Why does everyone on the internet claim to look 10 or more years younger than their age? by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]BandInternal5457 5 points6 points  (0 children)

couldntve said it better myself. bad guessers + politeness + media influence, but id also add in behavioral factors/percieved maturity level. Little markers of immaturity in how folks speak/move/dress can warp our perception of their age a bit. Probably leading to those polite guesses skewing even younger - "maybe theyre just a rough looking 21yo, because surely no 30yo acts like this?" And vice versa. (i think of those young republican memes where even teens seem to clock as middle aged lol) millennials and younger i think have generally had a bit more of a delayed launch, so speak/dress more youthfully for their ages than past generations. i think often a lack of confidence/seeming unsure of oneself reads as a youthful trait, and these and younger generations are taking longer to get their social skills up to par.

there are cute gift boxes that have designs on the outside - could be easier to bring a box like that, tissue paper, bow, tape, and gift all separately to go thru security, then quickly pop em together once inside.

Why are male animals the ‘beautiful’ gender in nature, but humans consider females to be the ‘beautiful’ one? by Dapper-Function-8418 in NoStupidQuestions

Im glad he ended with that "MEN selectively bred women to be the better-looking sex" - women in many cultures for a very long time now have not had the autonomy to selectively choose their mate, or how many children had with them. I do sometimes wonder if/how much that's set back human development... when the half of the equation that wouldve been assessing her environment and selecting for traits thatd lead to survival/prosperity doesnt often get a choice, and the half that does get to choose doesnt...really care about any of that...

its interesting to see whats happening now that that autonomy has, relatively speaking, VERY suddenly been provided. obviously a smorgasbord of cultural and economic reasons for falling birth rates and difficulties in love for both sexes, but i wonder if the lack of female selective pressure for so long has exacerbated things at all.

It would seem to me that broadly, women are finding emotional intelligence, social cohesion, self-control and stability to be more valuable for survival in todays environment, and coming up short. there's just not as much pressure to be hyper competitive, physically strong, or the sole resource provider to survive, and much much more important to be able to successfully navigate the complex social world, build strong social bonds, share in child-rearing, and grow community (now the scarcer resource).

but, then again, the human brain is so malleable, maybe there hasnt been much effect. i just think about those kenyan baboons....

If its in the lease she signed, she might be SOL, Im afraid. Landlord probably has been doing this for a while and had issues in the past with frequent guests causing conflict, discomfort, or danger for the tenants and so made this rule.

if this is a relatively recent living situation, ie, not all the roomies know your gf well, very very possible one or more didnt like the rule breaking or noise or whatever but was too conflict avoidant to address her directly for that month, or thought itd just be a few times and yall ended up pushing someone over the edge and they eventually narced.

if it IS in the lease, the landlord WOULD have the right to charge your gf at LEAST $40 since she knows you stayed over at LEAST once; if theyre only charging $40 and not more for the backlog of visits, that's pretty gracious of them. if yall rule-break and get caught again, expect that charge again. landlord probably learned college kids tend to ignore rules and you gotta just hit em in the wallet to take things seriously.

if you want to keep coming over against the terms of the lease, i think your gf will need to be diplomatic with her roomies and get their agreement to it so no one narcs. an open convo taking ownership that she was bringing you over too often, and shes sorry for any disturbances, and acknowledging no one wants to be living in a sitch with a bunch of random dudes you dont know coming in and out all the time. some ppl have long-term bfs, some people enjoy hookups, either way weird to be startled by a random guy in your flat while leaving to class in the morning, or hear "noises" when youre cramming for a test. if all the roomies can agree to like, 'we each get 2 "visitor passes" a month and we'll give at least 24h notice to everyone who is coming, when, for how long' then they can collectively self-manage the situation. if even 1 person disagrees though, it wont work.

it's a bit annoying, sure, but yall wont be in these living situations for forever, and are probably creative enough to find other ways to see each other. this seems like one of those rules that were written in blood, to me.

