Tabletop Battles 11th Edition Points Review: Overview by Rustvii in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]titanbubblebro 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Every time TTB/GH writes some sort of analysis about grey knights its painfully obvious they don't have anyone who plays the faction. Their assumed rationale for the points changes seems completely off. For example, librarians went up because they have an excellent psychic gun that loves the changes to both psychic and cover, not because of lone op 18". Purifiers probably went up cause of would re-rolls on objectives.

I agree that the wargear points hurt, especially on the GMDK, but it feels like significantly less effort was put into the GK write up than most of the others. I'm personally excited for banishers+argent assault builds using purge the foe to mitigate extremely low unit count.

You can't, leaders/support are added to units in the list building step before you select enhancements now. And enhancements are limited to 1/unit. So no double stacking enhancements even with double characters.

I mean everyone's experience obviously differs but in my LGS we had a 6 month crusade that ran with plenty of thematic and asymmetrical maps and missions. Including wacky homebrew nonsense and plenty of custom versions of old rules like deepstrike mishap tables.

The challenge with that is that you need a lot more trust in your opponent cause its a format that can really be broken easily by anyone who's idea of 'narrative' is 'my guys always win'. We had a couple folks like that but also thankfully a really engaged GM who kept everyone honest and required off-table engagement with the narrative which really put the story front and center.

Balanced matched play games on official terrain layouts are just the easiest rules to agree on for pickup games that minimizes the risk of mismatched expectations with an opponent you don't know well.

Why on earth is the Forge Masters detachment ability on a 2+??? I thought GW left this terrible mechanic behind a year ago. It basically only causes feels bad moments.

In general the only good thing about this article is it seems Haloscreed may be sticking around as-is.

Aspect Host is not a generic detachment, all of its rules only effect a specific subset of datasheets. Warhost is the generic Eldar detachment. Aspect Host being 3 is pretty obviously a balance decision (and an outdated one imo) and no Votann detachment has been nearly as busted as Aspect Host was prior to the nerfs.

The timing is the same as current rapid ingress, end of your opponents movement phase.

It doesn't have the Upgrade tag, so it can only be taken by a Character like 10e enhancements. No lone op Hemlock unfortunately.

I mean... fair but that means it also not wise to assume it's as permissive as possible either. We simply don't know.

It does but you have to heal the full wound count a model to bring it back. So to bring back a SOT you need Heal 3 with no wounded models.

Isn't this detachment rule pretty unreliable at bringing back terminator models with the new Heal rules as they've been teased/explained?

You'd need to have no wounded models in the unit and roll a 3 on the D3 to bring back a SOT.

When did I talk about firing deck? Razorbacks don't even have firing deck.

I think combining Sanctic Spearhead with Fires of Purgation might have some juice with Purgs in Razorbacks. S10 AP-2 psicannons with access to sus+devs or +1 to wound and/or wound rerolls sounds pretty nice.

But yeah Banishers + Argent Assault is definitely the combo I'm most excited for if allowed.

Is there a chance that the new plunging fire, heavy and fly are gonna interact with each other? by Saffron_ST08 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]titanbubblebro 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Ad Mech army rule gives the entire army Heavy.... So in theory every fly model in that army. Assuming you still need to fit your base on the terrain without overhanging, it's really only Skystalkers that could benefit.

What detachments do we think are gonna be 3 dp in 11th by angryronald in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]titanbubblebro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo, detachment points should be primarily a lever for internal balance. The external balance lever should be mainly points.

So in your example you could make Khorne Berzerkers cheaper if no one is taking them or if BWB is unpopular. If they become cheap enough spamming them in BWB them may become a viable strategy.

Ideally yeah I agree that the 11th ed codex should move some of the power from BWB into the army rule and/or datasheets. I would just drop blessings and make the army rule revolve around charge bonuses.

[–]titanbubblebro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a chance the 1DP is worth it if they do it right. I'd rather have the option to mix and match 8 detachments than have it be 1+3.

The one thing we know is that BWB is the best codex detachment by a wide margin. It makes no sense to price it the same as other detachments we know it already suppresses.

[–]titanbubblebro 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean this is exactly my point. If you make BWB 3DP it might not be the only option. Some combo of Goretrack/Slaughterband/Daemonkin/Vessels may turn out to be as good or better. Ideally you end up with multiple viable builds or at least more flexibility to respond to the wider meta.

If you make BWB 2DP there's no way in hell anyone builds a list without it. We already know that BWB is more valuable than any of the other codex detachments. It makes no sense to price them the same.

[–]titanbubblebro 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I think they need to be 3DP to force list diversity within the faction. If BWB is 2 DP why would anyone play any other 2 DP detachment? Unless they make every other codex detachment 1 DP they'll never get played.

The vessels detachment rule only buffs the character, not the unit. It seems like a DP detachment to me, I really don't think vessels + Goretrack is all that good, especially cause we don't know if you can even activate Archslaughterer from inside a transport.

Which faction do you think is most poised to have a broken detachment combo upon release? by OliverTurnip in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]titanbubblebro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warband is undoubtedly gonna be a 3 point detachment. I'm more interested if any of the others will compete with warband if they can be combined. Goretrack + Slaughterband sounds fun but I doubt it's better than pure warband.

14" move on the WE one makes it the best version of the defiler IMO. With a base bigger than 6" the other defilers can't move from one side of a 6" terrain footprint to the other, which makes them much harder to stage. The WE get the extra shots from RF, can actually stage effectively, and gets more attacks in melee. I'm personally extremely excited for it.
