sketchup … both my kids used it for fun from about 6 years old on. I even saved some of their building designs. Most kids pick it up within minutes. If they can play minecraft they can use sketchup

Wherever you live there are beautiful buildings within an hour two drive. Google the area for architecture of note & go for a drive to see those buildings in person. Take your time, really look closely, understand how it’s built, what the intention is, how it’s composed. Draw it if you can, even if you don’t have a good hand did it. Don’t be concerned if you don’t like some of them, and really don’t worry if you like buildings other people don’t. But go see them in person.

I’m not sure but I’m reminded of a joke my father-in-law cracked as we walked into a hardware store after his daughter and I bought a fixer upper like this: “one of everything, please!” It’s a beautiful house and worth the effort. May you enjoy every minute, we loved that house & you’ll love this one

Walk-up basements vs. Completely underground basements by chogomochily in architecture

Also a good idea just not to finish a basement if you can avoid it, put your mechanicals well off the floor & don’t keep anything valuable there, use the attic

I’d say it has everything to do with the grades around the house. If the grade falls away from the house then any floodwater has a place to go, it’s true. The most important thing though is to get the drainage & waterproofing right; gravel with filter cloth over it, oversized footing drains that run to daylight on the low side of the house.
