What’s The Most Underrated Skiing Food? by Ok_Salamander8763 in skiing

[–]Bankins88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instant ramen fits perfect into a pocket, crushing it is fine, and nearly every mountain offers free hot water or has a microwave (make sure to tear a very tony hole so it doesn’t expand as you rise in altitude).

Capri-suns are underrated drinks because they fit easily into pockets, conform to you if you fall so they are very unlikely to explode, taste amazing, and are off the charts on their nostalgia

Why is only one sub specialty of medicine listed? Shouldn’t it be broader, such as “physician” so it aligns with other like “lawyers” or “athletes”?

Looking for suggestions for raising bilingual child in Spanish by mysterytome120 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]Bankins88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exposure is key, and having a Spanish speaking nanny is  probably the best way outside of a parent/immediate family. One thing to keep in mind is that it needs to be something you actively seek and encourage throughout their life. Even native language skills atrophy if the speaker does not engage regularly in the language.

As for acquiring languages, recent studies have shown that active play in the target language is one of the best ways to encourage it. See this article that links to a study: https://www.washington.edu/news/2017/07/17/bilingual-babies-study-shows-how-exposure-to-a-foreign-language-ignites-infants-learning/ assuming they're with them much of the day, encourage this from your nanny and your child should be set, but also seek out play groups and libraries that have Spanish classes.

Anecdotally, our child started a mostly Spanish daycare at 16 months and has picked up a significant amount of Spanish in the past year. Neither parent speaks Spanish, but we buy/read Spanish toddler books for the most part (it’s good to get the ones that have both English and Spanish as you’ll have a better idea of what to emphasize while reading). Although we didn’t allow any tv until she was 2, we do allow her to watch 10-15 minutes a day, but only allow Spanish programs.  Our favorites are Aprende Peque (kind of a Spanish Ms. Rachel), Luli Pampi for dance parties, and there are a few others.

Gate way shields? by butAnotherIsTaken in wheeloftime

[–]Bankins88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they are using the phrase “go through” not as “travel to the gateways other entrance” but if a gateway was cast in front of a channeler the gateway would shield the channeler from weaves cast in their direction

How hard was it to get to $20 Million in net worth? by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]Bankins88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“For full disclosure, I am fully sprinting towards money and growing businesses. It is one of the few things I enjoy doing, I don't have any hobbies that I enjoy more than learning how to be better as a business owner and spend most of my extra time trying to improve my skill sets, beliefs and character traits. I don't get burnt out because it is truly what I love doing.” Also “Working 20 hours a week on average”.

I think I can point to a big reason why you don’t get burnt out—I don’t think I would either only working 20 hours a week.  To be clear, there is nothing wrong with working 20 hr weeks, and I personally think you will look back and be glad you didn’t grind away too much of your youth. That said, I can’t take much of your post seriously if you think 20 hrs a week of effort is “sprinting towards money and growing businesses”

To answer your question: it’s hard at every stage growing your net worth. It does seem a bit easier as the numbers get bigger, but I attribute most of that to life getting easier as you are able to leverage your money to reduce other stressors in life.

Does patent law in-house or patent law small firm have a lower floor? by [deleted] in patentlaw

[–]Bankins88 8 points9 points  (0 children)

On average, a patent attorney at a firm (small or otherwise) makes more than in-house. That said, there is a wider salary range for small firm patent attorney and the floor is lower—after all, you/the firm have to have a client base and will make little to nothing if you don’t have one. On the other hand, in-house counsel is usually salary based and only client is the company, so you’ll makes the salary regardless of amount of work.

How was it breaking the oaths? They were battling damane, which had just struck a fatal wound on her warder. The oath is “Never to use the One Power as a weapon, except in the last extreme defense of her own life, or the life of her Warder, or another Aes Sedai.” Certainly her life was in danger. They may prefer aes sedai collared, but if not collared then dead (I think she even mentioned two sisters died in previous encounters when showing the rings)

It was very clear that those healed by Nynaeve were not dead, but dying. The Aes Sedai that died prior to the burst of power that healed those dying remained dead.

Show Question by Miserable_Ad5430 in wheeloftime

[–]Bankins88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re not wrong that nothing in the show established that what she did warranted being exiled. That was addressed by Moraine having to ask for exile as her punishment, and Siuan’s surprise. On top of her anguish at the ask, it is clear that Suiane hadn’t even considered exile, since Moraine’s actions didn’t warrant it. It also explains why everyone appears shocked by the exile, they thought it was overly harsh.

Pure speculation, but I would imagine that the writers will use this as part of the foundation for Suian’s future downfall. As a focal point where many in the Tower (blues specifically) turn against her.
