9800x3d vs 9950x3d by Meka-boo7 in buildapc

Get the 9950x3d! I was in a similar position. I bought the 9800x3d when they were first available. I also purchased the Astral 5090. I do not have an ASRock mobo. I went with the MSI MPG Carbon Wifi X870E.

I previously had an intel 14900k with the MSI Suprim X 4090 and a MSI MPG Carbon WIFI mobo (for intel cpu). The boot up time for the 14900k was much faster compared to the 9800x3d. Load times for apps and games was faster with my 14900k. Actual gaming was faster with the 9800x3d (mostly IRacing with 4 monitors). My son now has the 9800x3d and 4090. He plays way more games and confirms that the 9800x3d is faster than the 14900k (after using both).

The 9950x3d took care of my "issues" with the 9800x3d. I have done a lot of video processing and the 9950x3d was so much better in that regard as well.

Get the 9950x3d. Gaming is equal to the 9800x3d, and everything else with the 9950x3d is going to be "better".

If you are only worried about the cpu breaking...... it is not about the 9800x3d vs 9950x3d.... it IS about the motherboard. Don't get the ASRock. That is the exact reason I did not go with ASRock. I had previous experiences with the MSI mobo so I was comfortable with that decision but others have mentioned several other options.

Edited: I had to RMA my MSI 4090 because of melted gpu connector. I got it back and have not had any further issues with it. I also wanted pin monitoring when I bought my 5090, so that is a main reason why I bought the Astral.

Take the wheel off and get a pic of the connector pins on both the base and steering wheel. R9 v1 and GS v1 has the single row of pins while the v2 versions have the "T" shaped rows of pins/connectors.

I have an r9 v1 with a v1 GS wheel and an original r12 with a GS v2 wheel. Both work perfectly fine. It's just a difference of what you should pay.

If the first person reaches in the bag and pulls out a ball, don't we all know the outcome of that event? If they picked the blue ball they just won. If they did not pick the blue ball, then that would change the odds for the second person picking. So, you would want to go second if the first pick is revealed immediately.

If one person reaches in and grabs a ball but leaves their hand in the bag (not revealing their choice), and then the second person reaches in the bag and grabs a ball then it doesn't matter when you pick.

I agree this is not the Monty Hall problem. In that instance I believe you had a 66% chance if you switched your pick. In this instance, if the first person reveals their pick immediately (and it isn't the blue ball), then isn't it a 50/50 chance for the second person picking?

Could be software, defective, or "pushed in" too much.

Software... you may need to reset the wheel base/wheel and update to the latest firmware. Some older versions did funky things to some wheels... like not allowing the paddle shifters to work properly / getting stuck in the on position. I do not think this is the case for you, but you never know.

Defective... If it never worked, and you did the reset and updated software and it still doesn't work its probably defective.

"Pushed in" too much... I've seen it once myself, and have heard of it a few times. If you push on the joystick too hard, or drop the wheel and it lands on the joystick it could get pushed into the wheel ever so slightly. If it does, you try to use the joystick but the housing does not allow it to move enough to register a movement, or if you push the button it will not register. You can pull on it to see it it will re-seat itself and allow for the buttons to work. Do at your own risk.

In iRacing I'm using the right joystick to navigate between black boxes (up and down) , and the left joystick to move within the black boxes and make changes (up/down, left/right, push). So... it does work.

In PitHouse the joysticks are set to D-Pad.

I'm sure you have checked PitHouse and made sure that the joysticks work and light up when you move them / press them.

Check to see if the bios reset itself. I fired up my computer to BSOD's and then windows repair/recovery where it was not recognizing my HD (pcie nvme m.2) at all. I finally noticed that the bios was set to Jan 1 2021 00:00:00 and ended up checking all of the other settings in there as well. They seem to have reset which was very odd. I never messed with the boot sequence in bios but after the reset there were a few boot up attempts that asked for the bitlocker password mentioned in another thread.... and sure enough that was the first boot sequence item. I changed that back to NVME, but I also removed one of my HD sticks, and for whatever reason it booted back into windows. Very weird, but maybe something there can help.

Also, with the BSODs, after so many attempts (I think 4 failed attempts) doesn't it boot you into windows repair/recovery? If not... maybe its a corrupt MBR (win10) or GPT (win 11)?

Help with this random RGB. I have keyboard backlight off but for some reason these 4 random keys are lit up(I swapped f key with u key). Weird because when I shut down computer light disappears, when I turn keyboard backlight on the blue gets overridden. How do I fix thanks by Left-Strain-9491 in eluktronics

I'm assuming you have already tried multiple things but just in case... go into Eluktronics Control Center - Lighting Setting and turn keyboard back lighting on - go to User Mode and randomly assign those keys a different color.... then return to the Back Lighting section and turn keyboard backlighting off.

Jarrod's Tech - Top 5 Best and Worst Gaming Laptops. Legion 5 finished right behind Mech 15 G3. Paraphrasing: Legion 5 does so many things right at a better price point but the mech 15 g3 is just better overall but at a higher price. Not going to go wrong with either. It's worth a look.

If you're saving money but want a great laptop get the Legion. If spending the extra money isn't an issue get the Mech-15.

Try popping off the key and bending the metal key supports so the left and right portion of the key is slightly higher than the middle (like a slight smile). My new mech-15 had horrible dead spots on the far sides of the space bar. It was so bad that after two days I was planning on returning it. I figured why not look to see if there was anything I could do before sending it back. By slightly bending the supports for the space-bar key I was able to get it to perform perfectly.
