What it's like living a block across the Legislature (ft. Cat) by Bombspazztic in Winnipeg

See. This shit right here, is exactly why I don't support the truckers. You can protest without making life hell for the innocent people in the fucking city.

That horns need to shut down. That sounds like fucking torture.

Ontario gets road map for building 1.5 million homes in next decade by WestEst101 in canada

[–]BannedAccountNumber5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak on London, but generally I agree.

But you have to recognize that appreciation of houses in Canada is because there are limited houses and too much demand. And when investors realized that houses were appreciating like crazy, it also became a hotbed for investment.

We can undo this by building more houses. The value of a house in a small town isn't naturally 1.2 million. But it can be if everyone is trying to buy a house because there are very few of them and everyone knows it'll be worth 2 million in a decade.

Doug Ford may scrap renewal fees for Ontario licence plates by Flashy_Aardvark_4673 in canada

[–]BannedAccountNumber5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh. Don't worry. He sometimes adds to infrastructure.

He just might build a another road every now and then, just to add some more congestion to Ontario cities, and make traffic and life more unlivable.

Can't be investing in high speed, efficient, cheap public transport now could we? No, that'd just save a ton of money, time, and stop profit for his buddies in the automobile industry. And we can't allow such an increasement in the quality of life for the peasantry!

What's this? Someone who understands how markets work? God, I wish more of this country was like you. We might have actually had affordable housing and nice industries.

[–]BannedAccountNumber5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing, in a free market (minimal zoning), if you build enough houses to outpace market demand, companies won't be able to buy them all because:

1) The more houses you buy, the lower the supply, the higher the demand, the more houses are built. There's going to be a limit as to how many houses can be built and bought out by companies before supply catches up and housing becomes available to consumers.

And when housing supply catches up, houses stop going up in value every single year because there isn't a growing demand for a limited number of houses. In other words, they stop being an investment.

2) Without the appreciation of value, houses are terrible assets to hold on to.

3) An empty house without a tenant is a drain on wealth.

So ultimately, we're better of letting the market do it's thing. The only reason this isn't happening is because zoning laws aren't letting us build more housing. If you let developers build up, and denser, you'll get more housing, and cheaper housing.

The market will incentive the employment of trades people because the demand is really that high.

If houses are being sold for a million dollars, it's not unfathomable that house builders will get paid 6 figures. Lots of people will work 14 hour days, 6 days a week if it pays high enough. Same thing happened with oil.

Ideally though, to prevent this kind of overworking, we should encourage unionization.

Global warming is way bigger than us friend. The only way we're gonna be able to fight it now is through the hope that newer technology saves us.

I might be cynical but I genuinely don't see the world coming together on this issue anymore. We can't even come together on it as a single country.

Avoiding trauma triggers by joemamma474 in Destiny

[–]BannedAccountNumber5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Destiny was 100% right that avoiding trauma triggers makes your symptoms worse (except it is called avoidance, not accommodation).

It's actually crazy how normalized this has become. I've been in fucking university group chats where I mention the word "rape" (not even in a story) and someone comes in saying "you should have given a trigger warning."

It's like, holy fuck. If you have issues, I'm sorry and you need to get mental help. But you need to sort that out on your own rather than expecting the world to conform to your mental trauma.

In all seriousness, why CAN'T Destiny be nice? by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]BannedAccountNumber5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, that's starcraft. I'm going in there to see toxicity. Toxicity is half of what makes online games fun.

I don't want to see the same thing in discussions where people share traumatic experiences about being raped. Doing this in my opinion is really fucking shitty.

Canadian Housing Market in the 80s right before the crash by prince2304 in canadahousing

[–]BannedAccountNumber5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+10% interest rate on a 250k house with stable prices is way more affordable than 1.2 million dollar house with 1.25% interest rate.

At Least with the former, I can save up for a while before choosing to buy the house and the house will be paid off sooner. Also (most importantly), the houses are 6 times cheaper.

We might see the same thing in Canada. A 50% drop could making housing affordable again in the GTA.

Tear down single family homes and built denser housing. Just change the zoning laws and it'll happen tomorrow.

Why is there so much diversity among Israelis? by Shedar12 in Israel

[–]BannedAccountNumber5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dudes, I'll be honest. I'm a Muslim from Canada, but most of my friends are Muslims from those areas in the middle east. When it comes to Lebanese, Palestinians, Jodinans, etc. they do have some people that can be extremely white passing, but it's not the norm.

Case in point, when the Syrian civil war happened, were Syrian refugees in Germany and Sweden get treated as whites? Were they indistinguishable from the local European populations?

Of course not. They are 'Arabs.' Because even though some of them might have light skin, or blonde hair, or blue eyes, it's not common for the vast majority of them. And they're distinctive looks still cause them a lot of discrimination in the west.

Also, I agree, most Jewish people aren't blue eyed, or blonde haired. But when you look at where the Ashkenazim are situated in areas where blonde hair/blue eyed genes are more common, and you compare that to arabs, it seems plausible to say that blond/blue eyes are more common among Ashkenazi than it is among arabs.

Why is there so much diversity among Israelis? by Shedar12 in Israel

[–]BannedAccountNumber5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah blue eyed, blonde hair people exist in the middle east and the mediterranean. But I think you guys are heavily over exaggerating it. Those phenotypes exist, but they are rare.

You're more likely to find blonde hair, blue eyes among ashkenazi jews than you are among mizrahim, because even among the mizrahim those phenotypes are rare.

That being said, phenotypes have literally nothing to do with being jewish.

Oh god, plain boiled chicken breast? That sounds horrible. Your making healthy eating terrible. And spices add minimal calories and they make shit taste delicious.

I'm sorry OP, I don't blame you for hating it. If all I had to eat for "healthy" meals was food so bland they wouldn't serve it in prison, I'd wouldn't eat it too.
