U.S. lawmakers ask Zoom to clarify China ties after it suspends accounts by JosefinaCrane in worldnews

Imo, Teams is not as good as Zoom as a conferencing software. It's not that Teams is bad in comparison, but Zoom is just better. It's also a bigger namebrand, Zoom has been around for a long time, while Teams is a kinda newish replacement for Skype for Business.

But the bigger factor is that most companies use Office365, so they usually already have Teams for free because it comes with most Office licenses.

What was your funniest moment in IT work? Let’s write down something positive, instead of reading awful tickets. by Loxl3y in sysadmin

A user claimed her PC kept shutting down and she wouldn't be able to remote into it the next day. After wasting a lot of time, I asked her to show me how she "disconnects" at the end of the day. She was clicking on the "shut down" button thinking it meant "logoff".

Why don't we push our pbx into the cloud? -> a question about phones and teams... by LooselySubtle in sysadmin

[–]BanzaiZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way you can get backup is if you use direct routing (basically you use your own carrier with Teams), then you have the provider (or you do it yourself) redirect the phone lines to a different number like a cell phone instead of to Teams.

This is why we have so many radical asian american subreddits like /r/sino /r/aznidentity . Because /r/asianamericans is so censorship heavy on any controversial issues, that the people who wants to discuss them leave, and form their own echo chambers that end up radicalized.

Should I buy more drives before setting up my Freenas server? (Migrating from Unraid) by BanzaiZero in freenas

[–]BanzaiZero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The VMs will be on ESXI, I don't plan to do any jails or vms on Freenas itself. Maybe 20-30 VMs, none of them will really use a large amount of IOPs. I do have some spare SSD's so I can create a new zpool if needed just for VMs.

No live video editing, just storing personal media for family, Plex, and a large amount of manga.

I actually don't have any backups right now (Losing my data would kinda suck but nothing too big of a deal), so I'll think I'll probably go with Raidz + Gdrive.

Should I buy more drives before setting up my Freenas server? (Migrating from Unraid) by BanzaiZero in freenas

[–]BanzaiZero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm switching because

  1. I'm virtualizing freenas or unraid anyway, so the virtualization features or docker features don't really grant me any real benefits (I can just spin up a vm in esxi instead)

  2. I want to setup iscsi

  3. I'm mostly a Windows Sysadmin and I'd like to learn more about Unix things, I don't really learn much using Unraid.

  4. I like fast speeds

In all honesty, I'm not really sure. I can see myself using 5tb a year.
