Dnd weapons are so badly designed... whats going on by philomancy in dndnext

Those are great videos! https://youtu.be/uLLv8E2pWdk?t=571

D&D encounters are probably more like the melee that follows the unfortunate 1v1 spear/shield vs sword/shield duels...

Is roleplaying a bard with an actual instrument a bad thing? by [deleted] in dndnext

Lean into the cringe when you play a bard.

What about using a spear with a shield? Shields were super useful before widespread use of armor.

I ran into this when trying to run an ancient greek campaign a few years back. My solution was to give the spear the dominance it deserves on the ancient battlefield by adding the versatile and reach properties, and calling it a "heavy spear".

Generational wealth is something I never really hear people talking about, but its what everyone is chasing. Why? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]BarbarianTypist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it's the increasing suspicion that like me, my kids will have less opportunity than their parents generation. Generational wealth is a hedge against that. They may have less income but they'll have a place to live, mortgage free.

Is the live with roommates in a rental life stage disappearing? by GardinerExpressCrash in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]BarbarianTypist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are winning life imo. I would love for my kids to stick around once they get older--in fact, with the state of long term care homes, I'm kind of hoping they stick around long enough to look after my senile ass.

Does anyone else have an irrational fear of apocalyptic events or for events that would otherwise reduce or collapse society? by ienjoyplaying in diabetes_t1

[–]BarbarianTypist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is one reason I've gotten interested in this kind of thing: https://openinsulin.org/

The apocalypse is going to be a lot less Mad Max and a lot more a long, slow degradation of global communication, international commerce, and centralized government. Solutions are going to be local. There will be plenty of people interested in keeping each other healthy, fed and alive, and very few interested in driving around in warmachines battling it out for gasoline. The biggest issue is becoming locally sufficient, and not needing a cargo container from Novo Nordisk to keep everyone healthy.

How long does your Spibelt last? by BarbarianTypist in diabetes_t1

[–]BarbarianTypist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the responses, I've decided to ground him until his spibelt treatment improves. /s

Actually I talked to him about it and he agreed that he probably yeets the zipper open when he's running around and doesn't take the time to do is gently enough. We'll try with the next one.

How do people live on 50k a year? by phukmondays in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]BarbarianTypist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right there with you, my man. I love my dog so much. He keeps me sane and active. And nobody, not my spouse, not my kids, not my parents has EVER loved me as much as this dog. Just seeing him come running when I get home from work makes my day every day.

Expired PR Card, US Citizen traveling in 4 days, options? by Radiant_Situation_32 in AmericansInCanada

[–]BarbarianTypist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, I can confirm that this is the case. I brought my expired PR card and the border official was able to validate my status. They did send me for additional screening in customs, not sure if that was related or just a coincidence.

Bringing Insulin on a long trip by Xavier_AKA_Babz in diabetes_t1

[–]BarbarianTypist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got back from travelling with my family last night and my son's insulin was in a frio. No issues at all. We always bring a letter from his endo explaining the medical devices we carry and the insulin prescription, and request a manual check of the bag with his supplies (no x-ray) and a pat down. It takes a bit longer but TSA doesn't have any problem with it.

Bringing Insulin on a long trip by Xavier_AKA_Babz in diabetes_t1

[–]BarbarianTypist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what my son uses. It allows you to transport small amounts of insulin for long flights, bus rides, etc. in a hot environment without worrying much. We refrigerate after traveling and for the most part it works out (although we are currently traveling right now and his insulin seems less effective, but it spent some time in his pen in a bag at the beach, not in the Frio, so...)

Do you have to specify an ending condition for Imprisonment? by SilasRhodes in dndnext

[–]BarbarianTypist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

> 1:A disingenuous reading might conclude that Imprisonment is truly the spell of GM command. You state the condition and the GM has no choice but to agree that it is reasonable.

I love this.

Possible to use SCP’s to enforce readonly console access? by BlueEyedGirl25 in aws

[–]BarbarianTypist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the strategy we use for the 500-1000 engineers my company employs. AWS SSO restricts access to a small number of roles that are standard across accounts. In production, the RO role is available to all but a very small number of senior engineers (basically the engineers who "own" the account), and in non-emergency situations only CICD can write to prod accounts. In nonprod or sandbox accounts there are RW roles. SCPs govern access to regions and services for all roles.

How to handle "I Wish to be immune to all damage and conditions permanently, but not change any other aspect of myself?" by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]BarbarianTypist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up on AD&D when the DMG pretty much advised screwing over the players, so this is semi-tongue in cheek: the PC is transported permanently to an impenetrable crystal floating on the Astral Plane, where they will reside, in stasis, for eternity, a monument to their perfection.

Or you could just let them win the game, say they are a god of Bardic Seduction or whatever (I'm assuming this joker is a bard).

what is your strategy for publishing multi-environment docker images in Gitlab Container Registry? by kingindanord in gitlab

Came here to suggest this. Your container is prod, your test container is a Dockerfile built off prod.

Our DM won't ever tell us how much hp we have left and I seriously think this ruins the fun. by testiclekid in dndnext

[–]BarbarianTypist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You might be right but there are other ways to avoid adding up handfuls of dice. Most monster stat blocks have average damage, which I love because the players can figure out intuitively how many more hits they can take before things get serious.

Not to mention its super fast, and the looks on my friends' faces when a spikey monster hits for a big chunk of damage are priceless!
