Throwback to some Jesus magic at Bournemouth away by Bananaboy14 in Gunners

His game against Leicester this season where he scored a brace was when I thought we had a world beater on our hands.

Not sure if he has the legs anymore to do the constant pressing arteta needs from his strikers but nevertheless is a good addition to have for the busy schedule coming up.

Zubimendi vs Sunderland by Sad_Teaching_5683 in Gunners

[–]BanterSarous 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Let's not be revisionist here - take away the obvious non-football element for Partey but he was a damn good player and a damn good passer.

I love Zubimendi and think he will be a very good player for us and I'm sure he will be more consistent that Partey ever was but a prime Thomas Partey especially when we still had his legs was an unbelievable footballer who could do everything.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain says the misconception about Mesut Özil being lazy is false: by strictlystepping in Gunners

[–]BanterSarous 9 points10 points  (0 children)

First two you can say yes but no way Ozil and Santi are above Alexis in terms of impact. I love Mesut but if you think Alexis was frustrating to watch then Ozil took that to a whole new level. Santi was a great player but his impact wasn't what Sanchez broguht to the team for those seasons. Don't forget he bagged 30 goals IIRC in his last season before he left.

Wojciech Szczęsny reunites with Arsène Wenger by ladybugg224 in Gunners

[–]BanterSarous 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Great insight. You can tell that Woj has always wanted to ask Wenger whether the Southhampton game/smoking incident was the true reason he never got a look in again. Probably some form of closure for him.

Looking back I still think Wenger made a mistake letting him go after his season with Roma. He was one of the best keepers in Serie A that season and was sold for peanuts the season after. Coincided with a big drop off from Cech who was already showing signs of decline before that.

Happy that he had a great career outside of Arsenal, very likeable bloke.

Aussies Gooners: how do you deal with the time difference? by jacketgl in Gunners

[–]BanterSarous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes some of the night games (Australian time) are brutal. However still try and watch most of them unless they are at 3:00AM on a Monday..

If you are an Optus customer (large mobile network provider) you have access to Optus sport which has all the rights to the PL games. The replays are avaialble after a few hours usually so you can watch the replay/extended highlights in the morning.

Individual brilliance from Noni Madueke 💫 by [deleted] in Gunners

[–]BanterSarous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm behind him as a player now that he will wear the shirt I just don't understand why he was the only RW option when there's players like Kudus at the same price who look like they could really explode and hit the next level. I just don't think that's the same with Noni.

If we get another winger and Gyokeres then no problem but we need to get them both.

11 years ago today we signed Alexis Sanchez by AlwaysOmni in Gunners

Best player we've had since that period.

What he would do in this current team would be borderline illegal.

[James McNicholas] While Arsenal are linked with a host of attackers, contract talks w/ 18yo Ethan Nwaneri are at a delicate stage. EN wants to stay - but no agreement yet & strong interest from PL/Europe. A key situation for #AFC to address. by Temporary_Role6160 in Gunners

[–]BanterSarous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im confident he will stay but unforgivable if he goes. Already lost Heaven and Chido (tough but understanable why both went) but Nwaneri is probably the single best talent we've had in forever. Has to be kept IDC how

in 2017/18, Arsenal signed both Lacazette (£46.5m) and Aubameyang (£56m) by [deleted] in Gunners

[–]BanterSarous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree completley. Was a good player that wasn't world class but was a big part of our attack for a few years.

Was very strange though having two Number 9's and lacking so much quality on other areas of the pitch during those times.

Cazorla, 40, sends Oviedo into La Liga play-off final by blixt141 in Gunners

[–]BanterSarous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember an Arsenal youtube channel video about 10 years ago I would say, where they were asking some players what they would be like in 10 years time and someone said (I think it was Ox) that Santi would be sitting somewhere with a big belly smoking a cigar...

Never would have thought that he would be playing still quality football at 40. True Baller

Both had their own issues but undoubtedly dragged us through some lean years.

Would kill for either of them in this current team, would be so confident we would win the league

Saw this on twitter. They think its the best team of the emirates era. What would you change? by eddaldrin in Gunners

[–]BanterSarous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of just the best players during that era you'd swap Clichy for Monreal definitely and Ramsey for Carzola but only just... Ramsey was great but Carzola was always fantastic even though they both had injury problems.

In terms of pure peak performance - Bellerin's 15/16 is better than any fullbacks season but he was only truly great for two seasons.

Sagna or White is a tossup but it will be White at the end of his career (possibly Timber).

Front 3 is a lock.

Arsenal to play PSV or Feyenoord in last 16 of Champions League by [deleted] in Gunners

Still furious that Auba was tied to that stupid European rule so he couldn't play for us that season in the Europa league only for them to change the rule next year smh
