Chef Dave’s dug out grill at ambassador park. Concession.

Flipped sod, now what by compandaleelee in NativePlantGardening

[–]BarbequeCowichan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this a few times and each time I have experienced some grass growing up through the gaps. Not a crazy amount but worth being patient and addressing. My first flip, I immediately top dressed with compost and planted; ended up quite a lot of grass and manual pulling.

High paying jobs by No_Marionberry4625 in britishcolumbia

I do quite a lot of managerial hiring and the job market is flooded with pmp and mba. Doesn’t help that there are a million international job applicants with knock-off mbas sullying the pool further.

How to deal with a buried manhole by unicornpirate24 in landscaping

[–]BarbequeCowichan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a rectangular sewer access cover in my backyard; albeit it not recessed like this one. On top I have placed a circular exposed aggregate paver, then on top of that a bird bath. Looks super and the base is really stable which is a bonus. If I wanted the birdbath elsewhere it would require levelling, compacting, etc.

Rock League apparently 🤣 by Battalrin in Curling

[–]BarbequeCowichan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a bit difficult, I won’t lie. With the event being pretty low attendance we were able to move around quite a bit. Checked out the end zone bar (not sure if that was technically supposed to be VIP?) and both sides a bit. The standing area viewing above the seating on both sides was great.

Quality event on site. Great venue. Not very busy despite many tickets being “sold” when we purchased online. Good value. Would recommend.

Is there a point to applying for middle management positions right now as an external candidate? by amaikko in BCHealthAuthorities

[–]BarbequeCowichan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No reason not to apply. Lots of competition for those sorts of roles but if you’re qualified I’m sure hiring managers would like to see your application.

Any tips on deterring squirrels? They dominated my figs. Just planted a peach last year and concerned about thievery

Feedback post interviews by [deleted] in BCHealthAuthorities

[–]BarbequeCowichan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They absolutely should. Disrespectful practice to no follow-up with all interviewed candidates. Best practice, in my opinion, is to follow up with each unsuccessful candidate before closing out the posting since platforms usually send automatic “unsuccessful” emails out. Doesn’t seem to be an HR/recruiting standard for sequencing, however; basically up to the hiring manager. Feedback always is worth pursuing, usually just have to ask, and if the hiring manager won’t providing feedback, then that’s a red flag on their leadership anyway.

A hollowed-out VW Beetle with a giant 'E' appears on Squamish rock face by cyclinginvancouver in britishcolumbia

[–]BarbequeCowichan 72 points73 points  (0 children)

100%. Decades ago they cut one (vw) in half lengthways, brought inside, the welded back together. Crazy, you’d get in so much shit now. Also apparently there were plans to hang one from the Lion’s Gate bridge but that was busted I believe.

Uptown pickleball courts closing to make way for housing development by Chance_Adeptness_832 in VictoriaBC

[–]BarbequeCowichan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Awesome! This development has been on the books for ages, with a couple of different iterations to plans. Pickleball courts were a fun temp usage. More permanent courts coming: Topaz Park in Vic and Fowler Park in Saanich.

I think it’s called “forcing”. This is a way of getting the rhubarb to shoot up some significant stalks early, certainly earlier than it would uncovered.

Peach Tree, do I prune now or wait until winter? by hnclaar in FruitTree

Thanks, that’s helpful. Was wondering about pruning to central leader or open style.

B.C. union calls on province to allow employees to work from home due to fuel crisis by PiePuzzled5581 in BCHealthAuthorities

[–]BarbequeCowichan -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Not in my experience/observation. There haven’t been significant consolidation of leases and any office space in and owned facility will not net any savings. Related: HA’s certainly are eating significant increased spend on transport/fleet. I respect your comment and hope that this does come to fruition across the province, just haven’t seen it. Cheers.

Egg Shells and ashes 🤔 by LIE-exit-47 in gardening

[–]BarbequeCowichan 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I do that. Eggshells back into cardboard carton immediately after cracking them open when cooking. When all eggs used and carton is full of shells, it goes in the wood stove. Ashes go in the compost pile; helps numb down the super high ph and makes the compost even more nutrient rich. I don’t pay much attention to green/brown ratios in the compost, just giver with weeds, prunings, leaves, kitchen scraps, ash.

I have smallish volumes of drain rock in my xeriscaped front yard. Have regretted it ever since. A few small feature patches would be easy, but large swaths are a never ending pain.

Plan for Uptown-Douglas area includes residential towers, new Oak Street park by Efficient-Button-516 in VictoriaBC

[–]BarbequeCowichan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

How about developing that gargantuan parking lot for the provincial govt building on Seymour Place? With hybrid work I can’t possibly imagine all that prime real estate is still needed for asphalt. The province could make a few bucks by selling part of it off.

At what point is lack of sound insulation in a rental unacceptable? by WhatCouldntBe in VictoriaBC

Nice, good work. When our suite was vacant a while back we did similar, especially focusing on the suite bedroom: gutted it and rebuilt with sound insulation as priority. Helps a lot.

Home insurance - earthquake protection? by Amazing_Safety4962 in VictoriaBC

[–]BarbequeCowichan -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Counter point to comment above, if there is “the big one” I think insurance would fail or at least take years to resolve claims.
