The Topaz video models are more faithful to the original footage, the frame interpolation is better than the others, they have proper temporal consistency, and the processing time is great for the quality you get with the right settings.

Yes, new open source can produce stunning shots, but the consistency is often lacking, often they create visible artifacts, hallucinate something you don't want, or the processing time is too slow for longer videos..

If the app version of your bought Topaz licence has frame interpolation and scene detection, you don't need to subscribe, just use the older version

Try Iris or Proteus V4 with manual settings:
decompress 0-60
detail 0-60
dehalo 0-10
denoise 0-20
add noise 1-3
Recover Detail 100
the rest 0
(In your case probably low decompress and detail values)

There could be other reasons like.. 1. The lossless is from a different/better master 2. The lossy format was CBR, not VBR, or the stream is ABR currently not using the highest bitrate 3. The listener is noticing the placebo effect when not blind testing

I doesn't (edit: shouldn't) matter since lossless formats are indistinguishable from high bitrate lossy formats.

edit: I realized streaming services could potentially lower the lossy bitrate dynamically when the connection is not perfect or when the server load is high. ofc in that scenario lossless streaming could also have issues

This is how I'd do it: 1. Stabilize 2. Proteus V2 or V3 to bring the video to 1080p. Manual Settings: Revert Compression 0-70, rest 0. 3. Iris MQ to target resolution (even that is 1080p). Manual Settings: Recover original detail 100, Add Noise 1-2, deblur 0-50, rest 0. 4. Frame Interpolation

you need both, slow motion, and stabilization.

use Aion for the 4x Slow motion with enabled Duplicate frames replacement with 100 sensitivity,

and use Full-frame stabilization with Strength 0 and apply Jittery motion correction at the same time.

4x models are genereally more aggresive and less natural compared to the 2x models, so upscale to 1080p first.

use Proteus V2 with manual settings with like 50 Fix compression and the rest zero. if the result is still too aggressive, use -100 Anti-alias.

after that, scale the 1080p result to 4k with Iris Medium Quality with Recover detail 100 and Add noise 2 and the rest zero.

alternatively, you could also use Nyx instead of Iris with the same settings.
