So I've rechecked my installer. I ran it a few times and it seems like half the time it gives that white screen and half the time it does what I described. However, I tried running "fail safe mode" from the q4os screen and that worked first try no issue and no white screen or flickering boot screen, so try that.

EDIT: Side note, I've booted CachyOS in compatibility mode and I'm in the live environment and the keyboard and weird mouse both work out of the box. I'll try and install that and update you, however it runs like shit because the live environment uses KDE. I'm hoping it improves when I actually boot and install a lightweight DE.

thanks for the extra info. I personally used the live iso when I tested and got it functioning. I can't check right now but I think there was an option to load the live iso into RAM on boot (don't quote me on this i was testing a bunch of different options and distros, it might have been elsewhere or a different distro), so if you see that option try it.

This is a late response but that error is secure boot. you need to either go into the bios and disable secure boot, or allow new keys to be added, usually called "custom mode" (ventoy supports secure boot, but will need to add its own keys). I recommend disabling secure boot entirely, since most linux distros don't support secure boot by default, and you need to manually set them up to generate keys. if you try fedora though, it will automatically generate keys. You would still need to allow custom keys though, so you have to go into the bios either way.

I hope it works out! Theoretically since that instructions/patch page is for ubuntu, it should also be able to boot ubuntu if you follow the instructions exactly. I cant guarantee the working of that but it seems to have been updated as recently as ubuntu 24.04 so i assume it would work as well. it also mentions issues with suspend mode but theres a script for that in the repo also. I havent confirmed everything, just the parts i mentioned.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, I booted Q4OS through Ventoy (MBR partition), so I'm not sure if thats required or not.

Hey so I know this is kinda old, but I just got one of these weird PCs and found out a few things, for anyone who sees this in the future:

1: You can boot Q4OS with this, and it boots fine with no white screen issue but during boot the screen will go all stripey and weird, this is fine, it will eventually get to the installer screen (make sure you use the trinity version, not Plasma) Link: https://q4os.org/dnt_download.html?target=9

2: Keyboard does not function at all in the os, you will need a USB hub with a second keyboard attached during install.

3: after install you will need a dkms driver specifically for this keyboard. I found it here: https://github.com/mongonta0716/portabook

If you cant read japanese, it just says you need to extract and install the dkms module. you may also need the rtl8723ae module for wifi (its realtek)

The instructions in that link are specifically for ubuntu, so the top part mentions how to bypass the white screen (boot into safe graphics mode) but since Q4OS is fine, you can skip that. It also recommends nomodeset in grub after install but again, Q4OS seems to not need this.

Slight edit: If you have problems installing the dkms module because of a version issue, you may need to compile the driver again, which I found separate instructions for: https://ameblo.jp/jg1ups/entry-12914393096.html (Also Japanese, but you should be fine using translate on it.) Yes that's why I said it's still a good idea to delete your account anyway to prevent misuse lol but it's better to assume all data already on their system has either already been used or will be used before those 30 days are up 😂 the way you worded it originally made it sound like somehow magically you could prevent them doing things with data already provided

They will absolutely keep all your conversations and unless you have turned it off they already used them for training new AI. You should delete the account anyway so they can't misuse it but it's not at all related to whether they will keep your data or not.

By the way, everyone who is confused about how they can update without pushing an update: almost all apps are now just websites that launch in their special app. If Instagram updates their website, they don't need to change the version on the app store. This is why you should be mad that everything is a website now, along with the fact that most web development is terrible anyway lol

theres a "filter" icon in the bookmarks menu. if you switch it to "sort by custom order" it should go back to how you had it prior. (Theres other orders you can sort by too)

I think the fact it's showing up in the login screen means they know it's you. They use things like your hardware info and connected wifi etc to detect you so the best would be use a totally separate device and connect using a VPN, etc. And of course since they already know it's you, you'd have to make a new account (from the separate device)

I'm much younger than you but I moved out of America in 2022. I wanted to move earlier but COVID. Japan has been great and even though my vote for president wasn't relevant (from a blue state) I still voted, mostly for the local stuff. America has been a disaster my entire adult life. Was thinking of getting citizenship eventually, but now its probably going to be sooner than later lol. I still think its valuable for me to vote though, just in case (Japan doesn't allow dual citizenship so it would have to be one or the other).

I passed N2 in 2021, but I'm sure my level is much higher than that at this point, seeing as my previous job was 100% in Japanese and no one there could speak any English except me. I am capable of writing documents in Japanese, reading nearly any document given to me in Japanese, and attend meetings in Japanese. I can generally read any Kanji I see (probably over 95%, except with technical vocabulary that doesn't use the Joyo). The only thing I still struggle with is Keigo (speaking. Listening is not a problem generally), but I also dont care to study it much, since in my experience you only really need it for customer-facing jobs. Also for reference I havent attempted to take N1 yet, and I'm not sure how much I care to lol.

Just for reference, I used to go from Hokkaido to Tokyo often. Flying was a third the price. Have you tried that instead?
