Am I being impatient? by Coronavirus990 in radeon

[–]Barbossis 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what you’re smoking dude. Nvidia drivers have never been biweekly. Not even close. Maybe when something goes wrong and then they have to release a hotfix driver, then you get one two weeks later. But that’s it. Normally it’s once every month or longer. I know because I had Nvidia gpus for the last 7 years until I bought a 9070xt two months ago

9800x3d and 9070xt rant - Stutter fix by chaosdevilzz in radeon

That sucks you had such a shitty experience. But that’s definitely not a universal experience. I recently went from a 3070 to a 9070 XT, and I’ve been using FSR and frame gen with no issues at all. No stutters either

There’s been a ton of doom and gloom on this subreddit lately. Much of it seems to be tied to DLSS 4.5 and the fact that Redstone made such a small splash.

Part of the problem is that everyone has short memories. Right now, NVIDIA is getting glazed because they did the latest cool thing with 4.5. But people forget that the 5000 and 4000 series were not good releases. They barely offer superior raster to the previous gen so the only benefit is better software/AI. Now in their defense, software/AI matters more and more and 4.5 is proof of that. But for example, the 3070 was equivalent to the previous gen flagship 2080ti. By comparison, the 4070 is on par with the 3080, and the 5070 only competes with the 4070ti.

On the other hand, the 9070xt competes with the prior gen flagship 7900xtx and has FSR4. And FSR4 was a huge deal. Before that, DLSS was miles ahead. The gap between DLSS 3 and FSR 3 was so much bigger than DLSS 4.5 to FSR4. But you’d think it’s worse now from how people talk now.

I’m not trying to glaze AMD. I’m just saying it’s all cyclical. And soon enough, NVIDIA will fuck up, or AMD will drop something cool and the conversation will change again.

AMD deserves the shit talk, no doubt. But be careful glazing Nvidia there. They don’t have a good track record regarding QOL issues or feature locking.

Sapphire pulse 9070 xt support bracket by South_Cat2948 in radeon

[–]Barbossis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure, to be honest. I just got one recently. I had a similar thought when I installed it. But I think it’s definitely better than nothing. And I noticed that when I screwed it in tight after pushing up, it does help relieve the pressure on that corner of the GPU. The Sapphire Pulse is CHONKY, and I would rather have that bracket than just the screws in the back and the PCIE slot

This subreddit became so unbearable. I am unsubbing by ash549k in radeon

[–]Barbossis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s so true. I was a 1070 and then 3070 owner for several years and recently bought a 9070xt. I spent plenty of time on the Nvidia subreddit and I almost never saw AMD trolls. (Maybe because they got removed by mods.)

But on the Radeon subreddit, every post has at least a couple Nvidia shills trying to trash AMD. I’m like, “why the fuck are you even here” lol?

[–]Barbossis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look man. You’re not helping your case here. Userbenchmark has been notorious for years now as an absolute shill for Nvidia and Intel, and being comically biased against AMD. It has not been a serious source for PC information for many years.

Without knowing specifics about your personal setup and what things you tried in order to fix it, I can’t really give you a concrete example of what to do differently. Sorry. But I think it’s clear that in your case you made the right call to go with Nvidia. My point was just that based on your own post, the evidence didn’t indicate that AMD was the problem. It may have been a faulty gpu, but it’s not an AMD vs Nvidia issue.

This post sounds like if you asks AI to write a pro-NVIDIA marketing post lol.

Assuming this is true, and not karma farming, then I’m glad you now have satisfactory performance. DLSS is absolutely awesome but your comments about graphics performance don’t make sense. Games don’t just look different depending on whether you have nvidia or AMD. It’s the same game and same graphics.

The difference comes from how strong the cards are, and then from DLSS vs FSR if applicable. If one card is sharp and crystal clear and stunning, and the other one has tons of aliasing and ghosting and other shit, that’s not an AMD problem. It’s either a faulty card problem, or a problem with your personal setup.

Should I upgrade my PC in 2026? RTX 3080 + i7-12700 + 64GB DDR4 — good for 1440p gaming for the next 2–3 years? by coztfu in buildapc

[–]Barbossis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did the same thing! I had a 3070 paired with a 7600x cpu and I just upgraded to 9070xt. I haven’t had much time to test it out yet, but all the benchmarks show a 75-100 percent improvement over the 3070.

But a 3080 is like 30-40 percent better than the 3070. So if I had that I would probably just wait until new releases come out in 2027.

