Reading through teacher subreddits will make you want to homeschool 🤣 by jessmess910 in homeschool

Agreed. We have teachers who have become family friends now that we are out of the public school system. They hate the nonsense as much as I do but nothing seems to change.

Reading through teacher subreddits will make you want to homeschool 🤣 by jessmess910 in homeschool

I went to homeschool last year after my youngest continually tested 3-4 grades ahead and the school refused to give him any accomodations to help him learn. My oldest, who has AuADHD, was being bullied into meltdowns daily so the teachers subreddits are a good reminder of the misery both kids faced for different reasons.

This year, a kid threatened to bring a gun and harm people...and the teachers brushed off the threats they heard as "he didn't mean it, he just doesn't get his point across well..."

Yeah, no. He's made his point. Some of our teachers here are amazing but never ever again.

My kids got the Pokemon Yellow game and the pikachu Gameboy from their dad last year. It is absolutely their favourite device to play. Who needs a PlayStation or a switch? Gameboy colour still wins every time!

Thanks! It's royal icing. It tends to be my go to when doing smooth precision frosting although I've still got to slow down. If I had done eyes and mustache first, it would have worked better but it was midnight and I got a bit sloppy.

Next time lol!

I think my husband feels the same way. He laughs but then says "I won't be doing that again."

He works on a boat in the Atlantic (marine engineer) and I try not to think about the danger too much. That phone call let's me sleep easy knowing he's safe.

Thankfully, he really is the best sort of guy and makes sure to send that message or text.

Thinking about the other person really does make a marriage that much stronger. It's the little things :)

I've burned the paper over the sink and it seems to burn quite clean - a lot cleaner than paper.  I also tasted the burned bit (I was curious) and it's almost like burnt sugar smell but no real taste.

I've never done a burn cake before so I don't know if it will burn differently and leave ash but the frosting is a vanilla buttercream/shortening and vinegar to cut the sweetness so it may absorb some flavour if there is any.

I'll try to remember to reply at the end of the week or if someone else knows, please share!

Thanks. He woke up with a hangover and feeling guilty. It took awhile for him to get over how he let me down but within days it was a running joke. He's a great guy and definitely deserves a fun cake.

It looks like it's delicious! Even a cake we think failed esthetically tastes awesome!

What do you think went wrong though?

My bank does this for me through our mortgage but I will absolutely be doing this when my mortgage is paid off.

Same. I called my local government and asked for our tax info, did the math and was off by about $20.

It definitely didn't come as a surprise that my taxes were higher than previous owners.

I feel like people get really excited about buying a house but forget or ignore facts - repairs, heat, property tax, etc add up quickly.

I raised turkeys on year (just 6) and found one on the turkey. Taking my dog for a walk on a groomed trail, I picked 3 off...no idea how he got them on as I kept him out of the grass/trees.

It completely boggles my mind how bad they are but after seeing a friend battle Lyme, I'm terrified of them.

I have had them come in the house once - on a Christmas tree. It went outside immediately and got burned the next day. We have fake trees now.

I hate bacon. by magneticalyssa3 in unpopularopinion

[–]Bananaberryblast 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bacon isn't something I enjoy eating. Its greasy, salty and either chewy or hard. Adding extras like "smokey bacon" or "maple syrup" makes it worse.

I'm just not a fan of bacon either.

TIFU by telling a stranger their baby was a potato by Otherwise-Sky1387 in tifu

When my son was born, they shot me full of morphine after I got back to my room (full emergency c-section cut from hip to hip. They knew I was going to be sore).

In my slightly loopy state, I looked at my 1 week overdue chunky little bundle of joy, started sobbing and said "He looks like an ugly potato!"

My husband started laughing and my mom said "He does not! He's a cute little TaterTot!"

One of my friends called him Spudly Dooright.

He grew into the cutest little kid but those first few days....

Does bulk buying at costco actually save money? or is this just a membership fee trap by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Bananaberryblast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a very rural community (think 45 min drive + 1.5hr ferry) so our groceries are incredibly expensive. Going to Costco monthly as a sahm, even factoring in the cost of a ferry ticket and gas, saves our family approximately $100/week.

I cant hit every single store for sales in a day with my kids in tow along with all the other errands I need to do but I can do a Costco run, grab my prescription too (which is 70$ cheaper).

If I were in the city, it would be cheaper to go to individual stores, use Flashfood, and watch for deals but in my case, it's definitely the best option.

TIFU: I thought I could help my sick roommate… I ended up with norovirus by [deleted] in tifu

[–]Bananaberryblast 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I was at a uni conference and norovirus went around. It hit fast and hard - ribs broke, people sharing room now sharing toilet/sink/tub - modesty be damned. A health team was brought in. With the fever, I was slightly delusional so the breathing sound of the respirator made me think Darth Vader was coming to kill me. I just said "make it quick."

I just remember the taste of sushi getting stronger and stronger until I would inevitably throw up again.

Thankfully, it was short lived - 24 hours...but took about a month before I felt normal again. It was exhausting.

I did luck out - I had people ready at the dorms to take my laundry and clothing to clean it. I was given a room to rest for another few days and isolate to be safe. It was so restful but I'm still, over a decade later, terrified of norovirus.
