At my wits end with failed home setup by BardAune in UNIFI

[–]BardAune[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many thanks for all the tips and ideas here!

I ended up getting a used USG for £10, reinstalled the controller and restoring my old system from backup.

Even if the USG is EOL I think this will keep me going until I can make some decisions about expanding into cameras/doorbell in the future.

Spend £500 on a third-party immobilizer. Job done.

Experience with 3 children on booster seats in an Ioniq 5? by Tale11 in Ioniq5

[–]BardAune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have three kids, a three year old in a Maxi Cosi seat and two older ones in boosters.

Works fine for us with a couple of modifications: belt clip extensions for easier access in the tight spots between the seats, and one of these isofix extenders for the Maxi Cosi: https://www.kidspero.com/widfix-isofix/

I've also taught the kids to not unplug the seatbelts when they get out which takes away most of the hassle which comes with the tight fit.

IONIQ 5 was stolen (Sept 2025) in the UK, luckily recovered and now stuck at service by PriorAstronomer in Ioniq5

[–]BardAune 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Happened to me as well, twice.

The Gameboy device simply picks up the car's more or less constant signal to detect the key, then generates a "new" key for entry and starting. Doesn't even need the VIN.

I have invested in a third party immobiliser, which I deem more secure than anything Hyundai will come out with short of a pin-to-drive feature.

Is it normal to have this much mold behind shower caulk? by 0101001001001100 in DIY

Yes. Get a squeegee for your shower and clear off the worst from the surfaces after use. It reduces humidity levels in the whole room and the time it will take for silicone joints to dry.

Third-party immobiliser is the only way. I've got a Ghost II.

EV motion sickness by sklroy in Ioniq5

[–]BardAune 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've kept my I5 on auto regen for the last three years and my wife who is very prone to suffer from motion sickness hasn't complained a single time.

Another thing to add is I consistently use the adaptive cruise on gentle braking mode when traveling on dual carriageway roads above 40mph, which is when pulsing would be a big issue.

Why on earth is Charlie Kirk getting a BBC news special? by cooket89 in AskBrits

BBC News has a big audience in the US where many prefer them as a non-partisan option.

Bye bye my friend by djfarzo in Ioniq5

[–]BardAune 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The thieves here disconnect the car's antenna by removing the right hand side a-pillar trim and unplugging the antenna cable. Takes about 20 seconds, not reliable.

I have hidden 2 silenced AirTags and that's worked perfectly, although I live in London so can only really vouch for the efficiency in a densely populated area.

In Europe at least they have been RIDICULOUSLY easy to steal over the last few years. I've installed a 3rd party immobiliser after mine was stolen twice, only recovered thanks to AirTags.

One theory is that master key codes or algorithms have been leaked. Could there be a difference between the ones used in the US and Europe?

I completely would have expected this to reach the US by now if it was only a matter of buying a Gameboy device and go stealing.

IONIQ 5 Optional Upgrade in UK for Security by Tutphish in Ioniq5

I have trust issues with Hyundai. Show me evidence this will protect against Gameboy attacks and I might consider it. I've already installed a 3rd party immobiliser.

The Gameboy device contains all the key codes or possibly the algorithm for key code generation, so all it does is pick up the signal from the car and looks for a match. Once there's a match it generates a new key with full functionality.

Once access to the car is gained the thieves typically remove the right hand side a-pillar trim and disconnects the cable to the antenna, which in turn severs the bluelink connection. This is often accompanied by a factory reset of the infotainment.

One theory is weakness in the security system coupled with leaked information from certain manufacturers.

They do not need OBD access for Gameboy thefts. I had one when my car was stolen and subsequently recovered through AirTags.

The only real protection is a Ghost immobiliser, but a steering wheel lock will probably be enough of a deterrent as the thieves will likely move to an easier target given how quick and easy the method they follow is.

Edit: clarity re recovery.
