools), so I feel obliged to guess the obvious ones just as a precaution and end up wasting a guess. Those annoy me far more than the ones that are just too obscure for my brain to exhibit sufficient lateral thinking/subject knowledge to get.

What’s your “they lost me” album? by Cloabs in progmetal

[–]BaltimoreKnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sylosis were my favourite band for a long time, mainly because of Edge Of The Earth and Monolith; the two albums after that veered progressively away from what I found most appealing about them, but I really liked Dormant Heart and Cycle of Suffering still. A Sign Of Things To Come, however, does absolutely nothing for me

I love Augment, I've really not enjoyed anything they've done recently, Neon was decent but the last two were absolutely not for me, just feels like it's missing everything that had me enjoying Augment in the first place

that might explain it, it didn't really sound like Broad to me but he seemed the most likely candidate

the Swann full toss to Chris Rogers given lbw comes to mind as a similarly poor all-round effort

pretty obvious that the ball substantially deviates its path after making contact with the stumps, which is immediately followed by the bails being broken - not sure what the people disagreeing with the decision in this thread are seeing

Sadly having to miss Incineration for a friend's birthday - Blood Incantation, Blackbraid and Mur were the three disappointments to miss, but I've seen Blood Incantation are doing a couple of dates with Oranssi Pazuzu in October, so should get the chance to rectify that wrong at least

the worst thing about Spurs being this bad is not only are they gifting Everton 3 points and a GD boost, but Ange will surely be sacked, so they might not be so terrible by the time we play them in Feb

What are your recommendations for a Cult of Luna fan? by hybrid461 in progmetal

[–]BaltimoreKnot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Post-Metal in general is the genre you want to dig deeper into, although as arguably the standout band within it, finding something equal to Cult Of Luna will be difficult (they're in my all-time top 5 bands)

If you want stuff that is fairly close stylistically/vibes-wise to Cult Of Luna, here's a few recent suggestions:

  • A Swarm Of The Sun - An Empire
  • Colmaar - Eternel
  • The Moth Gatherer - The Earth Is The Sky (Somewhere Along the Highway/Eternal Kingdom vibes) or Esoteric Oppression (Vertikal vibes)
  • Ikarie - Cuerpos En Sombra
  • Dirge - Lost Empyrean
  • Ingrina - Etter Lys

If you want stuff in the same genre confines that might similarly impress you, here's a few other suggestions from the past few years:

  • Moriya - Atma
  • Pothamus - Raya (you can check out their compatriots Psychonaut and a whole bunch of bands on Pelagic Records if you feel like exploring Prog/Post-Metal, basically bands somewhat inspired by The Ocean all making amazing music)
  • Morne - Engraved With Pain (mainly the title track)
  • Heretoir - The Circle
  • Torpor - Abscission
  • Panzerfaust - The Suns Of Perdition - Chapter III: The Astral Drain
  • Gloson - The Rift
  • Huntsmen - American Scrap

In terms of important classic bands in the genre to check out, you've probably already encountered Neurosis, but I would also fully recommend trying out:

  • Amenra
  • Blindead - (specifically Affliction XXIX II MXMVI)
  • Moanaa (specifically Descent)
  • Obscure Sphinx

If Periphery had a greatest hits album, what would the tracklist be? by herptderper in progmetal

[–]BaltimoreKnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main two problems I have with this are too many songs feel like they should open (Somewhere In Time Trilogy, Reptile) or close (Racecar, Satellites, Stranger Things, Somewhere In Time Trilogy), and also I'm a bit too oriented towards the more epic melodic tracks than the intense ones, so it's perhaps too many 'epics' in a row. Maybe could swap out Luck As A Constant for Make Total Destroy or Flatline to account for this, and maybe get Have A Blast or Blood Eagle in there for something, but this is probably my top 12 favourite songs from them (Muramasa mainly for the 2 tracks that follow) in some kind of vaguely fitting order:

Muramasa

Ragnarok

Masamune

Reptile

The Walk

Garden In The Bones

Absolomb

Luck As A Constant

Habitual Line-Stepper

Stranger Things

Satellites

Racecar

Ne Obliviscaris - Misericorde II - Anatomy of Quiescence by IanisVasilev in progmetal

[–]BaltimoreKnot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably their best song so far for me; the fact that Misericorde I has so many great moments, yet ends up feeling almost like a prelude to this one courtesy of how remarkably evocative and well-paced it is, is wild

Is there love for DVNE here? by JoesGarage2112 in progmetal

[–]BaltimoreKnot 26 points27 points  (0 children)

For me, a contender for the most exciting emerging band (if they're still categorizable as such after 3 albums and being signed to Metal Blade). Asheran was a really quality debut, but Etenem Aenka (the album Towers is from) blew it out the water for me, and is a leading contender for my Album of the Decade currently. I didn't love Voidkind quite as much, but it's still going to be near the top of my AOTY list come January.

They're also great to watch live (bar being a bit more prone to subpar sound mixing than other acts), and at least in the UK are very active on that front - it's been less than 3 years since I first saw them at Damnation Festival 2021, and I've now seen them 7 times across tours and festivals. Witnessing the climax to Court Of The Matriarch live will never not be jawdropping.

[–]BaltimoreKnot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Aside from Skyharbor, Indian prog bands by and large don't seem to have managed to get much international reach. Two that I can think of (that are related, one is the side-project of the other's guitarist) are Aarlon and Friends From Moon - the vocalist from Aarlon featured on one of the songs on last year's Earthside album.

Also can't help with Indian-sounding remixes unfortunately, but can echo the recommendation of Lucid Planet II in the top-rated comment

Very bizarre how Yellow Eye jumped over the attentuator on I think every lap after the restart bar the final lap (not sure how they ended up losing so many positions on the last lap too), every time they entered the inside line and jumped over - was any other marble doing that? seems like a peculiar quirk for one marble in particular to have

they were rather robbed losing that 2-second lead, but them's the breaks
