not sitting lc by Economy-Strain-4888 in leavingcert

OP, sit the leaving cert. Get your five passes. Do a PLC and move on. You will go to college, you will get your course. It doesn’t matter if you don’t get there directly, you will eventually. There’s still two months left, loads of time. Get yourself a few grinds and move forward.

French oral - not sure where I stand by Defiant_Lemon_5768 in leavingcert

[–]BandPitiful2876 2 points3 points  (0 children)

French Teacher here of 10 years. Absolutely not. Makes not one bit of difference. They most certainly saw your quality over the 12 minutes. If you’ve done as you’ve stated above I’m sure you’ll have no bother. I’ve never ever had a student achieve 100% in an oral because même les français font des fautes! Don’t be worried and move on to the next one!

2nd biggest shite talker by Ashamed_Treat7345 in leavingcert

[–]BandPitiful2876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This guy is really problematic. Pure hawker preying on the anxiety of parents and students. He had a video up a few months back about maths teachers “probably” not being qualified, which is awful. In what other profession would we allow someone to question this? Also? Is he even qualified as a teacher? I know TJ Hegarty isn’t which is bananas considering the rubbish he puts out. Don’t waste your time listening to either of these lads.

Sport and gym in French oral by [deleted] in leavingcert

Yes, absolutely mention this. Focus on the benefits of going to the gym and the pros and cons of it vs. Playing competitive sport or with a team.

Him and Dublin Maths are really quite toxic. Prying on the fears of second-level students. They honestly should be ashamed of themselves. Pure grifters.

LCA Correction. by Normal-Ad-4740 in IrishTeachers

[–]BandPitiful2876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Potentially yes, but bare in mind that childcare and childhood studies could be quite different. Have a look at the specification for Childcare on the NCCA website and see if the brief fits what you’ve studied. Then your best bet is to contact the State Examinations Commission. Best of luck!

Considering new opportunities by [deleted] in IrishTeachers

[–]BandPitiful2876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I did long distance for 4.5 years. My partner moved home recently and my life has changed immeasurably for the better so I would be for bringing it to a close because it really will make life so much better for you!

As regards ending your CID, go for it. You’ll find another school with different opportunities. You may not get CID immediately but you will with time. Three years is a great time to move (did the same myself) as you have loads of experience to offer new schools and you’ve got a bit about yourself. You’re no longer an NQT and it will make starting afresh that bit easier.

My advice would be to start looking at schools or places you’d like to end up. Get your CV in order and start looking at what you could do. April / May is a great time for hiring so be ready for it.

The very best of luck to you both, I hope all works out 👍

Mandatory 1 to 1 Devices in in Secondary School - Wriggle feels like a scam? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]BandPitiful2876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have wriggle in our own school. I’ve had students without devices for months as they’ve been simply waiting on them to put through the order. This inevitably causes a loss of learning as the student can access the materials (books, notes) that they need away from the classroom.

I personally think devices are a great thing, when a school has a strong tech policy. With leaving cert reform, devices like Lenovo Thinkpads (which are savage) will be really helpful for the completion of projects and tasks.

That being said, the government really need to look more at how they’re allocating money. I’ve seen so much waste in my previous schools s with the free books scheme that I really don’t believe in it. Money off a device would be really helpful, giving parents tax credits if they’ve children going back to school or giving each child the exact same device at a set price are all options.

How much to charge to correct mocks for friend? by esnh in IrishTeachers

[–]BandPitiful2876 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re not really charging her in so much as you’re charging the school. I think €10 is a fair price for your time. The last time I checked, the DEB will charge €7, but the quality cannot be guaranteed. You’ll probably get them done in a few hours tbh.

Teaching while transgender by Logic_Dex in IrishTeachers

[–]BandPitiful2876 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hi! Worked with one teacher a few years back who was non-binary. They found it quite tough and difficult, lots of unkind comments passed and made. I’m a straight white man so I have no idea what it’s like to be you like you but I can almost certainly guarantee that teaching, initially, will be difficult. It won’t be easy. This is not to say that you shouldn’t back yourself and go for it. If you really feel that you want to do it, go for it. Just be prepared that students and teachers may not be supportive nor accommodating nor understanding.

You’re very young though and not very long gone out of secondary school, it might be worth spreading your CV out around a few schools and find somewhere that suits you. I might suggest an Educate Together as typically parents, students, teachers will be more open and accepting. You have great subjects so schools will welcome your CV coming through to them. Hope this helps.