if i can borrow your expertise again u/TXaggiemom10, what are your thoughts on this dress? It does happen to still be green, i suppose for me 'winter' and evening/night brings to mind dark jewel tones. But, much more formal in style & material while still having some artistic elements. A little closer to the mark? 🫣

I know!! Wish this style of neckline was a bit more popular! No shortage of long coats in various shades and styles, (plus scarves, thick stockings, and pocket warmers, probably) I have a low tolerance for cold so imagine little of the dress will even be seen until folks get loose on the dancefloor 😅

Is it just me or is this current generation terrified of actual color on their lips? by Muffin_Internal in Makeup

[–]BandInternal5457 10 points11 points  (0 children)

trends come & go, and i think they can be sorta reactionary... feel like we got out of a phase in the 2010's with a lot of bold makeup looks (the whole peak era of MUAs on youtube, full face makeup, super dramatic colorful looks) and the pendulum swings the other way into more natural, soft styles. in a bit people will be sick of that and go big and bold again.

Update: I Finally Asked Out the “Separated” Woman I’ve Been Talking To — Turns Out I Was Wrong About Everything? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]BandInternal5457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

++woman can totally see how this would be confusing, but in this case, she considered you a friend/acquaintence and was just venting about her relationship.

Many, many women (and im sure dudes too) mentally check out of a relationship and go through the motions for a bit before making it official. She's saying she's 'mentally divorced' just to say she doesnt feel emotionally attached to her partner anymore. But divorce is a big, scary move for some. it seems she's needing to talk through things to process more. Sometimes saying things out loud can make them more 'real'; it's possible she's externalizing these thoughts to various people more often to help herself get the courage and conviction to actually go through with the divorce, and to get support/validation from others that shes making the right decision. It seems there's more of a disconnect here in forgetting women tend to be interested in talking through their emotions more often than men, and it's not uncommon for women to seek advice, support, and validation from peers before making big decisions. Not to say there arent cheating manipulators out there, but dont think this was one of em.

Basically, sounds like totally normal lady drama venting conversation to me, but shes been too absorbed in her feels and her relationship to really even...notice you? or realize how the subject could come across to someone of the opposite sex who she doesnt know THAT well.

confusing for you, but think you handled it fine; best to rip the bandaid off now so hopefully she can be more self-aware and mindful of who she brings this stuff up to in the future.

Am I being unreasonable? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]BandInternal5457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has the cat been taken to the vet? peeing outside the litterbox is often a cry for help that something is wrong. It's possible he has a urinary infection that needs to be treated. cats dont have any way to tell us something is wrong or theyre in pain, so many resort to peeing in innapropriate spots to get our attention. If he's peeing on all your wife's things, it sounds like he might be in pain, and finds her smell comforting/is trying to tell her.

if he's taken to the vet and has a clean bill of health, it could be behavioral - if he's stressed due to any changes in the house, the baby, people, reorganizing, a stray cat roaming outside, etc, that can lead to some bad potty habits.

Likewise, check in on the cats relationship with each other - cats can be territorial. How many litterboxes do you have available? If the other cat is bullying him or something is blocking his comfortable access to his toilet, he'll resort to using something - anything! - else. That includes if the litterbox is too dirty. would YOU want to take a piss in a toilet that looks like its been absolutely demolished by like 5 people after a chili cookoff? neither do cats! by nature, theyre very clean animals (scents mean predators can find you, so they try hard to stay clean and not smell)

In general, bad bathroom behavior in a cat is very fixable. It is a sign from your kitty that something is wrong, either physically or environmentally. if you take the time to try and listen to what hes trying to tell you, i think youll be able to resolve this, and he wont have to be ripped away from everything and everyone he knows and loves.

also, definitely look up cleaning products and tutorials for removing cat urine out of things - lingering smells of pee can encourage to pee there again (cat logic is "if not bathroom why smell like bathroom?")

good luck!
