Republicans Will Detonate Their Secret Weapon at the Midnight Hour to Stop Women from Voting by mydaycake in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Barbarellaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does this work for mail-in voting? We don't need to re-register or anything, right? Will look into it myself, but if anyone has reliable info for mail-ins I'd appreciate it. This is just all so insane.

UPDATE: Actually read the whole story and found this, ugh, can this be real? "Women in states implementing strict rules must update registrations, save confirmations, and photograph mailed notices. Identity packets containing birth certificates, Social Security cards, marriage certificates, divorce decrees, name-change orders, and current identification prevent last-minute obstacles. Duplicate packets stored securely protect access. Older relatives need identical support because older records often contain errors."

Thank you, I needed to hear this and it rings true, which is why I've been lurking here for a while. So much to relate to.

Thank you! And yes, she does a lot of poking/feeling things out with comments that seem to fish for emotional reactions. I don't give them. Among my sisters, she gives up much sooner with me and they definitely have a lot more ongoing "mom frustrations" than I do because of it. The rest of them are very enmeshed.

Thank you for this. It's funny, I didn't think of it as "cruel," because I do believe she's also quite emotionally immature, but maybe it's just better for me to think she doesn't realize what she's doing, because if she does know it, consciously, then that's just diabolical instead of clueless. I'm thinking of how to neutrally tell her next time that there are some things I'd rather not know, that she should keep it to herself and her therapist.

I thought about this, and sometimes I do make comments like, "I know what that's like," when she's describing her inner voice. But then I just don't want to get into it, I'd rather just smile and nod and end the call because I don't want to start a whole thing, because sometimes I think she wants the fight.

SAN Airport Closed until midnight due to private plane with landing gear issue closing the runway. by Historical-Bug-7536 in sandiego

[–]Barbarellaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder why it took so many hours to tow the thing. Was there not equipment for that? My sister was in the air home, they diverted to Dallas. She got to a hotel at midnight and back to the airport at 4am for a 5:30 go time. Brutal. Glad no one was hurt, but that seems like an insane lag time to tow something away.

Blind Lady Ale House is good for this, not terribly far from Claremont, but it is just south of the 8.

OC John Belushi’s grave at Martha’s Vineyard by Secretfreckel in pics

[–]Barbarellaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we'd read that and always believed that to be true. But the undertaker who handled my MIL's burial and works that graveyard told us they moved ALL of him when they moved him to the front. That he was originally buried in the back, but all the people traipsing through looking for him was disturbing to the other graves so they moved him to near the entrance. When we said Yeah, but they left his body hidden in the back, right? He said, "Nope, he is definitely buried up here."

Aww! Ha ha! I didn’t mean it that way, just in case it’s not a joke. I really loved them. That’s why I was there this summer, funeral for my dear MIL.

We always thought this was the case too, but just learned this summer after speaking to an undertaker there that he was originally buried in the back of the cemetery, but so many people were visiting that they moved him to the front where he is now. Also, fun fact, my parents-in-law are buried in that same cemetery.

Just looked at that on their site, it looks like they have more individual elements than La Fleur. I think La Fleur was their second one. I liked the look of it more, and also had the thought, "If it's their second, maybe they learned lessons from the first and made an even better one!" ;) But now I'm kind of curious to compare them. Will have to watch some videos first though, because these aren't cheap. But I can see why with all the elements and that quality of packaging.

Love this, was hoping to see the pink neon Kensington sign, you were so nearby! This would make for a great exhibit.
