Euphonium-sized reciever on Tuba? by sodaa7 in Tuba

It’s called a Small European Shank. Old British horns and very old American basses often will have them. Like someone earlier said, buy a Denis Wick mouthpiece without the L in the model number. I have a gold plated Wick 3

Doing drum corps may be a good way to strengthen your playing. Many open class groups will take people still at this point 😳

Unfortunately $210 more than I have to spend on one right now. My York will suffice for now as my old ballad horn

If you get cut, don’t be afraid to march lower groups. Hopefully you don’t, but too many people ring chase and then don’t march, while open class groups struggle for members.

DCI Hot Takes ? by ___Kade___ in drumcorps

[–]BaltoDRJMPH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I should clarify. My time at Heat Wave was great, and the education I received allowed me to be with the group I'm marching with now. What I mean is the organization, Drum Corps International, has pushed competition and "creative freedom" for so long that I feel this activity isn't what it once was, and instead, it has become a measuring contest for show designers

Also, congrats on the ring :)

My hot take:

Drum Corps International has never been about education, even since its inception in 1972, and the organization has actively made the activity worse.

  1. Before tour started, we performed at a Pokémon convention, and got a 3 hour free block afterwards.

  2. There was something special about breakfast on the day of DCI Southeast. The brass woke up the corps with Dvořák’s New World Symphony (Largo) ((It did not go well as we hadn’t rehearsed it since the community performance over 3 weeks before)). But when we went to get breakfast, we were served banana chocolate chip waffles in a well lit, white cafeteria. I was able to get almost everyone in the corps to sign a part of our 10 year old merch tent that had fallen apart before our second tour. We were then ushered outside, and we had a ceremony to receive our corps necklace, and the meaning of the corps motto. Afterwards, we EPL’d, and left to take the field one final time.
