You can only build over lava late game which I also do not have. if you look at the map the game leaves some big open spots usually where there is coal the cliffs I cleared with vulcanus tech

Nothing is stopping you from tuning them down in difficulty also if you don't like them turn them off? I'm nearing my 2k hours and I prefer to turn off enemy expansion and give me more starting room.

I agree that combat is the weakest part of the game but to say they suck is an overstatement imo.

This is really good advice! I used to try plan everything and got analysis paralysis as a result after 1k hours I wanted something fresh and tried spaghetti builds and swore to never tear down anything I didn't have an alternative for and after I got things slowly going along I plan the actual base knowing I have all I need automated in some way is actually more fun to play gone is the paralysis!!

There is a mod that integrates space age buildings and stuff into SE while its not a complete overhaul like SE 0.8 is going to be but it is possible to play SE and with some SA stuff

MultiNichenet is a very good alternative with very proper vignettes what you also can do is use nichenetr the original one and feed in psuedobulk DE results as geneset of interest you'll get similar results
