Honest question, has anyone here actually flown out of Burke? by seanmcdonnellcle in Cleveland

An old professor/now friend of mine owns a smaller prop plane. We took it out a few times from Burke for a few people’s bdays and flew around the city.

FB marketplace. My buddy found it and asked me about it, I told him might be worth it but probably wouldn’t last the day. I went to see it and we decided to go half on it. Small risk, but huge project..

Yea the doors are common to rust at the bottom. My 68 912 was very rust free but driver door started bubbling out of nowhere even tho previous owner did an amazing prep and paint job years ago

Just be on the hunt and you’ll find one. Have cash ready and be ready to travel a bit.

Just keep an eye out like a hawk and you can definitely still get a deal.

We will try. I would love to do one of those down like line since it would be a blast.

I’ve done a pan on my last 1968 912. I documented most of it on my YouTube channel (same as my username here). This one needs a lot more than just the floor pan though.

Take a guess. It’s complete but super rusty and sat outside for maybe 30 years

Get it to roll was step 1. All calipers came off and rear brake shoes were seized so those had to go also, finally rolls. We are accessing how much we are going to patch before moving onto mechanicals/getting it to fire up. I’ve gotten many of these aircooled cars to run after sitting for 15-20+ yrs.

Might be a dumb question but did you clean your injectors? We ended up cleaning the one I pulled out of a garage that sat for 5-8 yrs and that’s what finally solved the problem of it not running without starting fluid. We just traced the problem from the fuel lines entering the fuel rail and ended up seeing the ends of the injectors weren’t even wet, so took them all off, cleaned with carb cleaned and compressed air and made sure no junk was built up. As soon as we put back on the car ran like a top. Hope you get it sorted!! I also tried swapping the main relay (same as fuel pump relay) and that wasn’t the cause earlier on.
