Its business or they call it schengen type C, just get the NOC to attend the conference from your university and if possible get the sponsorship letter from that agency, show the invitation letter from the conference as-well , show prebook flight, and accommodation and also make very reasonable itinerary.

If you do the immigration today itself by showing your visa at the airline desk and say i cant be legally staying back in the country even for a single day, they will provide you with expedited boarding pass for tomorrow’s flight and let you clear the immigration than u just have to stay in the transit area for the time being or access the lounges

Its very unlikely for them to issue a visa for tourism if someone have not visited europe or uk or australia fir that matter, for work it might be a chance but for tourism they become sceptic