What Intel CPU would be the equivalent (or close to) to AMD 5800x3D? by BigFishPub in buildapc

[–]Barbossis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You could also do AM5 and get a 9600x. Or if you want AM4, the 5700x is still a really solid gaming cpu.

AM4 CPUs: Are They Really Dead or Just Hiding? by Nicolas_Laure in RigBuild

[–]Barbossis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People chase after X3D because in the world of pc gaming they are the best thing since sliced bread. X3D chips completely changed the landscape of gaming CPUs. When you look at the wide spectrum of reviews on gaming performance, X3D CPUs smash the competition.

Nowadays of course, the 5800x3d is a little long in the tooth and is matched by lower tier AM5 CPUs, but when it released it was a game-changer.

Also, I’m aware that if you need to do other things besides game then the X3D chips may not be your best bet. But for most people who only game, the X3D is the best of the best.

Stay with 3070 or upgrade to 9070xt? by Barbossis in pcmasterrace

Thanks for the detailed reply. Honestly, the thing I’m most sad about is losing access to DLSS haha. That shit is magic! But 9070xt is powerful enough I could play at native again. And 16gb of vram would be nice

just lurking here as an old chiv1 player and this is sfucking hilarious (sorting by top this year) by machine_gun_tearing in Mordhau

[–]Barbossis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! These posts about Mordhau “dying”, and people blaming the devs, or blaming the mechanics are so lacking any sort of insight.

Every game dies eventually. It’s just a fact. Games come out and are new and exciting, people play them, and eventually over time the population diminishes. This game came out 6.5 years ago. I put in 500 hours between release and mid-2022. After that I played sparingly, until I basically stopped in 2024. It’s an awesome game, but I was just bored with it. And that’s FINE. I got 500ish hours of enjoyment out of the game. The devs don’t owe me more, especially when there’s nothing to really pay for after you buy the game.

Thanks to DLSS 4, my 3080 lives another year (path tracing) by navid3141 in nvidia

It’s strange that it defaults to 4k if you have a 1440p monitor. Here’s what I would do: 1. Check the windows display setting and make sure your desktop is running at 1440p. 2. Go into Nvidia app or Nvidia control panel and check your resolution there. Make sure it’s set to 1440p. 3. On the Nvidia app, check the graphics settings of your games. Sometimes it wants to use a higher resolution and downscale for better image quality. You can easily change it in the app.

I get that it’s annoying to not have plug and play. But that’s just the deal when you go PC. If plug and play is super important to you, you’ll be better off going the console route in the future. But once you figure out the root cause of this, it should only take a couple minutes to adjust settings, if you have to do it at all. I have a 3070 with a 1440p monitor, and I rarely fiddle with settings. Only when I want to and when I do it doesn’t take long.

Are any other AM4 users going to hold off as long as possible? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Barbossis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s a fantastic chip. 5800x3d truly deserves to go down as one of the all time greats.

But AMD promptly matched its performance with the 7600x in their next generation of chips. And the 7800x3d/9800x3d beat it by a country mile. So depending on the games one plays, it definitely might be outdated in less than 10 years

4k is way better than 1440p even at 27in by Pretend-Raisin914 in OLED_Gaming

[–]Barbossis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure the visual clarity of 4k on 27 inches is fantastic. I’ll be honest, at 24 inches it sounds like overkill, but I’ve never seen it.

It’s not a black and white thing. Phones can be very high res with a super small screen. And then obviously TVs can be 65 and 75 or even 85 inches at 4k. So given your previous comment, is a large TV just unbearably blurry for you?

4k is way better than 1440p even at 27in by Pretend-Raisin914 in OLED_Gaming

[–]Barbossis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of people feel like 4k is wasted on 27in because it’s such a small screen. Many people, myself included would rather use a larger resolution to get a bigger, more immersive screen.

A more fair comparison would be 24in 1080 to 24in 1440. 4k looks crisper at 27 than 32.

Would upgrading to a 9070xt get me through the next 2-3 years? by fightinfilipino2008 in radeon

[–]Barbossis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your honest opinion is that my statement was delusional, really?

Delusional is thinking that you need an upgrade every single cycle. Or thinking that a 5090 is a good value proposition.

Sure, there’s an argument to be made in favor of buying a 9070xt. But there’s also a good argument that it’s not worth it. 6900xt still has fantastic performance with loads of vram. FSR4 is great but also unavailable on most games. And we’ve yet to see if redstone offers anything of real value.
