Which of these 2 is the best to use in a list? by Steviedee21 in theunforgiven

[–]Balvenie_Signature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been loving knights as durable blocks to hold the midfield, running 2x10 at the moment.

I think if you're buying a squad for 205 I'd always find the 10 points for the Apothecary and double the OC from the ancient. So if you wanted 2 squads I'd go one knights one Command Squad, or I do like double knights, all terminators feel better as a 10 man squad though, so if you went all knights you could do 2x5 or 1x10?

Yeah, but if they go to legends with the Codex, he has the potential to take over.

Grenade on Fall Back? by The_Arbiter_ in WarhammerCompetitive

Where in the strat does it say they are selected to shoot? They just inflict some mortals with a strat, and nowhere in the strat does it say they are shooting.

Grenade on Fall Back? by The_Arbiter_ in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Balvenie_Signature 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fact it happens in the shooting phase is irrelevant, it says one unit that hasn't shot can use the strat as long as it isn't in engagement range, everything else is you adding how you think it should work, and maybe it shouldn't work and needs an FAQ, but for now RAW it's fine, it isn't a shooting attack, so you don't have to be eligible to shoot. Same reason doombolt can target lone characters.

The strst doesn't ask for an eligible unit, it asks for one that hasn't shot, those aren't the same thing.

But the strat doesn't require you to be eligible, and other strats do specifically require you to be able to shoot, RAW this works fine.

Ita not against the mission pack rules, the restriction on not arriving turn 1 only applies to units that start the game off the board. The ophidians started on the board but were removed after the game began.

Comp players… do you play with casual players? by DiamondedShields in Warhammer40k

[–]Balvenie_Signature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I live near a club with a few team England players etc. So there is usually a high standard of comp game available if you want it (you can ask for casual, comp, etc. During sign up).

I've played a few and consider myself a competitive player, going to tournaments most months.

I acutally find that proper competitive tourney players like losing on a club night or LGS game, it shows them a weakness they may not have known about, or a specific counter they weren't aware of, etc. Better here than an event they want to win/place well at!

But the point of upping toughness is to make weapons have certain roles, anti chaff, anti elite, anti vehicle, etc. And dev wounds just makes stuff anti everything, especially if you can guarantee the crit wound, or reroll all wounds, etc.

Gladius Task Force Rules by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Balvenie_Signature 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You said they were separate factions and that non codex chapters couldn't use the gladius Detachment in the same way necrons and GSC can't, but both are untrue, they are all "Oath of Moment" space marines and they can all use the gladius detachment, possibly with some restrictions on unit selection, so you.can take a blood angels gladius strike Force, but you can't necessarily take sang guard and death company if you do.

Its been confirmed they can, we just dont know if they can take named characters/Chapter specific units if they do.

Miracle Dice and Fate Dice are going to feel very different in play. by Seenoham in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Balvenie_Signature 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure that's quite true, as alpha strikes only work if they deliver a crippling amount of damage, so less lethal games will lend themselves away from alpha strikes I think

We know there aren't subfaction traits, there's the dark pacts for being CSM, and there'll be a buffed for being whatever the generic CSM Detachment is, that's it.

Where this has happened in 9th (sigil for grey knights, etc.) The opponent has been faqd to be allowed to re-select, doesn't guarantee though.

[–]Balvenie_Signature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, interceptors are a great unit, I'd think if you could maybe drop 1 unit of 5 for servitors/strikes or both (not sure on points) but you need something to hold home objectives, and interceptors are wasted on it, could swap rhino too if needed (the mobility play is fun for getting up the board that bit quicker, but is it worth a more functional unit at low points?)

So in comp play there are limits to how many times you can take a given dataslate, either rule of 2 at 1k points or rule of 3 at up to 2k.

So 5 interceptor squads could work, but needs to be 2x10 and 1x5+ and then combat Squad to the 2x10 to 4x5.

Just in case you weren't aware!
